Strings for Auxetic Radical MP

KungfuTennis

Semi-Pro
Curious as to others' preferences for strings in this racket. Really like the Aux Radical MP weighted up and have tried lots of strings. I've settled on thin shaped poly at 48-50lbs.

Strings I've tried (that I remember):
Tecnifibre Razor Code 18 (1.2) - 48lbs - Liked it but not a lot of bite, a little brassy
Solinco Hyper-G 18 (1.15) - 48lbs - Really liked this one but broke a bit too quickly for me
Solinco Tour Bite 16L (1.25) - 48lbs - One of the worst experiences I've ever had. Terrible "vibratey" feel, lost tension quickly, springy and weird feeling.
Yonex PolyTour Rev (1.2) - 48lbs - Disliked this string, very slippery but no grab at all, hard to get spin ironically
Yonex PolyTour Rev (1.25) - 48lbs - Feels similar to the 1.2, a little bit brassier, still difficult to grab the ball
No-name Syn Gut/Wilson Revolve - 56/52lbs - Had great feel, lots of controlled power, decent spin as well. Broke too quickly (probably due to poor quality of mains)
No-name Syn Gut/Dunlop Explosive Tour - 56/52lbs - Liked it a little less than revolve in the crosses, more power but less control and less slippery for the mains so less spin
Dunlop Explosive Spin - 48lbs - Felt a bit stiff for my liking, decent spin and control but didn't like the feel
TAAN 5600 (1.15) - 48lbs 46lbs 50lbs 52lbs - This string is smooth, round, and dirt dirt cheap. Works decently until it loses tension.
TAAN 8600 (1.2) - 48/50lbs - My current string of choice, its a cheapo Chinese shaped poly but is very cheap and I can string it once a week if I want. Works very well for me.

For fun:
TAAN 8600 (1.2) - 25lbs - Surprisingly decent, insane pocketing and spring but not too hard to control. Actually liked it quite a bit, but was a little tougher against 5.0+ harder hitters.

I am currently using the same frame with Yonex PolyTour Pro, and I love it. I've done 18 gauge and 16L gauge and have strung it between 48-54 pounds. Currently, main set up is 16L gauge at 54 pounds and it's been amazing for my game. I pretty much just bash balls and the strings do a great job holding consistency and spin and I love the set up; however, I've strung it with a few other strings previously as well such as hyper G/Tour Bite/Head Lynx Tour/Adrenaline Rough/PolyTour Drive and a few others, but the weird plastic-y feeling I get from PolyTour Pro and my performance with it have kept me stuck on this set up for the past few months. I've given up on string color preferences, I love the racket and play my best with it, but the bright orange has me given up on racket aesthetics lol

But according to the ones you've tried, if you love HyperG at 18, you might want to consider just using HyperG at a bigger gauge to fix the only knock you have for it (durability).

Best string in this racquet, made for it actually, is Lynx tour orange 1.25. Seriously, no brainer! Unless you have arm issues of course.

Ah I forgot to write about this string. Tried it twice since Head sent me Lynx Tour Orange along with my Radicals. Almost gave up on the racket because of how much I hated it. Switched to any other string and instantly got better pocketing and spin and power and control. :(

Ah okay. Plays well at lower tensions - what was the tension? Anyways personal preference matters a lot of course - tenncomm guy Beckett did a video where he loved it with Grapplesnake Alpha - another one to try. Also regular Lynx is softer than Lynx tour and others like that string in this racquet.

I strung it at 48. I'll check out Grapplesnake, thanks!

Hi, I’m using a 2021 Radical MP. I was using Lynx tour (1.25)/Lynx touch (1.25) at 50lbs. It has good power but too stiff. So I switched to Confidential (1.20)/Ghost Wire (1.22) at 46lbs hoping to get softer feel and even more power by using thinner gauge and lower tension. I choose Confidential as I can’t find Lynx tour in 1.20 and I heard Confidential and Lynx tour are quite similar.

However, this setup, while being comfortable, is super underpowered. I thought going down in gauge and tension will lead to more power and spin?

This racket is really finicky with strings and tension, I haven't had good luck with poly hybrids in this frame

I think you might be stringing a bit on the high side for a Radical. I'd also bump the gauge up to 1.20-ish, for added durability and control. That said, I would tried the following shaped polys and tensions:

- Gamma Jet 1.22 @ 46
- Grapplesnake Alpha 1.23 @ 46
- Grapplesnake Tour Sniper 1.25 @ 43
- MSV Focus Hex 1.18 @ 46 or 1.23 @ 44
- Solinco Revolution 1.20 @ 43
- Tru Pro Atomos 1.20 @ 46 (needs one session to break in)
- Tru Pro DuraFluxx 1.20 @ 44

Nice to see someone going lower and having good results. I'll definitely try 1.20/1.25 strings at <45lbs and see how it goes. Hard to get Gamma, Grapplesnake, or Tru Pro strings in China, but I'll try some Solinco and MSV strings at that tension. I also have ReString Zero on the way which I'll probably string at 44

Well it's mostly my client(s) more so than me. Latest Radicals I typically see are a pair of G360 MP's from a hitting buddy, 3.75-4.0-ish. He's settled on YTEX Square-X 1.25 / IsoSpeed Cream 1.28 at 44/42 lockout, so ~41/39 eCP, and loves the blend of pocketing, control, spin and power. Plus, as cringy as this would first seem, he can usually get 50-60 hours out of it before Cream crosses pancake to the point of snapping, and no worries on arm issues because Cream being 50% rubber means the bed never fully plasticizes. Not everyone's cup of tea for a string, but my god is it genius for those who like that feel.

Any thoughts on a Ghostwire/BK or Firewire Boost for the Radical MP Auxetic?

My 2 cents as a head radical pro user -- I tried both 2021 and 2023 versions with Lynx Tour. The control on groundstrokes is fantastic, I couldn't hit out. However, it's extremely underpowered even at mid 40s tension. Ultimately gave up on this string because of the lack of power
