Switching from Vcore 95 to Percept 97D

I may have converted my buddy to the Percept 97D. He’s currently plays with 20 year old K six-one 95 Pro Staffs. He has been demoing the new CX 200 Tour, V14 Pro Staff & Blade V9. I told him the Percept 97D is like the CX 200 Tour or Blade V9 on steroids. He actually put 3 grams in the hoop to get it up to 340 swing weight like his Pro Staff’s. He absolutely loved how it played & really loved the feel of the racquet. He’s got 3 matches this coming week that he’s going to continue to test in match play.

So does anyone know if Giron really did switch to the Percept 97D? He just smoked Tiafoe in Dallas.

Tiafoe, btw, finally using at least the Percept paint job, after first playing with it in Cincinnati (or Toronto) last year, and then surprisingly playing with his old Vcore Pro 97 at the US Open (which Yonex could not have been very happy about). So I'm wondering if Francis actually switched, or if he is still using the Vcore Pro.
His string and tension choice are interesting as well. Rev and PTP @51/47.. 4 lbs lower on the crosses. Wonder if he finds that helps in the denser pattern. Coming from a 16x19 then to the P100D, I’ve dropped my tension from 47/45 to 42/40. Sacrificed a bit of control, but I get a lot more shape and pop it’s been a worthwhile trade off.

I’m a 51/48 guy. As a stringer I always try to get players to try 3lb differential in radicals, stiffer sticks, and all YY. 3-5 for YY actually.

Crosses have a much shorter run, hence lower tension. It balances out perfectly. Better pocketing, less boardy.

Agreed. Vcore 95 2023 felt more powerful and better access to spin. I liked the update but felt I was still in the same position of wanting more feel/consistent string bed. It might be that VDM technology I don’t like. Personally I thought forgiveness was very similar to 2021 but that’s just my experience. I felt a big difference when I played with 97D.
Can you make comparison between 95 2023 vs SV 95? I heard the SV is the best Vcore 95 for raw power and direct feel.

Wes, what did you end up settling on. I’m curious because if you are who I think you are we were supposed to play in T2 but alas the match never happened.

Seeing if I can reviving this thread a little bit, because it looks like there are quite some people here that have hit extensively with the Percept 97D. I've just acquired one secondhand in a good deal, and was wondering which strings people have been enjoying in this frame? It's got PTP in it at the moment at about 48 bs, but felt a bit too high. I'll probably lower that tension, but thinking maybe trying Pure Rush, or 4G soft in it. I like the idea previously suggested to string the crosses significantly lower as well.

For what it's worth, I was stringing my crosses 2-3 lbs lower than my mains on my Vcore 95, but I tried one string job with the same tension both ways, and I didn't notice a huge difference. I'm using Solinco Revolution 17g, currently at 47/47, in my 2023 Vcore 95, and I really, really like it. Excellent blend of spin and feel, and the durability is just incredible. These strings somehow feel good and fresh for so much longer than anything else I've played with.

Thanks! Did you also end up experimenting with the 97D?

Another convert to 97D here. I moved from VC95 - TF40 - 97D and love this frame. Its the perfect balance of offense and defense for me. I felt the defense was lacking with the VC95 and offense with the TF40.

For strings I would recommend PT Rev or Toroline Enso Pro(pink ones). I tried almost all the Toroline strings and the Enso pro and the O-Toro seem to work really well with Percept. I string between 48 or 45lbs.

No, not the Percept. After trying various Vcor Pro Models, I've been happy enough with the Vcore 95 that I haven't wanted to try anything else.

Basically I was playing mostly with the older (green) Vcore Pro 97HD, then the (purple/green/pink) 97D, before trying both versions of the regular Vcore Pro 97 (green and purple), before finally arriving at the Vcore 95.

And I've gone back to the Vcore pros here and there, to see if I would like them again, and they are by no means bad. I would probably be fine playing with almost any of them, but they certainly feel muted compared to the regular Vcore 95.

I was actually so interested in making the Vcore Pro 97 (purple) work for me that I put in some stiffer poly strings than I normally use, in order to generate more feel at impact, but it still gave me less feedback than the Vcore 95.

ABSOLUTELY one should always string a yonex three or so lbs lower in the crosses. Whether you “feel it” or not. Three is fine, and what I’ve been doing for decades (stringer). This is not just my preference.

Strung up the 97D with Restring Sync 1.20, 21 kg in the mains and 19 kg in the crosses. I didn’t like this string in my PSVS, but liked the feel in this Percept. Comfortable, relatively easy power, but also precise.
