suggest me a racket :)

D. Dokas

Rookie
ok well ive got 2 k90 and thinking of switching to something a little more forgiving.

a little about me, im 16, highly ranked junior, big ground strokes, love to come to net and play quite a bit of doubles.

im looking for a solid frame, still decent weight, larger frame say, 95-98 that's similar to the k90 just a tad more forgiving.

rackets i have used: price ozone pro mp, (head size too big), pure storm (to0 light and not solid enough), flexpoint radical (i liked it alot just not many around)

i was thinking of the following racquets, dunlop 4d 200, tflight 320, and i recently got a sponsership from united sports(fischer) so the new black granite no.1

please help out by adding a few more suggestions, dont just list racquets give reasons to support why.

thanks heaps :)

Can't really say which frame might be a better fit n moving to a larger frame doesn't mean that it will be more forgiving but here goes:

1. Head Speed Pro, I does play similar to the K90 but with a larger head, more mass but less feel. Decent feel, just not in the same class as the K90

2. K95, hated it compared to the N95 but overall a decent baseline bashing stick. Lacks the feel/precision of the K90 n even the N90 but it's slightly easier to generate pace compared to the K90.

3. If you liked the FX Radical why not try out the Youtec radical?

Ive gone the other way round and ended up with the wilson. But the Rebel is the real deal, 95" similar weight, good plow thro, great serving stick, lots of similarities to the k90, bigger sweetspot, great feel, more spin.....
for me less control, big winners, big misses, but if you can control it then it might be the one for you.
The fischer sticks are great but Id go for the M comp 95 than the 98, very low powered but great feel.
The k95 is a completely different animal, too powerful IMO, very striing sensitive. Dont know about n95 but Ive heard good things.

I used to play a good level, was a teaching pro and an MRT....played Div 1 college tennis and some satellites. Like you, I played the all-court game and I still do.

Not sure what's available in your area, but here's my take on it:

Similar specs to your K90 but a 95 head and a softer feel: Babolat Pure Storm LIMITED. Head Light balance, too -- great at net. Incredible touch. Thin, box beam so it's solid, but somehow they made it feel really forgiving.

Dunlop 4d ag 200. Ditto. Not as soft a feel as the LTD, but close. They say there is a new version with an open string pattern. Also the 90 headed 100 is amazing, if a little too light.
Dunlop 4d ag 300 Tour. 98 head. Great feel. Similar to the heavier radical in that it's too light. You will like it, but it feels too light when playing against guys who hit big. Of maybe you just use some lead tape.
Volkl PB 10 mid 93 or midplus 98. Both have great feel, especially for a guy who likes to come to net. Solid and heavy enough to deal with big hitters.
Babolat Pure Storm Tour. 98 head. Nice and heavy. The most solid feeling frame. Stiff but it does not feel stiff. the 98 head might feel too cumbersome for you, coming from a 90. AeroStorm Tour, too. SImilar.
K95. Solid feel, familiar cosmetics. But it feels stiff to me. Very powerful. Good specs. Thick beam bothered me. Not enough flex for me, personally.
Fischer is cool, especially the M-Comp 95 with the constant beam. A step above the k95 for sure.
I'm with mawashi on the HEAD Speed Pro. Great on paper, and I love the thin beam and the simple paintjob, but where's the feel?
Boris Becker Legend. Great. 98 head, though, and it looks like some sort of orange deamsicle. Nice is you remember Becker and you love orange and white.

All right, man. Best of luck.

thanks heaps guys,

im going down to my local shop to try a few out see if i like anything then the hunt will continue.

anything better coming out? i heard rogers got a new racket and as well as the youtek prestiges?

Hmm... If anything, I'd expect the Fed man to have a new paint job before switching to a new racquet, but I wish him well either way. Safe to say he's doing something right and I don't just mean that he's eating his Wheaties.

If you like to play an all court game and want a little bit larger hoop than the K90, I'll rattle off a few that I think fit that bill rather well - in listing these frames, I'm giving them a nod as strong alternatives to your mid. The Volkl 10 series, including the PB 10 mid, look rather strong and I've recently finished transitioning to their C10 Pro from the old 6.1 Classics. The C10's have a lot more control for me from the baseline, but perform quite well up at the net, too (I'm a 4.0 singles/4.5 doubles player with mostly a 1hbh). Despite having more flex than my older frames, I get no impression that there's significantly less power in these racquets for me.

The Yonex RDS 002 Tour is a very good serve and volley/doubles frame worth considering, but I didn't strike upon quite the same success with this one at the baseline as some others. The Fischer M-Comp is a rather mellow frame with some heft, but it's rather low powered and I could do everything a little better with my Volkls when I sampled these together. Boris Becker is sort of in the same family tree as Volkl and I'd expect their 11 series frames to run rather well, too.

The guy that I coach with recently acquired a Tecnifibre - one of the 315 models - and it seemed like a rather well laid out frame, but I'd personally be more curious to try one of their heavier models. Two other frames that look half decent are the newer Prince EXO3's; the Rebel and Ignite. Could be worth some research.

In my opinion, the pure drive Roddick has no feel at all. But considering it feels like a club, it hits better than expected, but not for me... Nothing like a k90.

Well that's easy - Rebel 95, string with 17g string @ mid-low tension, add lead as needed.

ok well some updates tried the dunlops, they were average i say, tried a few yonex's liked them but nothing really stood out.
but then out of nowhere this sparkling white racquet with a leather grip stuck out and fell into my hands and it was love at first forehand.

the head speed pro was the LAST racquet i thought id like, but man its a sweet stick, the plow through, the feel, spin ahh its heaven. its so similar to the k90 feel wise only more forgiving.

i definitely recomend some of you guys to give it a hit

I would recommend the Yonex-RDS001 MP. Exceptionally solid response on all shots, good weight (just under 12oz but doesn't feel as though it needs added weight), large sweetspot, good heft, spin friendly, head light, offers an exceptionally solid response on all shots, equally home at the net, baseline and transition shots.

Only thing is - is your sponsorship with United Sports based on you using Fischer racquets? If so, you've got less options.
