Taylor Fritz says 'I'm locked in, ready to go' for a big grass-court season. Back to No 4 in world ranking.

Taylor Fritz is the "BOSS" in Stuttgart, wins fifth straight match vs. Alexander Zverev, H2h 8-5

Taylor Fritz kicked off the grass-court season with his first title of the year, knocking out Alexander Zverev, 6-3, 7-6 (0) to lift the BOSS Open trophy in Stuttgart.

Fritz, who wears the clothing brand that also serves as the tournament's title sponsor, was last in the winner’s circle in 2024 when he won a 250-level grass title in Eastbourne. Seeded second in Stuttgart, Fritz weathered a mid-match rain delay to return to the Top 4 and win a fifth straight match against a top seed playing at home in one hour and 24 minutes.

“I’m back,” Fritz cheekily wrote on the camera lens following the victory.

The world No. 7 ended 2024 on a high, reaching finals at the US Open and the ATP Finals to finish the season ranked fourth in the rankings. But aside from a semifinal finish at the Miami Open, Fritz failed to make it past the fourth round at any of the other major or Masters 1000 tournaments, losing in the first round of Roland Garros last month.

I mean, he likes grass and he owns Zverev. Not sure there is much more to it than that. 4th grass title though. Not sure there is anyone on tour now other than Novak with more? What a specialist.
Saw a graphic from one of the slam or ATP media saying there are four players with 4+ grass titles.

Djoker with 8 (I think)
And 3 active players with 4: Mahut, Berrettini, Fritz

I can't help but think he needs to change racquets when watching him play on anything other than grass.

He visually works so hard to produce what looks like a normal rally ball for other top players, and the racquet really doesn't see to do him any favors when he's on the defensive or gets rushed.

A greeting to Zverev's father, Taylor Fritz.
:D

Mahut has played 1 singles match since the COVID pandemic, not sure if I would count him as an active player.
Yeah I mean.
It said active players grass court titles I was assuming most were doubles, or at least the thing keeping him active status was doubles.

He is a w*nker and i hope and expect he will go out in1st week at SW19.

Insanely embarrassing for Zverev to lose 5 straight for this dude given the just absolutely monstrous gap in talent between them. So sad for the sport that these two dudes are going to have their own quarters at Wimbledon. Good god what has grass tennis become.

How ungracious. You should be more appreciative of Taylor's exquisite craft which he dedicates so generously to the ABZ cause.

This is like Djokovic being owned by Murray, his worse counterpart talent-wise

He's beaten Zverev 5 consecutive times now, thank you Taylor Fritz, keep beating Zverev, do fly back to Germany in '26 and just keep showing up wherever Zverev goes lol

Big loss for Fritz. Now Draper can claim the #4 seed for Wimbledon by making the semis in Queen's (he needs to beat Popyrin, and then either Evans or Nakashima to make the semis).

Being #4 versus #5 might not matter that much to Djokovic; after all, Djokovic doesn't gain much by reaching the semis only to lose rather than losing in the quarters. But it's a meaningful difference for both Fritz and Draper, as both have only made one slam semi in their whole career and never at Wimbledon. Indeed, Draper has only made one slam quarter-final in his whole career. Fritz has made five, but he's had four more years' worth of opportunities.

Being #4 seed means: a) definitely no Alcaraz or Sinner in the QFs, b) a 25% chance of drawing Djokovic in the QFs, but a 75% chance of drawing the other of Fritz/Draper, Musetti (#7 seed at Wimbledon), or Rune/Meddy (either Rune or Meddy will be #8 seed).

Being #5 seed means: a) a 50% chance of drawing either Alcaraz or Sinner in the QFs, b) definitely no Djokovic in the QFs, c) a 50% chance of drawing either Zverev (#3 seed at Wimbledon) or the other of Fritz/Draper.

N.B. While Fritz will be either #4 or #5 at Wimbledon, Draper could be #4, #5, or #6. He's still below Djokovic in next week's rankings, too.

yeah he's a real scumbag

yeah he's a real scumbag

This was a nice gesture.

Watching him today for the first time in a while, I found it pretty amazing that he's only two spots below Alcaraz in the rankings. The difference between them seems like it would be a skill level (e.g. 7.0 to 7.5, for example) on the USTA rating scale. Of course, he was tired from the Zverev match on Sunday - and he did look solid in the highlights of that (which was all I saw).

Didnt have to go public about it did he. Reinforces my point tbh

That may be true. But by the same token, I'm positive that the only reason some Djokovic fans like Fritz is because he's Djokovic's pigeon to the extreme.
The desperation of some Djokovic fans is pure gold lol. Nadal did such a number on them they think every tennis related opinion of Nadal fans has to do with the Goatdal. Rafa owns a massive amount of real estate it seems in a particular fanbase's heads.
Those with some ITK stuff know what a prize tw*t Fritz is, similar to Tiafoe.
