TECNIFIBRE ICE CODE

I want to know the stiffness rating of this string. TW has a rating of 186 when you list in the string review section but it comes out as Kirshbaum Explosive Speed 1.25 when dialing in Tecnifibre Ice Code 1.30. Can anyone in TW confirm it's the Ice Code and not the Explosive Speed 1.25? Has anyone played with this string yet? White strings tend to be softer than any other colored strings in the market. Would like to confirm this thought from anybody in this forum who has used the Ice code. Hope to hear from you all!

Give us a couple weeks ;) It's being edited at the moment, hoping to get it up in the next 2 weeks!

Thanks for the response Michelle! Do you have the stiffness rating for the Ice Code 1.25? Im planning to buy some strings for my teen daughter but would love to know how stiff it is because of past shoulder issues.

Yes, stiffness rating and tension maintenance please! Tell the tech guy to prioritize the 1.25m for the compare strings tool :)

@TW Staff, Michelle, I love Hyper-G and prefer to restring after every 8 hours of play.
Is there any compelling reason to consider Ice Code when it's a little more expensive.

+1 I've been eyeing Ice Code as a potential replacement for Tour Bite and Hyper G. Willing to go away from shaped if snapback really is as good as they are claiming for Ice Code, and more consistent stringbed and less notching. And tension maintenance close to Hyper G

Ahhh these are great questions @Karma Tennis & @Ethan0607 -- it's hard for me to say as I don't know what tension you guys are using or what racquets and what you specifically like best about Hyper G/Tour Bite. Personally, I think it is worth trying!

I literally kept waiting for the magic to end with this string and it just didn't! I do have to say, with my higher tension, I did not experience the same pocketing sensation that others have mentioned (Chris, Sean), but that is not what I am looking for in my strings :) Right now, I continue to say it really allowed me to hit out confidently and that has been a huge part of why I am loving this string. I know I said it in the video, but literally felt like I could hit big and keep ramping up the pace and felt dialed in and in control of the court. You can't put a price on that confidence :)

Also...a little birdy told me to stay tuned to our Happy Hour this coming Wednesday...there might be a deal you won't be able to pass up!

I'm curious to see how playability is at week two and after, which is most important for me and other rec players that don't want to be paying for stringing every week.

Ahhh sorry! I didn't see it!

Head Hawk gets a bit mushy in my opinion and doesn't hold tension as well. Although the lab numbers put it as pretty similar.

The most recent times I've hit with Hawk, it hasn't been at my desired tension either, so I can't give it a fair comparison.

Sorry about that,

Thank you for the feedback Michelle. I will just try the Ice Code with my next string job.

How does this compare to Yonex Poly Tour Pro? I use it as a cross for gut/multi mains since I feel it has great playability duration (so it stays playable for longer with the mains), but I also like the comfort/soft feel as well.

This new Ice Code is similar price. Sounds really tempting if it plays similarly but adds more spin.

Thanks!

Sorry about any confusion -- our string finder data base has the Tecnifibre ICE CODE specs correct for 1.30/16g (we're having technicaly difficulties with the Xplosive Speed specs, but it is NOT as stiff as Ice Code).

Not sure we will be able to get 1.25 g done anytime soon, but hopefully the 1.30 info will help you get a better idea!

Stiffness is 221

I have played with the Ice Code (1.25 mm.) in my customized TFight 300 XTC yesterday and I was really impressed by the performance and playability of this string.
I normally use to play with Black Code 4S, which is my current favorite string after many trials with several shaped and round poly strings, but after my test session of yesterday I'm seriously considering to switch to the Ice Code.
The Ice Code impressed me the most with its very predictable and controlled response. Furthermore I experienced a bit higher powerlevel compared to the Black Code 4S but I was fully able to hit heavy groundstrokes without the fear that I should overhit with balls flying behind the lines.

Next week I will give it a try in my other TFight 305 XTC frames which have some more swingweight and mass, and ofcourse a more dense string pattern (18x19 vs 16x19 in the 300 XTC).
I will post my following experiences here.

Just back from my weekly saturday training session and I feel even more confident about the Ice code as I felt yesterday after my first hitting session with it.
The session of today made it possible for me to get more detailed impressions about the playability of the Ice Code and I'm sure that I will switch to it.
The Ice Code is strung at 25/24 kg in my TFight 300 XTC and on this tension it feels incredibly controlled and balanced without feeling firm or harsh.
Although the Ice Code seems like a reasonably firm string on first feel, it softens up with an almost silky soft feel when the ball sinks into the stringbed
In the past I've tried several round poly strings in the TFight 300 XTC but the Ice Code gives me the best experience so far in this frame.
The feel of this string looks like some blend of Yonex Poly Tour Pro and Luxilon Alu Power Ice Blue version. Alu Power Ice Blue was my favorite string for a reasonable long time but caused serious shoulder injury (something I unfortunately will get after heavy hitting sesions with Alu Power)

Besides of the good playability it also looks great in the TFight XTC i.m.o.

