just wondering how many of you lot used this string? if so did you like/dislike it,

how would you recommend this strings compared to other strings like:
black code, signam tornado pro, barb wire, tour bite, black code etc. is it better to use as a full bed or just either on mains/crosses?

would you say this is worth its price as its expensve for 12m

Just to be brutallly honest, I think these strings are really stiff and harsh, offer little spin, and take forever to break in. I had them strung at 55 pounds in a heavily lead liquidmetal radical. I know some people will blast me for this, but that was my feeling about it.

On the other hand, I think tecnifibre black code strings are the best on the market from what I've tried. They're soft, grip the ball well, hold tension very well for a polyester, and add confidence unlike many other strings.

Overpriced, overpowered and overated. After an initial settling in period, tension loss falls off a cliff making the string even more crazily overpowered.

First off I find it odd that you are wanting a comparison between it and polys. It is a very good string that mainly exels as a hybrid in either the crosses or mains. With that being said, it is over priced. Similar strings that I believe to be better are Weiss Cannon Explosiv, Mantis Comfort Synthetic, and IsoSpeed Control/Professional.

Like reesespiecestennis stated, black code is an exeptional string (maybe the subconscious reason you listed it twice). I think many people would consider blackcode to be the benchmark string for comparison when it comes to soft polys. Though it is out of stock most places, Cyclone would be simlar to BC but much cheaper.

P.S. very nice screen name.

Have not tried Back Code.....Love Tornado! Did not like X-One Biphase either. Give Mantis- Power Synthetic a try in the crosses with poly's you have listed.

I do not think it's fair to compare Biphase 17 to other poly strings as each offers better characteristics than the other. It should be compared to other multis.

It does have some limitations such as initial stiffness but after than, it plays well for about 7 to 8 hours until it starts to fray and gain a lot of power and tension drops.

I have tested many multis such as Xcel Power, NRG2, Quasi Gut, etc... and I think this is one of the best out there. It is soft on the arm, provides good power, and is a crisp string.

Not my favorite multifilament... i've been playing around with some of Gamma's and they aren't bad, especially if you can buy them at a discounted price

the reason why i was comparing it to ploy's just to know if its better to hybrid this string, or is it good enough for a full bed

ive contacted both and got a dull reply just saying we dont supply his to europe - tennisware said you have to buy it from america then pay extra for delivery which will be £35 - hell no

Absolutely depends on the racquet (for me). I usually string my racquets with a half-decent 17 ga. syn. gut, but I found X-1 Biphase (17g) to work really well in a couple of flexible, especially "dead" racquets, including the TW edition of the Donnay Pro One.

Generally, I can't make multi's work for me in any racquet with even moderate stiffness, since they're just too lively for me.

String the X-1 up at 65, I promise it won't feel too lively.

I think X-1 is a good multi, more on the crisper/control side as opposed to the playability/comfort side of the multi range. It doesn't feel like a PU infused, natural gut type string like NRG2 or Quasi gut. The main problem with it is its unpredictable, on big swings get you a lot of pop, off-balance or shorter swings get you nothing, and its feel/response change too much over the course of its life. I think I prefer NRG2 and Quasi Gut because once they settle in they pretty much play the same until they break.

I haven't tried x-1 but I do hybrid other multi's with poly's. I use LaSer Supreme, Tecnifibre NRG2, LaSer Super Natural Gut and others. You will see a drastic difference depending on if you put the poly or the multi in the mains.

Poly mains with multi cross will give more control and durability.

Multi mains with poly cross will give more power, feel and a little less durability.

I think multi mains is better for volleying and touch shots with poly mains better for power ground strokes.

My opinion is that multi mains with poly crosses offers better durability that all multi.

i placed a full bed of x1 in my volkl strung at 65#. the tension is holding well after 3 hours playing with it. it is beginning to fray though. it is definitely a crisper multi, not soft/mushy like other multi's can be. it should not be compared with a poly whatsoever because you are simply not going to get the same spin action from x1 as you will from a good poly string. the string offers nice pop and plays well at net.

my opinion overall is that this is a very decent string but not for the price of $16. even though it is advertised to play like natty gut, it doesn't. i had natty gut (klip legend) strung up in an identical racquet and the gut felt way better. GUT ROCKS! ~em em~ x1 is a decent string though as it performs okay in every area but not outstanding in any. i will not be buying anymore.

