Strings for a 18x16 racket??

Been tryng to find a set up for my Wilson PS97LS. Unfortunatley no matter what I have tried does not offer the beldn of feel/durability I am after. I have tried hybrids with NG/Poly, Multiu/Poly, full mutli (multi: Xone Biphase, Poly: Lux Alu,). My last attempt is to string this with Prionce Syn Gut DF 15L @ 23/25kg (46/50lbs) with a dt of 39. Played last night and whilst I cannot say I was thrilled, it was underpower but Toooo much stirng movememnt from the mains.

Guys have you found any setup that can survive for a month or so?
does it make sense to try Ashway crossfire or any other kevlar/zx setup?

Any ideas would be much appreciated

18x16 is made for full poly. Other strings can work in it, but I felt it only really shined with poly. I don't think it particularly matters which poly, but I had good experiences with Wilson Revolve and ALU Power as full beds in the Six.One 95S.

Im a kevlar zx convert in my blade 98s 18 x 16 while I dont break dtrings regularly poly seems to loose performance and notches after 5 to 10 hours but the kevlar and zx I can use for 4 months and its still great. In my 98s I think 60/35 plays like ploy at 50 and 60/40 plays like poly at 60. Make sure you prestretch the zx though and 1 final tip the zx doesnt wear so I wrap the end of the crosses about 8x around the frame then tie it off that way you can unthread it and Restring the crosses at a different tension if you want.

Thanks. I am particularly interested if you can elaborate a bith further at your convenience as to how it plays...do the strings move too much? Does it make sense to string at 50/35? How is the power vs control?

The setup felt quite unique to me the first time I used it it has incredible control with the crosses at 40lb. Spin was good but not mind blowing maybe on a par with some of the better polys Ive used. The mains have good snapback always returning to position and the kevlar mains grip the ball well for great slices. So its the combination of control and longevity that wins over for me.

Much appreciated for the feedback. Last question:

Considering there is no Ashaway strings where I live and due to capital controls internet orders are a pain, what alternatives to Ashaway Monogut ZX and Kevlar would you suggest (other brands)? Brands typically found here are all the big names....

Forten kevlars are softer than ashway and imho a pale substitute. Prince problend kevlar is stiffer but probably the best you can find. Ditch the syngut crosses.

No real sub for zx. I like a dt of 56 and you just cant get that with zx. So in its absence you might want to try a poly cross. I love mosquito bite as a cross

Gamma has sone kevlar that may be good

I agree with many of the posters here that kev/zx is a great option for what you are looking for

I will try to get my hands on the Ashaway as I understand this is the only ZX that makes sense.
If you have the choice don't buy the hybrid package. Instead buy the 1/2 set of regular Ashaway kevlar and the full
package of ZX. If you are careful you can do 3 rackets with one pack of ZX and also the regular kevlar is better than the one in the hybrid pack.

It looks like you've been putting the muti in the mains. Try some hybrids with poly mains and a 16ga syn gut in the crosses at tensions around 54-58.

This will last at least 2-3 times as long as multi mains with decent feel and control.

My friend uses Volkl Cyclone and Dunlop Black Widow in his Blade 98S, but he doesn't hit the ball as hard, just with a heck of a lot of topspin.
On the other hand, another one of my friends with his Six.One 95S used Luxilon 4G, but moved on to other polys. Good ones to look at include Wilson Revolve as kindly mentioned by others above, Yonex Poly Tour Pro, Luxilon ALU Power, and Prince Tour XC.

I just put a full set of Isospeed Baseline 1.25mm into a Blade 98S for a pal at 55 lbs. This is the newest black and green blade with an 18x16 pattern. He's played it once and said it's great, but I'm waiting to see how this gauge holds up over the next week or two. This guy is a strong player, but not ripping on the ball like a college killer who would probably need at least the 1.30mm option in that frame.

Thank you all for the feedback. Managed to order some Crossfire packs so should be here in a couple of days. Until then I decided to try out a full bed of Prince Syn Gut at 1.38 (46/50lbs). Whilst I cannot complain about the feel and there is as much control as I want, I must admit that there is absolutely no snap back. Once a rally of 10 shots is finished I feel like I have to straighten the entire bed.

Yes, this is what will happen in a Spin Effect racket with anything other than poly. Having fewer cross strings encourages main string movement. Only poly snaps back into place after each shot.
