T Fight 315?

How much do you like that Alpha Gut? I think you might be better served with a different string. If you really want to unlock the "magic" Gut/poly is unbeatable (and ridiculously expensive...but life is short, and I think everyone should try it once...especially in an 18M)

I highly recommend reading this whole thread as well!!! It's awesome!!! But just to share what I have found works for me. 1/4 inch lead, both sides of the grommets the entire length of the bumperguard (I put it underneath it...it looks better!) Then I usually will remove the silicone that Tecnifibre put in, and replace it with my own (read as, more silicone!)

Good luck!!! Enjoy the journey!!!

Great question. I do some stringing and keep Alpha Gut on hand for a decent/basic option for those who wish to keep their investment low. For the price it's pretty good. While it is not my personal go-to string, I know how it plays so it provides a good foundation for me to directly compare racquets and restring multiple times at different tensions without breaking the bank. I typically play a full bed of Klip Legend 17 or hybrid it in the mains with a softer poly in the crosses, so I am with you on the gut/poly combo*. Just can't justify two or more beds of that on initial trial, especially knowing that I'll only keep one of the two string patterns.

Brief Update on 315:
Swapped the pallet on my 16M last night from stock 4-1/4" to 4-1/2" TK82S, and installed a Head butt cap with trap door. Definitely like the change in form factor better. Only downside is I likely should have gone for the 4-5/8". May put a 1/2 size shrink sleeve on and a synthetic grip. I had to stretch the stock leather so much to make it fit the new pallet that it really thinned out. May try a Head leather grip as well, as those seem thicker to me. Recording specs along the way, so will have those soon.

*Gut/Poly:
I'm with you. Once you've tried it, it's hard to go back. More expensive? From a pure cost perspective, yes. But in my experience gut holds tension a lot longer and does not break as easily as lore would indicate, so I get better mileage and play-ability out of the stringbed. Got acquainted with this setup back in 2005 when I started using gut for my then 12 year-old son after he developed bicep tendinitis. Klip Legend 17 mains/PHT crosses, 57/53 lbs in the first edition Pure Storm, slightly modded with lead at 3/9 when he hit high school. Only racquet and string combo he's played with since, through Juniors (ranked #1 in USTA District), HS (won State), NAIA college (ranked #28 in the nation), and now playing adult USTA 5.0. (Must have bought up 20+ of those racquets over the years to keep him supplied!) He had a stellar career, and I attribute a lot of his success to the gut/poly and no equipment changes over that entire time. He always knew exactly what to expect from his racquets. Even ordered sets of Klip from TW Europe and then directly from Klip in Australia when his college coach didn't stock up and US supplies ran out during their season. He was so used to exactly how it played by that time that even VS and Pacific did not work for him. He knew the difference. A testament to the advantage and predictability of playing with the same equipment over time.

I'm using Babolat Tonic + 15L mains (58) and Luxilon Timo 17L Crosses (56). Did a 10% stretch on the gut mains (Heard reviews mentioning that it takes a couple hours hitting before the gut really starts pocketing and feeling good. It felt good in the first 1/2 hr and has felt amazing for now about 6 sets of play plus practices on the strings so far). Plenty of power, incredible control, no arm pain, and excellent spin. Not as much spin as with Tourbite soft, but it's way more comfortable. Background notes - I've tried about 6 different string combinations including Solinco TourBite Soft 17, Babaolat VS Touch 16, Tecnifibre NRG2 17, Tecnifibre X-One Biphase, Genesis Black, Tecnifibre Black Code. And my favorite combination is Tonic + and Timo.

I would suggest getting the Gamma Leather grip - it's about 6 grams heavier than the stock leather grip and it'll give you a 4 5/8 feel, with an overwrap (compared to the 4 1/2 which feels smaller than 4 1/2 to me) . As I like a full 4 1/2 and I bought the 4 3/8 and did exactly as I described. It gave me a few of the extra 'lead' balance grams that I needed to offset the 8 grams I put at 9:30 (4g) and 2:30 (4g). Final strung result is 357g and 10pts HL. Love the feel, it's the holy grail. I have friends that try it and are completely amazed and jonesing now for the 315LTD! I have 5 of them BTW - 3 16's and 3 18's.