I don't think you can beat natural gut for performance but most people here can't or don't want to pay the price for natural gut. There are cheaper variants of natural gut and for those who can live with their downside mainly harder to string and possible breaking while sitting in a bag, that's fine.

Biphase X1 is to me the best multi among the numerous multis I have tested. I look for a string that offers good power, crisp feel, and decent control until tension loss or fraying occurs. Given the recent price jump, the string is no longer a good value but still a good string. I would say NRG2 would be one to consider.

Other strings such as Babolat Xcel and Wilson Kgut cost more and to me, are not as good a value.

+2 for that. Had great expectations followed by great dissapointment. I'm def a control guy and still cant find any multi to compare to RIP control, spin and muted feel.

I havn't used it but I have heard good things about it. Seems like a good cross string to me. Overpriced though :(

Try Mantis Comfort Synthetic (best control string I've ever used) or Head Intellitour. Both offer a more muted feel and better control than RIP but you have to sacrifice that beautiful spin the RIP creates. The Mantis only gives me about 8 sets so durability is another negative.

I have used techni 17g for year now on Dunlop 4d 300 tour strung at 58lb. It looses tention a bit after 4 hours of play. It gives good power, good control but poor on spin but feel is good overall. Is there something better in the same range that can give me good spin also?

How about Tourna Quasi-Gut? How's its spin potential and ball pocketing?

I did not particular like this string mainly due to the lack of crispness and lack of power. I can't really tell about spin potential as I am a flat hitter. Others on the forum did mention it being a decent string.

Between Excel and NXT which do you think provides greater comfort and control/spin?

I prefer Excel Power if that is the string you are referring to although NXT is pretty close to the performance. Xcel Power however is more expensive and for value might not be worth going with if you break the strings in 10 hours or less.

I tested out a hybrid setup with these in the cross and black code in the mains and was very happy with the exception of X-one's durability. I had in strung in the mid 50's and the X-one started to fray immediately and is about to pop after only around 10 hours of play. I'm going to try a synthetic gut next with black code mains.

I agree, The bio phase is great String. Soft feel but not underpowered. I get better control and feel with it than my previous favorite string, Gamma TNT Pro Plus. If you haven't tried this string you should. I dont break strings much so $5-8.00 one way or the othe doesn't matter. I think you'll like it. Novak uses this string, how can you argue with that??

I like NRG2 better. It holds tension better, and it just feels the right string for my game compare to x-one.

i've been using X1 17g (M) with Lux Fluoro (X) for quite some time now. It plays quite nice with very good feel, power, and control. as the above posts mention, you get the feel and power from the X1s and the control/spin comes from the Lux Fluro combination. sorta best of both worlds. i know the combo can get expensive, but its worth it !!! btw, get the Natural colored X1.....the Red colored X1 is a completely different string - stiffer due to the outer red coating that you will need to "break in" before you feel the true benefits of the string itself.

This was possibly one of the best multis that I have tried besides livewire. The only thing is that I didn't enjoy is how fast it broke on me. Normally, I usually cut strings before I break them.

Have you also tried X1 with Alu Power or Alu Power Rough?

Have you also tried X1 with Alu Power or Alu Power Rough?

not with this hybrid - i wanted to keep the gauges very close: Fluoro=17g & X1=17g where as Alu Power & Rough are 16Lg. But aside from gauge, I like how Fluoro is also on the softer side (for a poly) where it doesnt overshadow the X1. Gives me enough control and spin - and doesn't kill my arm either.

Thanks for the suggestion. What tension do you string the hybrid at?

I use X-One 17 mains with Alu Rough crosses in my cold/wet weather racquets - my 2 Pure Drive GT Anni.

Regarding gauge difference - Alu Power Rough has the same gauge as Alu Power Fluoro, when you actually measure them - they are both 1.25, while Alu Power is actually thinner at 1.23 - go figure :)

X-One 17 is actually 1.28, so this gauge attention is a bit over the edge
