Taylor Made Fix For Men's Tennis On The Fritz!

Going for the thread bumpity to celebrate Fritz , Frances ( @Sysyphus has to bump his Big Foe thread) and Sebbie making 3R.

Fritz went in for a knee fix after RG and returned in record rehab time with a contrasting black (medical approved) leg sleeve. Big test vs Zedraffe there in 3R. It’s a rematch in their h2h (Zedraffe 2R Wimby’18 in a comeback after a darkness induced sleepover)

Tiafoe is on court right now and is down a break in the first set as Khachanov gained a set point at 5-3. Make that down a set now as KK closes it out.

Korda has Dangerous Dan Evans later today. Could be a cracker!

All in all it’s pretty cool to have 3 U.S. youngsters in R32. Break out the Bowie classic!

Tiafoe out in 3 against KK, very disappointing performance. I'm afraid the other two will suffer similar fates, though I'm hoping they do better

I give Sebbie the best chance now.

Khachanov level was solid to take advantage of Tiafoe and dispatch him in three. I have no idea how he hits a single FH on grass with that grip.

Fritzie has been slumping since Wimby and his luck went from bad to worse yesterday in his loss to Duckworth in 1R Toronto (6&3). He says he was having heart arrhythmia symptoms during the second set. Hopefully it was just a heat related one off issue but he should have that checked out to avoid another event. Both Cincinnati and Flushing are known for their trying conditions.

Thread bumpity. Nice run to the IW SFs with well earned upsets of two Forza Azzurri in the Italian vanguard and then an epic comeback vs Zedraffe. Unfortunately, Basil Fawlty proved to be his Kryptonite for the second time this year in a SF (Doha).

In winning 2022 Indian Wells, Fritz becomes:

1. The first American man to win this event since Agassi back in 2001 (21 years ago).
2. The first native-born Californian to win his state's biggest title.
3. One of only 21 active players to win at least one Masters 1000 title.
4. One of only 3 active American players to win at least one Masters 1000 title (along with Isner and Sock).
5. One of only 6 players to beat Nadal in a Masters 1000 final (along with Federer, Djokovic, Murray, Nalbandian, Davydenko).

Rafa looks disoriented, haggard but most definitely angry, vaguely similar to Muzziah after a Joe Kovic victory in one of those AO finals. I think it was 2015 when he gave Joe the ultimate twin Dunblane Daggers stare down during the trophy celebration.

The streak is up to 8 matches. NCH #12 in live rankings; #3 in The Race.

Winning is contagious; here’s a list of other Americans catching the bug:

Tiafoe tied his career high at #29; Tommy Paul is at NCH #34; Jenson Brooksby is at NCH #36. Only Paul is out in Miami (to Fritz).

Taylor is fixing American tennis with all this winning. Now he’s in another M1K QF, the second this year. The first led to the IW title. He also has made 2 QFs at 250s, R16 at AO, Acapulco and Miami. 20-6 for the year and all but one of the losses went to a decisive set.

Yes, so did he look like he was healthy in the match? Last time I watched him play it was painful - he was gimping around a lot.
Didn’t see it live but he looked decent in highlights vs Bublik. Big 1st serve % (Bublik amazed!) and a crafty topspin lob winner.

Certainly better than his last two lowlights in Rosmalen and QC. He was still having issues with a foot injury from clay.

Fritz into the Eastbourne finals, facing Maxime "Brit-slayer" Cressy. Both had a three set semifinals match, Cressy beating Daper 7-6(5) 6-7(2) 6-3, and Fritz beating De Minaur 6-1 6-7(5) 6-3. The crowd got their money's worth!

Highlights from both semis:

Fritzie takes it! Wins Eastbourne by beating Cressy in another tiebreak filled match: 6-2 6-7(4) 7-6(4). Let's hope he has some energy left in the tank for Wimbledon.

LOL I just find it funny how people keep dismissing this guy. Especially at IW.
Funny that I’ve watched the guy for 8 years since the juniors battles with Paul at slams and Rublev at the Chengdu ITF Junior Masters, stand behind him, know his record at most tournaments, but don’t get ahead of myself about his chances anymore because he has a long history of throwing in a stinker when least expected. Until last year he had won just one title at ATP level. That’s some blatant underachievement for his skill set.

Again he made the semis two years ago at IW and won last year. People underestimating him here are being silly. He plays really well here.
