Suggest a Multi

I'm looking for more suggestions on some multis to try as a main on my wet weather sticks (I'll likely be using gut mains and poly crosses on my normal sticks).

Right now, I'm using Babolat Xcel mains at 62# and Luxilon Big Banger Alu crosses at 58#. I'm a hard hitter and play more doubles than singles. I like how Xcel bites the ball, and it's a great feeling string but I might want something a bit more crisp.

Tension maintenance is more important than durability - an the pattern is dense enough that I won't likely be popping a lot of strings. I only use 17g string (due to the tight pattern).

I use all VS gut, and use it in all weather.Strings have gotten wet enough times and still held up fine.Maybe they would have lasted longer if not used in wet weather, but the strings lasted long enough for me.Too many people overstate gut and rain, and it really is not that big of an issue.
Maybe it is different with hybrid users like yourself, where the other string may effect the wet gut,but with my personel experiences, I found that all gut still holds up well even if it gets wet.I would dry off the strings after hitting with a towel,and then sprinkle baby powder in the racquet cover.I used to go your route and have a wet weather racquet, but found that nothing hit like the gut I am use to.

There's another Babolat multi just out called Addiction that should be just what you are looking for.

Good to hear - I'm going to definitely give that a try - I am really digging the XCel. Easy to string, fantastic bite. That + crisper sounds perfect.

Though the definition of "crisp" is somewhat ambiguous in here--there have been threads on it--until now it hadn't typically been assumed to mean more powerful. In fact, insofar as it has had something to do with power, "crisp" has if anything been related to having less in order to target well. IOW, it has to do with the well-hit, well-placed ball too; it implies control, somehow. To each his own definition, again. Probably in future we should require examples first. Xcel Power is a fine string, though, too.

I have tried both string and I really liked the Xcel Power over Premium, I don't know how to explain it as Valjean said, It's hard to find the exact word without misinterpretation. I think more pop was what I felt from the string. Like it was easier to hit with pace compared with premium. Although I wouldn't think it had alot of bite, but I haven't tried multi mains and poly crosses so I wouldn't have any to compare against.

For me crisp is a definition of feel: crisp vs. mushy. TF multifeel has more dampened, soft and mushy feel, XCel Power on the other hand, feels a bit stiffer, more powerful and crisper. Hope this helps.

If you want something crisp, I don't think you want gut. Did you ever think about a full bed of a soft poly- there are a ton out there, BA, Bluegear, some of the sppp lineup, etc.

Based on some very positive comments by Jo11yroger and others, I tried Laserfibre Supernatural Pro Stock (17/1.25) recently and wow, it is the closest to nat gut I've ever come across in a synthetic in terms of feel, pop, pocketing and spin potential.

I strung it full, not in a hybrid.

I've tried most multis out there, and I like Klip Excellerator the best. I get ease of power from it similar to the Babolat, NXT, and TF strings, but the control is better I think. Better ball bite and not as mushy as the others.

Almost forgot; Gamma Professional is a good one too, but it's too pricey for my budget.

I came to gut mains from using polys - I used to use full BA, then used Kirschbaum PL I and PL II crossed with syn gut. To me, gut at high tension with a poly cross is, for lack of a better way to put it, the mutt's nuts.

i love the feel of the x1s and how much comfort it gives me.
