Switch to K90 or buy what's left of the POG's?

Hey guys,

So I have had my POG's for a while and they are pretty beat up..the bumper guard and grommets are being "shaved" off haha (maybe I should order new ones...). But yeah..I'm really sad that they are going to discontinue the POG...so should I buy a couple more or switch to the K90 (last time I played/demo'd, it's the only other racket I love besides the POG). The thing is..every retailer I've checked doesn't have the POG mid in 4 3/8 grip size, so I would have to go up to 4 1/2 or down to 4 1/4. Is it still worth it? Will different grip size make much of a difference?
 
Will the weight difference be a big deal? I love the racket head speed I get with the POG and its thin beam. It's like I'm slicing through the air!
 
i have never played with the POG and to me, the k90 isn't a heavy a racquet. when i first had it, i thought it was underpowered but then i restrung it at 45 lbs and found it could produce all the power that i need.

for some people maybe but i have always had good ball control. for me the best string tensions are 50 lbs for midsize plus, 45 lbs for midsize, and 40 lbs for standard size (65 sq-in) racquets.

i've been playing with it every day for like a month now so i think the string tension probably has dropped to the high 30's by now.
 
So you've never had a problem with swing weight either? How old are you? Haha..you must have been using 15 oz. rackets all your life huh?
 
the heaviest racquet i have is the kneissl white star big. it is 14.5 oz strung. the guy who strung the racquet couldn't believe it :)

i have a lot of racquets but i have decided to use only the k90 for practice and match play. i miss not using my other racquets but i think i should stick to one model of racquet and focus on improving my game.
 
I string my K90s and KPS88s low too. High 40s to low 50s. You can generate a ton of spin at those tensions. You might want to wait on your K90 decision as it appears that there's going to be a replacement for it early next year. On the plus side, that means that you can pick them up for cheap but it may mean that you might have to make a switch again in a few years if Wilson discontinues production. Going with their new stuff may give you a few extra years of not having to worry about switching.

The K90 has been at $200 for several years now...
And I've had my POG's since my sophomore year in high school. I'm a freshman in college now. I don't know if it would be worth the wait considering I don't have a place to demo if the new line comes out. And demoing from TW would be a little inconvenient. That's why I'm considering the K90's now. But they are out of stock right now and won't be until the 12th..so I still have time to make a decision.

Wow it's almost refreshing to hear a young guy like you like an older "classic" frame. I just firgured anyone younger than 25 is used and loves the current "modern" frames, hehe. As for demoing from TW, I'd say this would be an important enough to go through a little inconvenience...or it maybe more convenient to demo through a closer online tennis retailer. Have you looked into trying out the Head Youtek Speed Pro or Head Youtek Radical Pro? I believe TW Forum member was saying he went from a Donnay Pro One (basically a copy of the POG) to having a Head Youtek Radical Pro right now. Granted those aren't as cheap as the Wilson Ksixone Tour 90 due to the price drop, but you won't know what you like until you try various frames out.
 
I had a look at the specs on the Speed Pro and was surprised to see another heavier racquet out there. It seems like finding frames in the 240 and up swingweight range was pretty hard to do two years ago. It seems like a nice combination: large head, fairly stiff, high swingweight, moderately high static weight for someone looking for a frame with more classical feel.
 
I'd go with the POG. With new Wilson racquets *possibly* coming out soon, I wouldn't buy the older model right now.

But if you use a 1/2 grip size don't buy them all because I'm going to buy one soon :) Actually, it would probably be better for you to go down to a 1/4, it can easily be increased.

I tried the Speed Pro and it was too flimsy at the head and too stiff throughout. It was like playing with the Extreme..The Radical wouldn't be much different because it doesn't have that plow through feel. I don't know why but it seems that I always prefer how solid the POG is to soo many other rackets I have tried. The Microgel Prestige mid and Prestige Pro were still a little too light for me. I think the only Head racket that would work for me is the PC600 :D How long is TW's demoing program? I just find it inconvenient that I have to package the rackets really well and send them back...I dunno. We'll see. The reason I was looking into the K90 is because it is one the rare modern rackets that has a classic feel and is just solid in all aspects.

But you just can't beat the price of the POG. Getting a pair at $240 is a steal considering most rackets are nearly $200 each. So do you guys think grip size really makes a big difference?

Haha, there's 4 of each grip size in stock right now. Don't worry! I'd get another pair at the most, so that means there's 2 for you too :D

I don't know what it is about newer frames but when the stiffness rating is high, they really mean it. The Speed Pro was jarring and hurt my arm. The swing weight is lower than listed due to the thin beam and how easy it is to swing right through the air. It was actually really light too, lighter than my POG.
I'm too picky when it comes to rackets :) All the new stuff disappoints me a little.
 
I can't compare the POG or the Kfact tour because I've never hit with them, but the old aerostorm 08 was a very nice racquet. It would probably have more power than both the POG and Kfact.