According to marketing and some reviews the ice code should have extraordinary power and pocketing. However according to twu data, all atributes of the ice code 1.30 are kind of middle of the road. So i m not eager to try because it is not a cheap string.

Please do not get wrong impressions by only just looking to some specs in the TWU database because in this case it could gives you a complete misleading interpretation about the playability of the Ice Code.
I can assure that Michelle's review about the Ice Code is spot on i.m.o. so it's definitely worth to give this string a serious try !
I have played around 7 hours now with it and all I can say is that it plays amazingly well and definitely can compete with strings like Luxilon Alu Power.
Tension maintenance is also very good comparing to Alu Power so I think that the Ice Code is definitely worth its price....

How does it compare to tension maintenance/playability of 4G? I'm looking for strings that can last 10+ hours, which is rare for polys. I wish the Compare Strings Tool had data for the 1.25m version.

If this string has such great tension maintenance / playability, wouldn't it make a good poly cross in a gut/poly hybrid? According to TWU, it's not one of the slippier strings though...

I can't tell you how it compares to the tension maintenance of Luxilon 4G (which is obviously one the strongest points of this string), but if I have to choose between both strings in terms of control, feel, touch, and not to forget arm/shoulder sensitivity I will definitely choose Ice Code.

Any deals expected for Europe?

We will ask and try and get something for you guys!

And as far as tension maintenance, I would say it's right up there (just based on personal experience, not lab results or anything like that). Personally, I much prefer it over 4G.

I am the Hitting Partner & Stringer of JeanF. The Tecnifibre Ice Code strings up very easy. It don't notches and it's very easy to weave.
Don't pull knots to hard or it might snap. I heard that from other stringers. From stringing, I found that it has quite a unique feel it's down the middle at stringing feel between Luxilon Alu Power and Luxilon 4G. Its feels stiff at first but it doesn't lose the sound or hear death. A string that hears death during stringing was Luxilon 4G. The Ice Code does make a great sound during stringing even if it was stiff but it was very responsive. It is a kind of magic that I have not seen yet even tough I strung around 5000 frames in 3 years ;).

Now it's up too the technical data. I strung up JeanF's racket the Tecnifibre 300XTC 16x19 with an ATW-Pattern (2-knots), Thursday 23 may at 25/24kg (55/53lbs) and it measured 34DT on a ERT-300. Today I measured the DT again and it was 31DT. So it lost only 3DT in 8 days that is exceptional because the Ice Code lost 1DT in 1 hour after stringing. Today I strung JeanF's Tecnifibre 305XTC 18x19 with an ATW-Pattern (2knots) at 24/23kg (53/51lbs) and it measured 35DT on a ERT-300.

I strung my own 4 Vcore Pro's 97 310 Customized with Tecnifibre Ice Code at 25/24kg (55/53lbs) with power pads (4-knots). The DT was 36.
The knot I use is the Wilson Pro Knot and I did string on International Tennis Tournaments

The unstrung specs of my rackets are:

337,4 Gram
315 Swingweight
30,7cm Balance

Note: it is measured on a Head Tuning Centre that I use for customizing. The rackets are measured with a Leather grip on them and without an overgrip&strings so unstrung specs. I use lead under the bumper guard and at 3&9 + I use silicones in the handles of my frames.

The string I use normally is Solinco Hyper G 16L at 24/23kg. But I have tested a lot of strings the last year like Yonex SP9 & SP9N later known as Poly Tour Strike, Smart, Cyclone, 4G, Element, Alu Power (colors & purple), Ytex Quadro twist & Square-X, Solinco Confidential 2.0, HyperG & Tour Bite, All Grapplesnake offerings, Kirschbaum offerings, Signum Pro offerings, RPM Blast & Rough, Pro Hurricane tour. Too name a few ;)

I will play tonight with the Tecnifibre Ice Code and I am happy to share my findings!

Compared to Solinco tour bite it has less spin, control, pocketing. No go for me.

Can you compare the Ice Code 1.25 with Luxilon Alu Power Ice Blue?

I have played with Alu Power Ice Blue for several weeks and I liked the good playability of it.
It was providing me lots of control and good feel, but unfortunately my shoulder showed some serious upcoming injury problems after several hard hitting sessions of 2 hours or more.
In the past I experienced the same shoulder problems with the regular grey Alu Power version and although the Ice Blue version feels definitely less firm I even felt the same pain in my shoulder.

Comparing to Alu Power Ice blue the Ice Code give a more firm feel and direct response due to the relatively short dwell time of the stringbed.
Furthermore Ice Code feel less muted and more lively than Alu power Ice Blue.
Control of this string is comparable with Alu Power Ice Blue but the tension maintenance is by far better; I've played 9 hours so far with it and the playability is still the same as the first hitting hours.
Besides the mentioned positive points it also has some negative points to me and one of them is definitely the fact that it already caused serious shoulder and arm pain to me and that was not something I was expecting....
Due to the current shoulder pain I recently decided to cut it out of my frames and switched back to Black Code 4S which gave me never arm or shoulder injury issues so far.

