Stringing newbie question

Hello Everyone,

I have delved into the world of tennis racquet stringing over a year ago, when I purchased a Gamma Progression 200 (2 pt mounting, flying clamps, drop weight). Since then I've also purchased some stringway flying clamps to replace those plastic ones. Recently I've seen some electronic stringing machines and have been tempted to make the upgrade.

I know it might sound sacrilegious to some, but I was thinking of getting a Wise tensioner or that Pros Pro MT 300 to replace the drop weight tensioner. Is it worth pulling the trigger, or should I just get a brand new machine instead?

Thanks all for your help!

In a way, it doesn't make alot of sense, BUT you could always keep your eye out for a nicer used
crank/LO machine to transfer the Wise to when you come upon one down the road.

Might not be a bad approach if you're set on such.

You can always sell the DW machine to another up and coming stringer as an intro machine.

Sell the machine you have and upgrade to a crank machine or electronic pull with fixed clamps. I started with a used 6 point drop weight with floating clamps and upgraded to a 6 point crank with fixed clamps.

As someone who also considered doing this and still undecided, I'll just leave this here: I didn't want to get a crank/LO machine with fixed clamps is because I have very limited storage space and a basic 2pt mount floating clamp machine is the only stringing machine that fits the space I have. Maybe this is why the OP doesn't want to upgrade to a 6pt mount fixed clamp machine either. I still cannot decide if the cost of wise tension head is worth the increased speed I might get from it.

I would not replace the drop weight tensioner or machine unless you’re stringing several rackets a week. Several is more than 2 but fewer than many.

Whether to upgrade or how to upgrade is a .. something like deciding on which journey you wish to make. Most already know that unless you are stringing more than 1 racket a day, DW is fine. But do you know if you will ever be string more in the future? There is also incremental upgrade vs Final step upgrade. Many people do multi-steps and wish they just jump to the final step which saved the trouble of the intermediate steps along with the cost. But the lesson of the journey.. is priceless.
Right now I am agonizing over whether to go from Momo force wheel to G29 or directly up to Fanatech pedal+ wheel.
And sometmes we have hobbies to collect toys, like wood worker collect power tools.

Most don't care and just read the forum. Get a StringMeter. The cost is low and what you learn about your string job/stringing practice is invaluable.
