Suarez-Navarro has the best looking backhand across WTA and ATP

Has anyone watched this backhand in action? It is completely mesmerizing to watch, imo. There is so much forearm supination going on in that shot - the racket makes a complete windshield wiper path almost every time she hits it.

Even the guys with the most free forearms on the backhand on the ATP (like Gasquet and Almagro) hit a windshield wiper backhand like that on about 30% of their shots.

Do you reckon as backhand as loopy and fluid-looking as that (transposed on a taller, stronger man as opposed to a woman) would be viable on the ATP? There is no-one that can hit with a good degree of topspin on the WTA other than Sam Stosur, she doesn't ever face the female equivalent of a Nadal. But, then again, a backhand as extreme and loopy is actually made for clay courts and high balls more than facing the flat-hitting players of the WTA, so Suarez-Navarro is doing well.

Looked at slow-mo of her backhand. Comes down to personal preference I guess. My personal opinion is that nothing comes close to being as aesthetically pleasing as Gasquet's backhand. For me, his high backswing, footwork and follow-through is way more enticing and pleasurable to watch. Might not be the best in terms of effectiveness (Stan wins there) but it sure is fun to watch.

That is the problem with the 1 hander. Elegant, but ineffective.

*sigh* - you're kidding right? Just because it's a dying breed does not mean OHBH is ineffective. It has way more to do with grooming young players and coaching.

do you know how she takes the ball on the rise so well... I saw her ripping her backhand on the rise crosscourt really hard. not sure how she times the ball so well

Nauseating. You have started this same thread before. She has that claycourt mug one hander. You can see lots of those style of backhands at those mickey mouse events in south america.

Her backhand does resemble Stan the Man's. Very effective.

Disagree with you there, it looks nothing like Wawrinka's. The guy whose backhand looks a little like Wawrinka's is Thiem's. They both have that torso rotation, but Thiem has a firmer wrist/forearm through contact and Wawrinka rolls over more.

I think Suarez Navarro's looks like L. Mayer's with a more exaggerated finish.

That's the thing with one-handers - so much variety in strokes. 2hbh's are all carbon copies of one another.

And to the guy who said S.N.'s backhand is inconsistent - lol. Have you actually watched her play?

LOL. Okay. Well, I do like her backhand. Maybe it resembles Stan's because there are so few players who hit a ohbh. :D

That's because suresh is neither elegant nor is he effective. And he can't hit a 1handed backhand to save his life.

Come back to me when she can windshield wiper her way to 103mph like Gasquet, and I will genuinely be impressed.

It's not rational to expect the same physiological traits among male and female athletes. It's like ignoring softball pitchers because they don't throw heat like Aroldis Chapman, or Marion Jones is irrelevant because Usain Bolt is faster.

She's got a phenominally incredible OHB for the female game. In fact, not only is it great, there are very few WTA players that can even do it.

Well, then it's rational for me to be unimpressed.