I recently bought a Volkl pallet and butt cap to build up a grip on a racket. Long story short the butt cap is made with a very soft material (maybe silicone not sure.) There is also some soft sponge material inside the butt cap. But I've read the Volkl soft butt caps do not fit on the head pallets (TK82 like the 315 Limited) so you may also have to replace the pallets if you want to try them. The pallets for Volkl seem very light and the butt caps seem a bit heavier. If anyone is interested I can weigh them.

Not sure if this interest you or not, just though I'd bring it up as an option for anyone seeking more vibration dampening.

The Limited 315s don't have next generation, they are the only version released.

Prestige pro is quite similar in look and performance, but feels stiffer and more powerful

There is a new one announced, just trying find out if it's just a new pj or a new stick.

If y’all remember I was given the only US prototype and posted pictures awhile back. I gave Tecnifibre my feedback about keeping the racquet the same with updated paint colors.

They added Dynacore to the frame which in my opinion made the sweet spot smaller.

I’ll have my racquets next week and can report back. They are being released at the start of the U.S Open.

I extended mine to 27.5" and leaded it up to 357g strung. The frame feels much better after adding lead in my opinion...

I got mine at 360g strung, in a pretty headlight setup. Love it. I am thinking about extending it... in hopes of making my serve a bit bigger, and having a bit more space to wrap my hand around the handle for my 2hbh.

How did you extend yours? And how is that going? Seems solid??

I hope they add armor cap and the string grommets and then just keep the rest of the frame the same dynacore would be cool too

Neither of those things happened. Let me rephrase. The dynacore made the sweet spot feel smaller. I have not proof that it actually is except for the week I had the frame.

I played D1 college tennis at an SEC School and now run an academy for high level junior players. The sweet spot has never felt small on the old frame. New frame it does. The pallets on the new frame are I believe TK82s now. I might need to check my notes to verify but I’m pretty sure that’s true.

Maybe string setup?

I've been involved alot with tecnifibre lately and their racquets are really well set up I think, as a stringer they feel like they have been set up with the stringer in mind with the stringing eyelets horseback saddles etc. I also have been stringing with red code wax and it is exceptionally smooth and easy to strung with for a poly.

I have a 16m, and it is one of the rare racquets that I don't get along with. I play with variety of racquets (Prince TT95 is my main stick), mostly players specs 340-360g weight, 90-100 sq in, 6 to 10 pts HL, 330-340 SW. This is one racquet that I struggle to find a sweet spot, no matter how I set it up.

I send my frames to Roman and have him extend them with a molded handle (Wilson grip shape, size 2.5, leather grip). I have done this for years with a variety of frames and never had issues, his work is always superb.

Anyone tried Kirschbaum Super Smash 17 in their 315's? I wanted to try a different poly than my normal Luxilon, I'm excited for when my 315 comes in!

My main sticks are Angells but I keep this in my bag all the time. Great stick, comfortable and very control-oriented, IMO. Got it from @JohnBPittsburgh on a great deal too a few months back. Have it strung with full bed Cyclone @45 lbs. I also have 5 grams at 12 under the bumper and a Wilson Pro OG over the original leather and it plays beautifully. Much thanks to John for introducing me to it. It's the 16M. I kinda like the funky orange string color with green overgrip look. Gives this traditional feeling stick a modern look.

Hey Folks...

Do you feel the 315 would be a good fit for a 12-13y/o junior? I've got a strong 12 y/o daughter who is moving off of a Juice. Current racket's ~315g strung/gripped. Hits a very heavy ball, aggressive, plays Nationally. Not small... she's 5'4" and around 125 pounds.

I officiate Juniors and D1. I've seen players using the 300, and spoken to a few D1 women who spoke favorably about the 300, but the Tecnifibre rep is recommending going straight to the 315. Good idea??

