At least try and rank your top 3 and feel free to rank them all.

Were any real duds for you?

My top 3 in order:

Pulp Fiction
Jackie Brown
Reservoir Dogs

I personally enjoyed all of his movies though I would say Hateful Eight is the weakest in the pack. I have not got round to watching Inglorious Basterds.

Hey, I just logged in to this forum to write that I haven't watched any movie for a long time and tonight I decided to rent a movie and Pulp Fiction was there at the front and as it had a good rating I decided to rent it. I had absolutely no idea what I was going to expect:

1. First few minutes, I was like: :eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:

2. After a while I was like :laughing::laughing::laughing::laughing::laughing::laughing::laughing::laughing::laughing::laughing::laughing::laughing::laughing::laughing::laughing::laughing::laughing::laughing::laughing::laughing::laughing::laughing::laughing::laughing::laughing::laughing::laughing::laughing::laughing::laughing::laughing::laughing::laughing::laughing::laughing::laughing::laughing::laughing::laughing::laughing::laughing::laughing::laughing::laughing::laughing::laughing::laughing::laughing::laughing::laughing::laughing::laughing::laughing::laughing::laughing::laughing:

I stopped halfway and will watch the rest tomorrow.

This movie reminds me of dgold, vegas, hitman.

I hated the constant cigarettes though.... and the violence..... and the drugs... and the f words...

I guess that's America??????

Crazy stuff.

Is it controversial to say that I don't like him all that much? I like Inglorious Basterds and Django Unchained. Didn't like Kill Bill series much. Pulp Fiction is okay. Reservoir Dogs has some great dialogues.

Do men like Tarantino movies more than women?

Possibly men enjoy them more and women may shy way from the gratuitous violence more than men generally might.

I also think it very much depends on what age you were and what emotional state you were in when you saw the movies. Unquestionably movies make a bigger impact on younger people.

No, it's not controversial, his work can be entertaining but ultimately is mediocre cinema. And women increasingly have less tolerance for him, particularly after his latest film which directs much of its violence quite graphically at women.

I have to say his movies didn't age well to my taste. Used to love them but now they all reek of fakeness. Everything must be super "cool" 100% of the time and detached from real life. It's just tiresome. Tarantino is also always relying on most famous actors and I don't think he's good enough to make something out of trash like really good directors can. Haven't watched his newer films. Tried that Django movie, but couldn't get through more than half. Music just killed it.

Guess Reservoir Dogs would be the best of his opus.

I don't remember constant drugs. They influence the Mia Wallace Vincent Vega arc but outside of that I don't remember much. Good chance when you watch the rest you will notice you are done with the drugs.

"Which one is Trudy? The one with all the #$^! on her face"

"No that's my wife"

There are plenty of cigs and F-Words though. Violence is high but sorta required. The main characters are 2 hitmen, a boxer, a gang boss and the gang bosses wife.

Pulp is my favorite of his works. Resevior dogs at a solid number 2. The others are all kinda close, but I haven't seen hateful, Django, or Hollywood yet.

Early in the movie they keep showing Vincent and Mia using cocaine. Vincent was injecting himself and Mia kept snorting cocaine.

It's definitely a guy thing. And while I can see why he remains teenage boys' favorite auteur I just don't see how any grown-up in the critical community continues to stand by him. I find Inglourious Basterds and Django Unchained his worst films by far for committing the unpardonable sin of making light of fascism and racism, but his latest feature isn't all that better as it's still an execrable revenge fantasy that "subverts" an infamous premeditated murder by a deranged cult. Apparently his love for classic Hollywood pictures and vintage Americana is supposed to be above all that, but given that filmmakers as diverse as Maddin, Cronenberg and Chazelle have managed to pay tribute of late to the same objects of admiration without the same infantile bloodlust the only plausible reason I can think of that somehow induces this blind spot even for usually perceptive critics like A.O. Scott and Justin Chang is how much cash Tarantino generates at the box office. (Case in point: the inordinate amount of recent coverage on our most celebrated movie brat's reportedly rapturous reception at Cannes.) I suppose that's to be expected from such august arbiters of taste as the NY and LA Times, but those toiling at "alternative" outfits should know better.

And even Pulp Fiction, Tarantino's best and most celebrated picture, is full of wisecracks and clever references to said classics but doesn't in the end leave you any wiser or more cognizant of the works referenced let alone the world at large. That, I repeat, is the difference between poseurs like Tarantino (and De Palma, for that matter) and true auteurs like Godard and Rivette that the Hollywood hotshot so badly wants to mimic.

