Taylor Fritz will beat Novak Djokovic later today.

I'm calling this now.

In fact, I've never been so sure of anything else before in my entire life.

I've just gone "all-in" on Fritz at 10/3 (4.33) at the bookies. I think the bookmakers must have been smoking some prohibited substances to offer those kind of generous odds.

Let's be real here: Novak is done. Since the demolition at the Olympics, and subsequent mauling from the Russian bear at the US Open, Djokovic has been a shadow of his former self.

Couple that with the fact that the 24-year-old American protagonist has shown impressive form thus far in Paris, with an eye-catching win over the in-form Brit, Cameron "Cam" Norrie, to add to the ruthless dispatchment of Rublev in the previous round.

Don't say that I didn't warn you.

So... do we ignore the fact Djokovic beat in form Zverev and Berrettini during USO or do we modify the narration slightly? He can lose today, because Fritz has been causing him some problems in AO/Rome and I'd say that those are good odds to bet on Fritz, but that's about it.

There is a thread like this one literally before all of Djokovic's matches, lol. Even in USO shortly after the draw there was already one that Brooksby would beat him. Sure, if we say that after every matches, you'll be correct every once in a while. Even a broken clock is right twice a day. :)

In the last 2 masters, Fritz beat Zverev, Berrettini, Sinner, Norrie and Rublev, all of them are fighting for WTF and 4 of these 5 lost in straight against him. Djokovic is still rusty and it's hard to say if he's fully invested in this Masters. At this point I'd say 65-35 Djokovic and it'll be the same if he faces Hurkacz in Semi so yeah, the upset is clearly possible here. Honestly if he faces Medvedev or Zverev in final, I doubt I'll put Djokovic as the favorite unless he wins his next 2 matches comfortably.

But even if he loses in straight set today against Fritz, it doesn't mean he is "done". If you think so, you clearly haven't learnt the lesson from last year. He got slapped in FO final. Then he lost 6-1 6-2 against Sonego in Vienna, and we all know what happened after that. Even if he is double baggeled thrice in Turin next week, it won't mean anything regarding next year's Grand slams...

Smart bet, I always thought he was the next big thing from the US, but he lays an egg quite very often. 50-50 is what I would say. If Djoker is just easing back and seems like throwing a bone to a younger player, sure!

don't worry just trolling

@Tennisfan339 I saw enough from the Fucsovics match to assure me that any post-CYGS chase hangover is mostly gone. It's just normal late season 2 months off rust and the inexorable fact that the guy is now 34 and can't chase down ever single shot from the baseline. But he still looks basically the same. And as you said, whatever the guy does from December-January is clearly working, he shows up in Melbourne in top form nearly every single year dating back to 2014 or so.

That being said Fritz is holding his serve and making his FH a real weapon and will have analyzed that loss at the AO a hundred times at least.

I really don't think Novak is 4.5 games (6-4, 6-3 for example) better than Fritz.

It's a psychological thing.

We all saw what happened to Nole during his last confrontation with this kind of issue.

I think that his psyche is now so adapted to visualising himself as indomitable, that he has a problem with self-belief as he suffers the vagaries of age and misfortune.

I like Fritz and he is certainly in a good form lately. I still would not bet against Djokovic vs anyone on the tour at the moment. Djokovic has got this... It should be a nice match.

Eh, Taylor had his chances at the AO. On a good day, Taylor can push the best. The question is, will today be a good day?

What issue?

I don't think that his mentality needs to change for the results to change, but his rivals'. Opponents aside, the reasons for his losses in Tokyo and New York I see in his physique, not his psyche.

Hope you didn't bet too much OP. Looks like Fritz is losing this one in straight sets, unless he stages a massive comeback.

6-4, 6-3 Djokovic and he played Fritz’s aggressive style against Fritz! Fritz totally out of the match after 1set! :)

Truly delusional "hatahs" have a need to "stay the course" of trying to diminish his accomplishments and future hoping it'll all be over soon! It's pathetic! :-D:unsure::happydevil:

That's the least impressive first pump ever. Very Tim.

Fist pumping only got started in the mid 80's with Lendl, Navratilova, and a couple others! Normally tennis players don't show much of anything emotional; esp. when winning a significant point! The exact opposite now with a real need to show up the opponent which is so classless IMO! Applaudig yourself when there's a double fault really shows what I mean! :notworthy::cautious::rolleyes::happydevil:
