SX 300 (2020)

Can see that this one and the more recently updated (mainly yellow) version have got extremely Pure Aero-ish vibes. But the '20 (more black) stick comes with a pretty unusual spin-enhancing grommet system as well as so-called 'PowerGrid tech' and denser crosses, so - in theory - your getting both vast Steam-ish spin capability as well as good control and the ability to flatten out when so inclined.

So much for theory. What's the reality for anyone familiar with the SX 300 (100" not the Tour version)? Anyone like this frame (or not)?...

I picked up the newest version just recently. Coming from hitting with 200g 18x20 for years I was surprised I actually liked the SX 300. Yes it’s very Aero-ish and plays similar but with a softer flex. I’ve never tried any spin type racquets but the SX 300 spin is off the charts imo.

i also demoed the Rafa Aero side by side with the SX 300 and I found both racquets produced the same ball and spin the only real difference I felt was the SX 300 was more comfortable and I was able to flatten out my forehand with good results. The Aero I felt you had to hit with big spin all day everyday and flattening out any stroke was a gamble lol. It’s like the flatter the stroke the more unpredictable the racquet became. I thought it had something to do with the grip shape as I’m very familiar with Dunlop but apparently there’s something to this string mapping thing. Don’t get me wrong the SX 300 isn’t the flat ball hitting monster like a Prestige mid or Muscle Weave 200g but it’s better than the Aero IMO.

My son uses the older black/green 270g lite version and it plays fine. I'm not a huge fan of the denser mid-string area...defeats the purpose of getting a spin frame but otherwise a decent tweener. Since they are pretty cheap at that other big online vendor, it's worth a flyer if you are looking for a 100in tweener frame.

I tried the regular 300g (‘20 model) very briefly, since I used the Tour version for several months. Very nice hit. It was more control oriented and I strung mine around 48 with .17ga RPM Blast black. I strung my Tour version slightly tighter around 51lbs. The tighter string pattern in the middle propelled the ball through the court like an 18x20 and it dipped at the last minute. It’s a little different. The heavier Tour version slowed this down a bit, but I won all my matches with it (doubles). The Tour was a good grinding racquet. I was very consistent.

The only reason I gravitated to these was because the head felt smaller than a 100”, especially the FX500 (non Tour), unlike Babolat, which feels bigger than a 100”.

The new one (yellow) is a hot mess. Too flexy and uncontrollable.

Very interesting... Confirms and perhaps enhances/exceeds what I was expecting hear.

Whilst gelling with a lot of traits of your typical tweener, for a number of years now I've had something of an aversion to very high launch angle and hard to hit flat with frames. That is on me and my technique, but it is also why I often prefer it when the centre is a bit denser.

Again, very interesting re the SX 300 '20... Your closing remark re the '22 model echoes other comments I've read and heard.