Not controversial at all. I don’t know women who like Tarantino’s films much.

In general I find them a bit too violent and unbelievable. A simple fact - like in Kill Bill, how on earth can a woman carry a huge sword in a passenger flight? I found a lot of loopholes in many of his movies. In general I dislike the glorification of violence.

The unbelievable things you noticed are intentional. And all Tarantino movies fans accept that.
I also dislike glorification of violence, but Tarantino is not quite that, it is the absurdity of violence.

I hear you. As good a director Tarantino is, he is using violence to surprise people and keep them interested. I don't think this is true art and it's easy way to go.
Making a good drama is far difficult and requires better acting, better story etc. I open up Netflix and it's full of murder and investigation series. I binge watched some crime shows in recent weeks and I got sick of it even though I hand-picked the best ones.

Before directing all but Reservoir Dogs QT wrote the screenplay for True Romance. The movie includes one of the best scenes in his collection:

I have put off seeing OUATIH due to some personal physical issues a month ago that has made my work schedule intense in order to make up lost revenue. Maybe I’ll go Monday on a much needed day off.

When I was at high school I didn't get to watch too much TV, and I missed all the X-files shows.
Now one of the TV station is replaying all the X-files shows so I'm watching one episode each day on their on-demand app.

Another show that I enjoy is Primeval from UK.

That's the tack critics have taken to defend his latest feature, but nope, they're still reaching. Compare OUATIH with Hawks' Scarface or Cronenberg's A History of Violence and you'll see the difference between a frat boy's moralizing and a genuine master's refusal to let any of us off the hook.

It's time for us to cut the charade and start calling a spade a spade. Tarantino is at best a talented film geek who likes to shock for the hell of it. He's no artist and there's no need to keep pretending otherwise.

And BTW Scarface was De Palma.

Heh, what is one supposed to say to such an accusation? I've made my case against Tarantino quite clear, I'll just leave it at that. There's something seriously wrong with the status quo when Wikipedians (and presumably the critics and academics referenced) have devoted considerably more time and attention to Pulp Fiction than to A History of Violence and even Scarface, let alone other well-known (Hollywood) masterpieces like Greed, Sunrise, Duck Soup, The Magnificent Ambersons, Johnny Guitar, Barry Lyndon, etc.

And FYI De Palma's Scarface is a remake of the 1932 original. It's actually one of his better works, but still no match for the Hawks.

I loved Kill Bill 1 and Inglorious Bastards. Tried and gave up on Hateful Eight, didn't know what to make of Pulp Fiction and yet to watch his other films.

Tarantino is not a great director in the class of those just mentioned, but he has the benefit of being alive and of being one of the last auteurs.

New Kubricks aren't coming to a cinema near year, but a Tarantino or a Scorcese is.

Ah ok I stand corrected on Scarface thank you!

Still, I’m really not convinced that Tarantino deserves your condescension and near contempt.

I guess you can criticise the formulaic approach and inevitable repetition though the earlier films were very original in their way.

I’m intrigued as to what the ‘cut off’ is about making light of fascism or racism. Is Larry David’s Curb Your Enthusiam a deplorable show for example?

It ain't no big deal. Whilst I like some of his work, he is no Marty and never will be. I think @NonP nailed it. It's basically the critics' quest to find a new great director. Same syndrome when it comes to Nolan imo. I don't get why they're looking so hard when you do have Fincher and Inaritu.

Yes, he also nailed it when he says that he is surprised by how these film festivals also take to him this well.

I have a very different idea about Nolan. I liked his Insomnia back then and realised that the original is better. I did not...I repeat, did not like any batman trilogies. I did not find anything redeeming in the movies. Momento was a bit lost. Inception was better. Didn't watch Dunkirk. That's about it. Innaritu, I really like some of his works - 21 grams, amoros perros, biutiful... Some neat movies there.

@NonP what's your take on Almodovar, another favourite of the festivals?

That was hell of a movie! Viggo is such a brilliant actor and so is Ed Harris. We're also proud of Cronenberg as Canadians.

Let's not forget about Harvey Keitel's acting who helped greatly to Tarantino. It shows how important to work with a good cast.

Carrying the katana on the plane was more a joke than a loophole:).......I love the samurai and Japanese homage, how he included Sonny Chiba in it, how he heard of the 5 6 7 8s and insisted to buy the album from a shop, the Bruce Lee nods; when he makes the characters multilingual. The violence didn’t bother me, it was exxagerated it was comical
