Swedish cars

Has anyone here ever owned or driven an old Saab or Volvo, the real ones that were made in Sweden. Cars like
Saab 99, 900 and 9000
Volvo P1800, 142, 164, 2, 4, 7, 8 or 9 series or a C 70’couoe or anything else from Sweden?
Both these car companies had their own ideas about making cars. In the 70’s and 80’s people saw these cars as very safe designs and some were very reliable.
The very boxy Volvo 240, 245, 262 coupes were sold for a long time and were very durable cars. Both these brands with their older models are becoming quite popular with the hipster crowd.

We had a 900 2 door (not a hatchback), and two 9-3s. We really liked them, they were fun to drive. I remember when I was in Australia in 2009 reading that only three had been sold in the country that year, and knew they were in real trouble.

Swedish made cars that recharge Themselves. Born to be Wild, Freedom for All.....!!!
!!!
If they are EV’s they can’t be freedom cars because they can be switched off by the manufacturer or government any time they like and then you can eat ze bugs and own nothing, Volvo will be fully electric in a short tine but you the owner will have no real ownership.
They can disable your EV whenever it suits them and then what are you going to do? Fail to service your car where they tell you, the company won’t let you charge it up anywhere. The Chinese made EV’s which Volvo is part of can be manipulated from China. They could disable a whole fleet of cars if your country had a point of difference in any matter. This is the problem with EV’s they are totalitarian cars. If you bought an EV and left you alone then great but they are not going to do that.
I like cars, but not when they are being weaponised against you:

Thank you enjoy reading this stuff.

The old Volvos and Saabs are the true conservation cars because they last forever. This thread is about the old cars.

My mom had a 1976 Saab 99 GLE. That was a great car to drive, but not 100% reliable like a Toyota or Honda. It was a 4-door sedan with trunk, but the back seats folded flat so you could use it somewhat like a hatchback. She really like the car, but bought a Honda Accord to replace it in when it got too expensive to repair.

It’s reality Chris. Do you know that traffic lights in your suburb can sense your EV’s battery every where you go. Be careful as to what you are prepared to give up for what you think is a good deal thing.

Years ago I saw a Saab with a vanity plate that read "SNAAB".

If you don't like yoru Saab, you could get a plate that says "SOB" instead.

Thats your problem, not mine.
I kind of expected you to say something like that and many would probably agree with you, but that’s how the world works.
It may be a problem for people like me to deal with but that doesn’t mean that I will be affected by the problem;

The problem looks to be inside of you. Not in the outside world. It seems you are interested and keen on figuring things out and will succeed if you are dedicated and take it on.

The way it will play out is that you will be a loyal customer and complier to the central planners dictates and they may allow you some small scraps of what they will call privileges. What you need to understand though is that the central planners will treat you as they wish, because you allowed them to do so in the first place, so things will get worse not better.
The way things may play out for people like myself Is that because I will be a small minority they will despise me at first but then forget I exist because it’s easier for them to focus and use you.
People will move to different parts of the world because not every country will follow the same narrative or system . Even now there are provinces around the world that are forcing and mandating that people to adopt EV’s or not be allowed to use the roads and these places will
also have other rules and restrictions on your living arrangements.
I’m talking to you now about these things but there will come a time when this will either be not possible or people will live such different types of existence that yoiu won’t know what’s going outside your small and contained place of residency.
Did you know that when the men’s soccer World Cup was on that certain countries blocked out vision of the crowd to control a perceived narrative. I cannot say this any clearer or with as much tact as possible but that’s how it will play out(

This is an interesting old Volvo that was actually build in Holland. Stef from , “ I drive a classic “, put together this review. It’s a YouTube channel based in the UK pitched at younger people ( and some not so young) who would like to get into a classic or unique car that is still affordable.

One of the benefits of owning an old Volvo is that unlike many older and classic cars, Volvo has a lot of spare parts available and for an old car they are pretty safe compared to others of the era,

I never thought I would ever develop an interest in classic Volvo cars, I have always preferred the Japanese classics particularly the older Zeds and Toyotas, Mitsubishi, Hondas, Subaru and Mazda and Isuzu but many of these cars are now very expensive. A 240z here in Australia starts at 50k.
With Volvo and SAAB the values still haven’t taken off yet. I am more into original and period look and one particular model that I think is really cool is the 142 coupe,
If you look around with these brands and even BMW and Opel you can find some interesting stuff;

It’s interesting how when I start a thread about an old classic or sports car marque that there are a few who want to push Electric Cars, all the time. If that’s what the enjoy owning well
fairv enough,
I like the old classics because they are unique, easy to work on most of the time, they have character, they tend to hold their value and some may even appreciate and the communities are really friendly. Depending on the car, some are fun to drive and you don’t have to go fast to enjoy yourself. Part of the joy in owning a classic is getting an average car and restoring them to new like condition.

This guy is based in San Diego but he travels stoujd the country to find classic Volvos, I believe thus 164 model is a real alternative to an old Jag, Merc or BMW but is still well priced. If you are on the west coast of the US I think you could find something good,

Thanks mate, I like it that way as it gives me the initiate to live free and take responsibility for my life.
As far as having a go at me, that’s coming from inside of you, but I will leave that to you;

There you go again... There we have it. Outsourcing your worries onto others. I think you are curious and smart enough to look now at yourself and see that pattern and if you work hard enough Im sure you will open up and progress.

I like the freedom the EV can bring.
Freedom from freedom it seems. EV’s are so good that you are forced to buy or subscribe to one and all other cars must be forbidden.
If you want to really stop climate change buy an old Volvo or Saab for not much money and conserve planetary resources. EV’s use more carbon due to the manufacturing process and extraction of minerals than any savings you think you might get by charging them at all the millions of charging stations that need to be built, all the way to its useful life, which isn’t that long compared to a classic Volvo, and then you have to do it all over again. Not a very sustainable or scientific idea.
The only reason EV’s are being pushed is so that authorities can control you and corporations can fleece money out of you for the rest of your life.
The company owns your EV and you can be switched off whenever they dam well like, and for any reason that displeases them
and there will be nothing you can do about it whatsoever.
Do you people comprehend?

The most famous and classic Swedish car ever made is the Volvo P1800. Made famous by Roger Moore in his TV series, “ The Saint”, this video is the actual car he drove - such a beautiful car and I want one:

If your garage is big enough to be defined as a museum you could have a few heirloom cars, but an EV will be the normal version of the auto by 2030.
Yes the new normal:
1. Digital ID
2. CBDC
3. Social credit score & individual ESG
4. 15 minute cities - smart cities agenda
5. EV compliance
6. Govt mandated health protocols
7. Weather engineering
8. Drone surveillance and enforcement measures
Happy with all that because that’s what you will get if you keep complying and agreeing with all this. However you still have a chance to push back.

The EV is a car, not the apocalypse.
It’s part of a control measure and independent electric cars will not be permitted, only ones that are controlled by corporate government alliance.
You will have no autonomy, you will completely be at the mercy of the government. As that what you want for yourself?

Do you know solar panels create radioactive waste?

This thread is about classic Swedish cars, not electric cars. Using digital and electric technology to control the lives of humans is a nefarious act. Using climate change to roll out enslavement directives should not be supported. What is wrong with you ? Your kids will be in a digital prison.
