After his performance at the Delray Beach Open, Taylor Fritz will enter the top 5 of the ATP rankings on February 27th. It's the first time an American will occupy a top 5 spot in the ATP rankings since Andy Roddick in 2009.

Mardy Fish reached #7 in 2011, Jack Sock reached #8 in 2017, and John Isner reached #8 in 2018. Taylor Fritz is currently #7 but he will ascend to #5 next week.

For American fans who have been clamoring to see their men excelling at tennis again, this could be another indication that the arrow is pointing up.

Congratulations, Taylor Fritz!

Wow I knew he was going to be top 6 didnt know if he was gonna go top 5. I wonder where he would be if they counted his Wimbledon points.

That’s outstanding - his BH and movement have improved a lot lately while his FH and serves have always been top 5 caliber. I have seen him able to hang in long rallies with the top players lately in a way that he could not do before.

An American to upset Djokovic at Wimbledon?

I hope he enjoys his stay. He won't be there long once his Indian Wells points come off the board.
Hes actually pretty capable to pick up points in Mexico if he plays and having a better run at Miami. And he got no points for Wimbledon last year and made the quarters. Hes in a pretty solid spot right now barring injuries.

My understanding is that #5 Rublev and #6 Nadal are both dropping 500 points and #7 Fritz is only 200 behind those guys. Rublev is playing Doha this week, but that's a 250 so Fritz is about to pass him regardless of Rublev's outcome.

Ya I knew that Nadal was dropping some big points coming up. Did not know that about Rublev.

God I was getting so confused looking at the numbers until I realized the schedule was different this year.

Or was last year the one that was different and now we're back to normal?

If he can't beat Nadal on grass or hard, he's not beating Djokovic. I hate writing that, because I really wanted him to beat Rafa and thought it was bush-league of Rafa to deploy his usual BS only to withdraw anyway after he got the win.

Im assuming you mean Grand Slams cause he did beat Rafa on hard at IW final last year.

How’d Sam do it then? Everyone says he’s a mug.

If speaking of that Wimbledon upset in 2016, Novak sabotaged himself in a game! He challenged a couple calls incorrectly, then Sam actually missed a shot, but Novak out of challenges! A grass court match can come down to one point more than any other surface IMO! This was the beginning of the end for Dokovic after completing his Nole-Slam! He made it to the USO & YEC finals, but wasn't in either match! It took well over another yr. to finally get over whatever was going on behind the scenes! ;):)

He will lose early in Mexico.

I will never understand what the ATP thought they were accomplishing by not awarding ranking points for last year's Wimbledon. A truly unfair and stupid decision.
Me either. I truly will never get it. The ATP/ WTA could sit me down for a week and try and explain their reasoning and I would be like what the **** are you talking about.

Can't forgive him for letting the no-serve-Ned get away at Wimbledon, but still happy to see him moving up. Being strong off both wings with a very good serve and an offensive mindset, it's always a pleasure to watch his game.

What about injured Rafa at WTF?
Jeez I totally forgot about that one. See he beat injured Rafa twice on hard and lost to injured Rafa on grass. I think this shows he is perfectly capable beating injured Rafa on hard. Possibly not capable of beating injured Rafa on grass. Stand by.

Rafa was not injured at WTF so you need to do the permutation again.

Madrid is part of the BS in the schedule. It's a clay court tournament that doesn't play like the other clay courts
What I'm hearing here is a positive. A clay court that doesn't play exactly like the others causing players to have to adapt to different conditions to win. Sounds good to me.

My eye test says Fritz's fitness and conditioning have never been better, and that's got him to where he is. Setting a real good example for the rest of the Americans.

To me, Fritz needs to watch some del Potro matches and learn how to step to his left and unleash on a forehand.

All too often he’s content getting into backhand to backhand rallies, and while his backhand is solid, he needs to take control of the point early, and not relinquish that control. That’s the only way he’ll have a chance against Djoker.

Don’t get me wrong: I root for him to do well, but I want him to dominate the court like he should. His serve & forehand are good enough, but he doesn’t unleash as often as he should IMO.

The idea was to punish the All-England Club for discriminating against Russian players.

But the move didn’t hurt the AEC, because the lack of points didn’t stop anyone from playing. The tournament went on.

The only people hurt were the ATP and WTA players who performed well at the event.

So the end result was the ATP punished itself.

Oh I get ya brother. You are preaching to the choir. If I was on the ATP/ WTA board of directors I would have told them they are all out of their minds and left.
