My electronic measuring system is officially dead on my gamma stringing machine, anyone can recommend any simple measuring tools to measure string length? Fishing experts maybe? I find even 20cm of string wastage per string job irritating.
Yeah, to be serious that's the method I use as well. Especially easy since I only string for myself. So I know exactly how many racquet lengths for my mains and crosses without wasting any string from my reels.
Yeah, that is the normal way to do it, but can be prone to the occasional miscount when lubing the stringer with a few IPA's. Fortunately, I have a workbench adjacent to my machine that is exactly 5' long (with marks at shorter increments) to reduce the chance of operator error.
Actually I use sets most often and more often than not I string two piece. So I never have to measure. I wrap the set around the handle and pull an end through the lower side support. When I get about half way through I pull the other half off the handle and put the two ends together and pull to center. Clip the string about 6" from center and use the long piece for the mains.
