Ok survivalist wannabees! Who watches these two shows? Surviorman is probably my favorite show on TV... Which one do you think is better? I have to give the nod to Survivorman. Les Stroud is the man... he is literally out there all alone! I give him all the credit in the world. Bear Grylls has some people to talk to and a camera crew...even though he says they don't intervene....yeeeeeeeeah. I'm on Les Stroud's mailing list, just read his blog on his web site, looks like he's going to have a new season of Survivorman coming out, he just survived the Kalahari desert according to his blog. Can't wait!

I agree with your comment about Les Stroud being out there all alone. It just seems more realistic.

That's funny--my wife and I were just joking about how we'd like to see a survival contest between these two. Bear has a cooler accent and some impressive special forces training, but Les is more hard core. He's one tough Canadian, plus, he created the music for his show. A triple threat!

Next up: Which anime weapon is more powerful: The Argo's Wave Motion Gun or the SDF-1's Reflex Cannon?

Fair enough, that was pretty balsy. My problem with Grylls is in his Alps episode. He jumped into a frozen lake to show how to get out if you break through the ice. If he was there alone, he would NEVER have done that. Les would never have done that, because he is alone. That's just a stupid thing to do in a survival situation--which automatically proves Man vs. Wild is just entertainment, not an actual survival show like Survivorman. You'll never seen Les doing anything that extreme.

Survivor Man... once Bear gets rid of the camera people then they will be about the same. What is going to happen to Bear? About to die, camera crew gets him out of there. Les Stroud? About to die... and he... will be screwed, nobody to save him. It is more real.

I didn't vote because the two shows operate under a different set of rules. Yes, Man vs. Wild has more of an entertainment aspect to it. When he jumped into the frozen lake, you could see that he had pre-dug a set of hand holds to pull himself out. Still, I can't do 1/10th of the things these guys do, so I'm not complaining.

Les is the man for sure,

but Bear is awful fun to watch. When he pissed on his t-shirt and then tied it around his head, I was rolling on the floor!

I won't be jumping in a frozen lake, but I wouldn't mind trying out the quicksand escape (as long as my camera crew is there to pull me out).

I have never seen the prog. that Les Stroud is in cos i dont think they show it UK,but they have started showing a prog. of Bear Grylls over here. From what people are saying they seem to think that Les is the ultimate, but i still think Bear Grylls is good,i now know how to build a bed in a weird tree thing in the florida everglades so i dont get eaten by alligators!

Lol Ray Mears is a dude aswell! Not quite as hardcore as the other two though.

Man Versus Wild or Survivorman?

What show do you like more? I'd certainly go with Man Versus Wild because I think Bear is awesome. Total badass and the show's more entertaining to me.

Both are excellent. I do remember Bear drinking his own urine just so he'd have something to drink. Yikes!

I love the concept of both shows: being out in nature, by yourself, doing whatever it takes to survive. It is so alien compared to what most of us go through on a day-to-day basis, and yet it is basic information that we should all know... just in case. It's sad that some people can barely survive one day without a cell phone and a credit card.

However, Survivorman is the real deal. He is literally out there by himself and has only himself to depend on. Because of this, he takes a more cautious, constructive, and efficient approach to his survival methods. He tries to avoid things that might make him sick or injured, unless he has exhausted all his other options. Bear on the otherhand show boats at every turn, doing ridiculous things that no one in their sane mind would attempt if their life was actually hanging in the balance. While Bear is wasting his time and energy and taking unnecessary risks, Les is resting up and pacing himself.

I think both men are top notch survival experts, but the Man vs Wild show is definately more geared towards entertaining the viewer with wild antics and Bear with his shirt off. Even though the obvious editing done in M vs W gets annoying sometimes and his methods are a bit unrealistic, I probably watch both shows about equally just because they are better than the rest of the crap that's on TV these days.

I loved the peepee t shirt episode with Bear. Just too funny. However, Les carries his own camera equipment and then sometimes has to double back to film his entrance to a place after he has set the camera up. I find his episodes to be more realistic, although I seriously doubt his crew is going to leave him in a truly life threatining situation with no way to contact them. This being said, both shows have their strong points.

man vs wild hands down.

survivor man just annoys me. the camera sucks and he just bothers me.

man vs wild on the other hand, has a great camera crew and the guy knows anything about everything. he just has a more likeable personality.
and come on, the guys name is bear. thats fricken amazing.

well you can't blame the guy. He is alone without a camera crew. Which means limited film, limited time to set up and etc...

I like survivor man much better because you can really learn a thing or two about surviving, more realistic.
