Tecnifibre Spinfire 17...your thoughts?

Legend
I just purchased a few set of the Spinfire and am ready to try experimenting with it. I have used Babolat Ballistic Polymono, BB Alu Fluoro, Gosen Polylon 17, and now the Gosen Polylon Ice 17.

The Polymono was okay as a full-set, yet didn't wow me. The Gosen poly strings just flat out didn't play with any life in a full-set, yet work somewhat well within a hybrid to me. Of all the strings I have sampled, the Fluoro was simply the best in both the full-set and hybrid.

So I'm here with some Spinfire and wanting to string it up and play around with tensions and set-ups. For any of you that have used in in a full-set or hybrid, I'd like to hear your feedback on which you preferred.

Also using Tecnifibre 320's with the 16x20 pattern. I have some Wilson Reflection 16, Gosen OG Sheep Micro, Tecnifibre synthetic 16, Babolat Super fineplay16, and Forten tournament nylon around the house.

All input welcome. Thanks in advance!

Thanks in advance!

i think you'll find it loses tension fairly quickly and doesn't have a lot of "playability". i would put it ahead of polymono but behind the newer generation poly's like cyberflash, big ace, etc.

^^^very true...loses tension very easily...definately not the best technifibre string..try pro red code its the best string ever..i love it

haha the customers that arent that good and are just recreational like it alot it seems when i string their racquets with it...but if you are hitting hard with spin and stuff it will lose tension quick and alot of it..but it wont hurt your arm thats one of the few posotives

small world. i picked up a few packages of spinfire 17 for my tfight 320's. it was cheap and i was curious. i'll let you know when i string em up. i'm not expecting much but curious to see what you get for $5 or whatever it was i paid for em.

I had reels of this stuff because it seemed quite cheap. My feelings about it:

1. It is very stiff initially, then loses tension really quickly and never has a chance to stabilize. This is a common trait if earlier generation polys.
2. It is a pain to string and seems to be more prone to kinking compared to newer generation polys.

I have stopped carrying it and only use the remainder as a cross for full poly hybrids.

Thanks, not going to put any in until I hear your review/thoughts.

thanks for the input jonolau. i'll give em a shot after my pro hurricane tours give out. i'm guessing i'll hate em but i figured what the heck. they're almost the same price as a can of tennis balls.

No worries tfm. I actually liked Spinfire a lot freshly strung, and could blast balls hard and fast without worry of them going long. Then the tension drops like a brick in the sea ....

I strung up a hybrid for a customer last night with the Spinfire in the mains and Wilson Reflection 16 in the crosses. Took the remaining half of each set and threw it into my 320 last night as well to give it a whirl.

I actually found the Spinfire to be a breeze to string as it is somewhat softer and more pliable than other poly's I've strung with in the past. I assume it may have a little more resemblance to synth gut because of this.

I'm heading out in an hour to hit for an hour then off to a doubles tournament. I'll leave some of my thoughts when I return tonight especially for TFM1973 upon returning as you have the same stick and string in question.

I actually liked the combination I used:

Spinfire in the mains.
Wilson Reflection in the crosses.

Both the customer I strung one up for and myself liked the overall feedback we got from this hybrid. We played a doubled tournament together yesterday and the tension seemed to hold up quite well through four matches. Keep in mind though, it was doubles and the amount of hitting is nothing like what I go through in singles.

In singles, I can go through a full set of Gosen Polylon Ice and have it moving around like Nylon within about an hour of hitting and have to cut it out. I have yet to try this new hybrid in singles play or just a good long hit and see the longevity of this hybrid combination.

I found great feel and touch in this hybrid. I also found incredible pop on my serves throughout the day. The combination did start to soften up in the last two matches but I never felt that the strings had completely gone dead.

Indoor tournament with temps comfortable at 72 and so there were no outside factors such as really cold or hot temps. I could not quite swing out quite as much as with a stiffer poly such as a Luxilon or Polylon Ice. I did though, feel that there was much greater feel with contact of the ball and stringbed throughout the day.

After many above gave such horrific reviews of this string, I was weary of playing with it, but since my partner and customer wanted it in his stick, I threw in the remaining halves of string and thought what the heck. I was glad that I did and played with confidence with the hybrid.

I will have to go out though, and really give it a good two hour hit/practice session to see how this string combination holds up under severe constant hitting from the baseline.

I know a lot of members want strings to last for months, but as a stringer, I really don't care if a string combination does not last more than one match as I would rather have confidence in my equipment and know that I can restring every night during a tournament.

Pro's go through one or two sticks per set and I still don't see why we here as members think that string combinations should last for months and complain when a string combination does not last that long.

I'll offer more thoughts about this combination after a good hit or singles match later. Thanks for all the thoughts above. Some good and some bad, but for me--this was a great doubles combination/hybrid for indoor play.

^^^ WRT poly (any poly), i cut them out after 20 hours max. by then the string has lost its resiliency and is dead.

Pretty amazing how when a poly dies, it just dies instantly. I can get about 10-15 hours of doubles out of a poly, but a good two hours hitting from the baseline one on one on a hot day in the south here and I cut them out regardless of what poly is in there.

I like the way it plays, but it does lose tension quickly. I restring every couple weeks, so I find it inexpensive. It gives me more feel on volleys than stiffer polys.

It is softer than most other polys I've played, and slightly more powerful. I still get reasonable spin, but the strings definitely move more than they do on the stiffer polys I've used (SP roly poly, Luxilon BB ALU, and some others I can't think of at the moment). With roly poly I never had to adjust the strings, and after a single set with Spinfire, I do.

For the money it's a good poly. If you're picky and have money to burn there of course are better options as with just about anything.

i had two racquets strung up with tecnifibre spinfire at 52 pounds.

The Good: fairly soft and comfortable. thought it had a good bit more spin than my regular pro hurricane tour. for the first hour and a half i thought this was a real bargain and a winning string.

The Bad: sometime after an hour and a half of heavy hitting i noticed some balls start to just dive into the bottom of the net. and then i must've tried compensating and hitting balls into the fence. and every shot after that was like a box of chocolates - you never know what you're gonna get. the tension just literally died. felt like if i bought a racquet at a garage sale and has been sitting in someone's closet for 20 years. completely unplayable after an hour and a half for me. cut it out already.

probably the worst $5 ever spent on string. lots of better strings for the same price or just a few bucks more. if you can live with an hour and a half of pretty decent poly - go for it. i don't have the budget to restring on an hourly basis.