I prefer a soft comfortable stringbed and in the past have not liked poly strings. But lately I’ve been using poly in my 18x19 racket at low tension and love it. I have used Stringway’s online tension advisor and generally use a DT of 28 but I’ve been thinking about adjusting it lower just to play around with it. With a poly string I find I can adjust the tension lower and still not have the strings move much when I do. I’ve been using Black Code 4S 17 and just got a reel of Ice Code 17 to try out. I think I like it better than the BC4S especially the color because I like white string. So far I’ve only hit with it for a few hours and it gets better every time I go out.

I probably am not a person that should be playing with a poly string because I don’t break strings anymore. But I like soft, powerful, spin friendly strings. My main priority is I don’t want to look down at crooked strings. Before I make this my favorite string I’ll have to play around with tensions more but it is looking good so far.

Played my first couple hours with 17 gauge Ice Code on my 14x18 Prince Phantom 93P and I am thoroughly impressed.

My go-to for this racquet has been Hyper G. I like gut/poly setups but I could not justify this hybrid with how fast the racquet breaks strings.

I won't pretend to know what exactly happens to the stringbed when I hit with the different setups, but I could at least share how it "feels" for me.

Hyper G typically lasts me a good 7-8 hours on the 14x18 93P, and the reason why I like it is because the perception is that I get that extra pop from the "crisp" feel without feeling overly stiff. Whereas something like Max Power rough can feel like it doesn't produce as much power but it seems like it gets a bit better control while feeling a bit stiffer than Hyper G.

I experimented a little bit with Black Code 4S because it looked like a black, slightly softer version of Hyper G that could perhaps have more spin potential. I liked 4S a lot as well because of the pocketing feel, but it felt a little underpowered, which wasn't necessarily a bad thing. However, it broke consistently at the 4-5 hour mark. So 4S was a no go.

Ice Code doesn't have the crispness of Hyper G, but it does not feel underpowered because there is so much of the pocketing feel which gives the perception of power, so this may be more of an apples/oranges preference. Ice Code feels soft without being mushy, and if it is true that it retains this characteristic until it breaks, I am going to switch to this string and buy a reel. By comparison, Black Code 4S was soft as well, but for me it started to feel a bit too mushy towards the end.

Spin production, I can't say much because my racquet string pattern provides more than enough spin potential so I was getting plenty of it with Ice Code.

Not going to make any wild claims when comparing Ice Code to gut/poly, it is a polyester and plays like a polyester for sure, but at the very least, if we were to isolate just the pocketing feel characteristic, I could confidently say that it comes pretty close to the gut/poly setups I've used in the past. That's good enough for me to not miss playing gut/poly, especially if I could get a solid 7-8 hours or more with it. So we'll see in the next couple weeks how long it lasts and if it does retain the "magic," I hope this is the case!

Edit: I strung up Ice code at 50lbs, and I usually strung up Hyper G at 48 lbs while recently going up to 50.

I have tested Technifibre Ice Code 1,25mm at 55/53lbs for about 1,5week in my Yonex VCORE Pro 97 Customized.

There where a couple of things to like. Like the tension maintenance and durability but overall I didn't like this poly not even a little.
It felt super overpowered, not enough spin and the sound I didn't like. It was not a poly for me. I attack with heavy spin from behind the baseline and I love to play in the court too finish the points up at the net. I could not find the feel. I think it is meant for more flat hitters since the string has less dwelltime.

Since the price is €119 euro each Reel. I am staying with Yonex Poly Tour Pro Yellow 1,25mm which is max €75 a Reel. The PTP gives me low powered response with more than enough spin. It is very soft on my arm it feels like I am hitting with a pillow. It has good feel, good durability and good tension maintenance.

In my opinion Yonex Poly Tour Pro Yellow 1,25mm is the better string!

Did some of you playtest this string and can tell how Ice Code performed? How did you find the level of spin?

Spin probably won't be the highlight feature of hitting with this string, but I don't feel like I lost out on anything in the spin department with Ice Code compared to Hyper G. One of the competing tennis retailers wrote a review of this string saying it was powerful, but I would agree more with the TW reviews that it's a fantastic control string with great feel. Perhaps it feels powerful because of the pocketing effect, but for me I think the control I get from the string subconsciously frees me a bit more to take bigger cuts at the ball, which also affects how much spin I can produce. I do think, however, there are other strings out there are better for straight up spin potential.

Michelle,
I know this is an older post from you. I am curious about the number of hours you got out of Ice Code when you used it? I know you said three weeks of time but how many court hours? I play about 4-6 hours a week so that is what one item I try to base my strings on, hours of play before having to cut it out.
Thank you.