I think you are referring to the non-limited 315? Cause this thread is 99% tec 315-Limited related. I dont know much About the regular 315, but what I can say is that the limited is completely different than the wilson juice. Limited is more a softer prestige MP. I would recommend it to anyone looking for Great feel, control and manouvrability.

Ahhh... Gotcha. Thanks for the feedback. It's the plain-Jane T-Fight 315 DC. Guess we'll give it a shot and see how she likes it.

That would depend a lot on your daughter and what she likes. All three rackets are 98 si, 27", 16x19 pattern. But the pattern on the Limited frame is tighter that the other two rackets giving you more control IMO. The 300 and the other 315 are stiffer frame while the Limited / LTD are more flexible. SW in the 300 and 315 Dynacore / DC are 310+ while the Limited / LTD are much lower. The Limited / LTD models are going to be more forgiving and maneuverable in the long run if you can keep the ball in the sweet spot there is will better control also. IMO the 315 Limited / LTD beg for more mass in the head. If you're going to be bring the mass up on the 315 Limited / LTD models the Limited / LTD models are going to be heavier than the other two.

My suggestion would be to demo the 300 dc, 315 DC, and the 315 LTD when the new LTD frames come out in September. Let your daughter decide which frame she likes.

I like the idea of my juniors having to work hard to get power on the ball.... By that I mean develop technique. It is a soft frame so will help with overuse injuries. I'd love all players under 14 to play with a low ra if they are logging high hours. Also I like them to hybrid as opposed to full poly.

Finally got mine in the mail about 20 minutes ago. I'm going to play with it for a week stock just to get a feel for it and figure out where to add lead.

I was thinking about taking the bumper off and putting lead under there since I don't want to put lead over the cosmetics since it's so nice looking and I usually put lead at 12 anyways. Is there a best way to do that?

@JohnBPittsburgh?

That is always easiest before the first time you string it... good luck :)

Its a bit more work to put the grommets back through the holes, but with a bit of time, patience and hot water/blow dryer or whatever you'll make it work.

I didn't do it on my own rackets; I have the lead on the inside of the hoop, I like how that looks....

It's harder after it's already been strung? I got it strung already :( lol
When the racket is strung there is a knot at the top and some grommets are bent at the outer mains as the strings pull on them. After a little time they tend to stay deformed. They can be straightened out but they will be harder to reinstall. If lead is placed under the grommet before it is strung it's much easier.

Another option is to buy new grommets and replace them after you install the lead tape.

Just got back from my first hitting session with it as my new go to stick, won all 3 sets of doubles I played 7-6, 6-3 and 6-2!

The racket just feels so great in your hands, I've pretty much always stuck with traditional players rackets until the Pure Drive Roddick I just switched from but the feel you get with this is just on a completely different level. I don't know if I was getting the same pop with it especially since I haven't leaded it up yet, but it felt like I was getting more just because I actually felt the ball. Sounds so good coming off the racket.

With the smaller sweet spot, would you recommend or not this racquet as a replacement for BPD for a high level jr/freshman D1 college player (UTR around 13)? Son has talked with TF rep as his college does not supply racquets. What are the biggest differences between Pure Drive and the newest version of the Flight? Is it less stiff than PD? What about spin?

I assume that's the pre-sale

No... got the current (2013) one on sale from TWE... who knows what the Dynacore will do to the feel of the new one or if they've tinkered with a great thing... plus the new one will be the normal price... when folks realize that the Wilson UT is an overpriced 315 Ltd 18M...(all mods being equal)...

I tend to operate on a bird in hand is worth two in the bush kind of principle... Sometimes it becomes a valuable bird... ;):D... Fingers crossed...

A week later, I'm still convinced this is the greatest piece of sporting equipment ever made. I still only have one, I will be changing this very shortly.

How do you guys like Red Code in it? I'm loving the Kirschbaum Super Smash 17 in it so far!
