Stupidity of skipping a slam exposed

All the know-it-alls thought it was such a bright idea that Federer skipped the entire clay season including Roland Garros, and ridiculed those who thought otherwise. Well, those ridiculed knew all along that playing only 3 slams puts Federer at a disadvantage when his main slam-count rival is playing all four. Nadal didn't follow Federer's stupid lead, and is now only 2 matches away from 18. We Federer fans now have to spend the next several days on pins and needles, hoping and praying that Nole or Isner (won't even name that other player) saves the day. Ugh.

Lol. I think he made the right decision. The bottom line’s that fed should have found a way to survive this match and he didn’t. It’s another mind boggling loss.

Um. You think a tired Fed, with his confidence in ruins after several Nadal claycourt final canings, would have done a better job today?
Interesting.

Fed is an amazing player even at this age ı still dont understand why he skips RG.I mean it isnt like he is hopeless on clay like SAMPRAS and you never know in tennis.I can understand the decision of playing fewer tournaments on CLAY but to skip a MAJOR sorry this not nice for legend like him. Rafa only play Wimbledon this year on grass and ı dont understand why Fed didnt do the same for RG.

I get your point, but considering how worse Fed's baseline game is getting, how do you expect him to perform well in slow clay court tournaments ?

I am so sick of hearing about fed and his baseline game. This match was a very close match. Fed had more total points won with 195 compared to amderson’s 190. This was about Federer not executing when it matters the most. All he had to do was get the match to a tiebreaker in the 3rd set or 4th set and he couldn’t do that.

I dont think skipping clay season is bad. To me his unability to win that match points that killed him.
This situations happened many times this year. It's bad for someone like him.

There was something bothering him already in the 4th round. I'm not sure what, maybe it's just age. Have to listen to his press conference.

It's not only about today's baseline game.
You can see his baseline game being worse in other matches too, like the Halle final match against Coric for example.
I am absolutely sure that his baseline game is really not the same and it can be exploited by players who prefer the longer rallies.

Lmao more like stupidity of your thinking. We get you are obsessed with fed playing clay but guess what had he played he would have lost snd most likely due to grueling season would have bounced out even earlier atWimbledon. Your reasoning makes zero sense and proves you are more selfish than anything. Also lmao at proof...you have two examples, skipped last year and he won. He didnt win this year hardly call it proof

Today's loss has no relevance to the clay season. There's absolutely zero evidence to suggest that playing the clay season would have somehow benefited him in the "Slam Race".
People try to explore all different things to explain any loss. Might as well say Fed would've won if he signed with some local brand instead of Uniqlo.

Not really, he can't grind it out on clay anymore, simple as that. Not sure he'd be even able to play Wimbledon if he went all out on clay.

It's not a bad decision, it's a neccesarry one for him to continue playing.
He said that earlier he has no regrets and said even if it doesnt work out for Wimbledon it puts him in fighting position for his next priority at uso

As much as I admire Fed he shows his age in these five setters. He had his chances but could not convert. It may be age or lack of play not making him match tough but I think the other guys are getting better and he is slipping. Kevin did not seem intimidated today like most of his opponents. It would be good for tennis to have a changing of the guard, no Serena, Nadal, Nole, or Fed at the top. It is sad that these young players cannot seem to break through.

Even as a Fed fan, you know he lucked out at Aussie Open. He showed nerves and vulnerability when he lost to Coric at IW and Delpo in Miami.
He had those same nerves late today.
Yet, at age 37-ish, losing 13-11 to Anderson who almost beat prime Djokovic at Wimbledon a few years ago is not all due to fewer matches.
Anderson made some unbelievable kamekazi shots late and is a USO finalist. It is not like he lost to Seppi or Stakovsky.

He has won rallies as well. Like I said it came down to not playing the important points well. It was 5-5 in then 3rd set. All he needed was to hold his serve there and give himelf a shot in the tiebreaker.

Read and listen to Roger's pressers and interviews. His body can't handle the rigors of clay tennis at 35/36 or soon to be 37. Even had he played the clay season he was not defeating Nadal at RG and you know it. Everyone knows it. He couldn't beat Rafa in his peak at the FO and he sure can't be doing it at 36. He said in his opening presser at Wimbledon again that skipping the clay season was "a good decision" and "the only decision I can make at this point. I have to prioritize my body, my health and spending time with my family."

He knows best, not us. Oh-- and he also added, "it is a way to prolong my career."

You are reading way too much on to it. Anderson was already break up in 2n set and then after that point Fed still break him still win the set and still put him self in match point in 3 rd.Not to win in 3 easy sets makes him angry. He has has an age problem nearly 37 this should be a routine win for him. I still believe he would have won in CENTRE COURT. No1 court is way too fast and it benefits Anderson this time around.Anderson nearly beat Djoko in 2015 in no 1 court.

Again, I am not talking only about today's match, you have to look at some of his other matches where he played against players who prefer longer rallies.

just becasuse you are obssessed with fed playing clay/RG doesn't mean you keep making stupid posts/threads like these and expect not to be contradicted/ridiculed.

fed had no shot of winning RG and he simply would've tired himself out on clay/risked injury.

Yeah, because Federer was really beating Nadal at RG this year...

Have you already forgotten 2017? Not only that, but skipping clay is pretty clearly a preventative measure for his health regardless of results. Hindsight always brings out these kinds of 'I told you so's' and it's f%cking exasperting.

Basically comes down to weak BP mentality. Just hit a flat winner god damn it. Sure it will miss sometimes, but you're Roger Federer, it's bound go in more often than not.

This is ridiculous !! Fed may have lost in 4 sets to Anderson or 6-4 in the 5th on center court too. Now it is the courts fault on his favorite surface.
They cut and water all the grass the same. Stop being a die-hard IF THIS excuse person. I thought Nike was the best excuse so far.

Wouldnt have made the slight of difference other than for YE#1. Fed clearly stated that he is not gunning for that as well. End of story.

Of course we haven't seen it (and never with the bigger racquet), but I think Federer's declined clay game is still tops in this current field, and RG was its weakest ever. IMO there's no question Roger could have made the final, and could have beaten hampered Nadal. But the opportunity was lost.

Many Fed fans said it's good he skipped clay because he had no chance in hell of winning RG, as shown by his poor recent results (QF, 4R, QF). How many of those fans are now wishing Nadal (2R, 1R, 4R, 2R, 4R) had the same attitude and skipped Wimbledon.
