Just as the title states. I am new to the tennis shoe world as I have not played since Agassi had a shoe deal with Nike. There were a lot more 3/4 top tennis shoes back then. I have had surgeory on my ankle so I am looking for something with a decent amount of protection from rolling my ankles. It seems that all tennis shoes are low top these days.

Do these low top tennis shoes hold up well against rolling ankles? any shoe recommendations for people with wide feet?

I hear Kswiss is good for wide feet. I just picked up some asics resolution 2s but they feel tight and i dont know if they have good ankle support.

For your ankle problem:

Currently I'm using:

These were my previous ones:

I miss the Rollbar® for motion-control and ABZORB® in the front, but I like the air cushioning system more than the ABZORB® in the heel, DragOn X at toe-tip for durability, tighter fit and style of the Nike more. The lack of front cushioning and motion control for pronation is resolved by buying better insoles.

Example:

I can't comment on Kswiss, but I won't buy an athletic shoe unless it is specifically made for wide feet. The Kswiss's are all made for D width even though people (including TW) recommend them for wide feet.

kswiss defier RS. go with abrace for the ankle -- a shoe guy once told me no matter the shoe height, a shoe won't offer enough support. i roll my ankles all the time playing bball with hi tops. go low with a brace.

I had a similar issue (seemed to roll my ankle with any non-mid cut shoe).

I went with the BV's they have excellent support, Ive yet to have a problem, they seem impossible to tip over. (for me anyway, Im 6'0" and weigh around 190lbs)

Not sure about width. They do seem wider then any Nike's that Ive tryed or the Wilson's I used to use though, it depends on how wide you are talking about. If you can go to a tennis store and try them on, that's definately a plus.

If you have an Adida's Outlet store near you they sometimes have them, and you can get a great deal on them since they sell the older color lines there.
(I bought two pairs for $120)

thanks for all the great reply's. it looks more and more like a brace is going to be my best bet. i have several, but I have never tried them in a low top. We have an outlet nearby with Nike, adidas, and reebok. I will definitely go look for some shoes and try the fit out with braces on. thanks guys

I have the new balance 1003 and they've been pretty good. Durable but not as durable as the barricades... but what its? Plus is lighter.

FWIW, KSwiss makes shoes in wide widths. I have a pair. They fit great, however, my feet feel like someone has been hitting them with sledge hammers after a couple hours of tennis in them, so, I don't really recommend them. However, they are LOW END ($40 shoes).

I had a serious ankle roll over / sprain last November and was off the courts for 7 mos. I now wear an aso brace (pictured above) and Prince Viper Mids. I have a wide foot, ( 2e in New Balance) and find the Viper III's to be plenty wide in the forefoot. They also have good cushioning.

I suggest the Propulse 2 by Babolat. I have slighlty wide feet and have trouble fitting comfortably into Nike/ Adidas shoes. To my surprise I fit into Asics, but didn't feel my toes till about a week into them. NB are great since they carry different widths. I'm 2E in those and they feel awesome on my feet. I also have a bad left ankle problem. A few years ago I fell on it with all my weight. It never really helped, but thank god it didn't break. I'm sure it would be worse if it had. Anyway, it super sensitive now, if I shift it slightly outward, it hurts and I have to relax for while depending on how badly I roll it. I wear the PP2's and they are lightweight, very comfy, and have nice ankle support. I have an ASO ankle brace, but I don't wear them in these shoes. They are already pretty stable to begin with. What sucks it that I've never hurt my ankle while playing tennism it's always when I'm doing something else.

I'm a 10 1/2 EE with high arches. I wear 11 D for tennis.
I'm rotating Kswiss UltraAscender Mid and Prince Viper V mid. The Viper mid is roomier and lighter with good ankle support.
The UltraAscender mid has alot more padding which makes it fit more snug. I prefer them for hardcourts due to better comfort.
After I rolled my ankle last summer, I tried offbrand braces. I got plantar farscia after wearing one time. It fit my foot too tight and pinched something on the side and bottom of my foot. A year later and I still have sharp pains.
I would try all available shoes before I try braces. Buy ASO braces if you choose that option.

BUY THE ASO ANKLE BRACES

THEY WILL SAVE UR ANKLES FOREVER

i slide all the time on hardcourt and have gotten really close to snapping my foot off

for example this happened to me

except since i was wearing my aso ankle braces i didnt even feel any pain after falling down. it felt like nothing had happened.

aso

i have always used braces in basketball, i guess i should stick to that path with tennis as well. im going to get some aso this weekend, and try on various shoes while i have them on. thanks for the input guys

+1 for ASO. Also, Superfeet insoles. Green for super arch support. Blue for slightly less pronouced arch support. Take care of your feet and ankles, and they will take care of you. :-)

ended up getting the air zoom tennis trainer and aso braces the air zoom trainers were only 60 locally at the store in houston.

thanks guys for the responses.
