Super humid day on clay courts - string tension for NG/poly setup?

Hi all,

i have a huge issue when playing during suoer humid days in clay courts. Nit the best technique and mostly hitting flat with a PS97 strung 55/53 lbs with Klip Legend/Irucandi. I have far too many balls sailing long, the stringbed locks immediately even when newly strung and can’t get the required spin from the strings. When try to alter swingpath i -regretfully- screw up my technique and mostly end up hitting the net.

Any suggestions for string tension or different string setup which could help remedy the problem?

thanks in advance

Higher? I hesitate to increase more than 3lbs at a time. Up the gut 3lbs and the poly 2lbs for a nice 58/55

Tried a ridiculous number of full poly set ups and hybrids with the PS97. gut/poly, poly/multi, poly/ syn gut, etc. Never could find the control I was looking for in that frame. Haven’t hit with the new one but it is supposed to be easier to dial in.
Best I found was Luxilon Alu Power mains and Prince Synthetic Gut Duraflex crosses at 54/54. Gave me a poly type string bed that was softer and had good control the entire life of the stringbed.
Using this in a Prestige Mid 360+ 93” now at 47/47. Use it for 5-6 hrs and cut it out. I’m sure it would last 7-8hrs. $7 a frame and this amounts to stringing a frame every 2-3 weeks.

Let's define control for this instance...or at least let me elaborate on the issue: In highly humid days when I hit the smae way I hit on non humid days on hard courts, the balls sail long. If this is what you mean by control problem then OK. I am not speaking about accuracy of shots here, just plain depth problem. In non humid days, this set up works fine for me.

?i wonder about this. Some say the ball slows down whens it humid and they need to string looser? i always find a double fault a lot more whens its very humid like over 90%.
supposedly humid air is less dense? I find gut plays weird when its over 70%. It seems to just play dead and you don't get that great ball to string friction.

Dry is air is more dense but I believe the problem with humidity is not only the moisture in the air making the ball heavier but the moisture in the court as well.

I just posted my experience with this issue in a similar older thread:

Temperatures dropped in the last month in Europe and clay has been very damp in the mornings. Lowish sun hasn't been doing a great job drying out the courts.
I've noticed that the balls are full of clay now. Even in the peak of the summer when we were watering the courts every set, they would dry in an instant and balls would not pick up moisture.
With that being said, my gut/poly string jobs have horrible durability these days. I barely get 10h out of them if I am lucky.
Additionally, the clay really sticks to the gut and makes it look opaque and orange-like. Pretty dirty. The snapback is gone after 2-3h along with the spin that comes with it. I hit very long even though tension is stable. I need to spray silicon spray or oil them to get snapback, spin and control back. It's super annoying.
The pros must be going through double the number of frames they usually go through at a tournament.

PS. I use VS or Tonic but I'm going to stop using Tonic now that I'm out of strings. Tonic is just an inferior string to VS with way less coating on it in my experience. Tonic breaks much quicker than VS.

How are you getting an ALU Hybrid for $7 a frame?

How are you finding the poly/syn gut setup compared to gut/poly?
I'm looking to test out some other setups because the humid clay here is just destroying the gut.
I've tried poly/multi before and that was comfortable but after 2-3h the mains stopped snapping back due to the added friction.
Same issue with syn gut crosses?
