Tell me what this is - Head Gravity Pro

A friend of mine plays with the Head Gravity Pro. He’s in his 40s, smaller frame guy, athletic and speedy. He is a USTA 4.5. I string for him periodically and he tells me that with his Gravity Pro he is having a hard time putting away forehand’s that are around the service line. But he is able to hit put away forehands with other racquets.

He really likes the gravity pro and is able to hit everything else with it. So my question is is it the racquet? Too head light? Too head heavy? Not enough plow through? Would adding weight make it easier to hit put aways?

Most likely it’s the 18x20 string pattern and lower launch angle. As with any racket he just needs to either create more racket head speed or hit with a steeper low to high swing path. Gravity Pro is capable of power and spin needed to put away shots if you have the ability. What rackets has he played with in the past?

He’s had been playing with the Graphene Speed MPs for a while

even if you add weight to the handle it will increase static weight which will take more effort to swing..
depending on the spec he has and throw in a heavier string...his swing weight could be up at 350..
not mentioned is his string tension..that could be a determining factor.. a high tension and a high swing weight can turn any racket into a dud.. dependent on skill set too.
next step would try stringing with a powerful string at 40 lbs.. assuming a quality string job..
40lbs works very nice in the gravity mp, tour and pro..

I reg play with the Pro and the Tour, and I'm in the 4.5 landscape. The Pro is rock solid. I volley like no one's business with it, the feel is fantastic and the results as well. From the baseline it let's me hit hard penetrating shots. Approach shots and putaways though, require great footwork and preparation - and most importantly, being able to hit the ball well in front. Ime, there's a lot of variety when it comes to 4.0-4.5 players that I meet at least. I sometimes get beaten by players with less than epic technique. The ball doesn't care, and there are no style point. But heavy rackets in the front of the court require solid technique.

Now, your friend might just have an issue with weight and SW. The Pro is way heftier than it's spec lead you to believe. Ime, it's in the RF97A ballpark. All other head MP frames I've tried, with the exception of the Prestige line, have been super maneuverable and fast, despite what the SW is. The diff between the Extreme MP and Pro feels to me more like 30g/20 SW pts than 15g/3 SW pts.

The clay season has just started here, and I'm gravitating (!) towards the Tour, whereas I prefer the Pro on hc. The Pro just feels too sluggish on clay (and hard to end points).

No one mentioned string tension. If he's using a poly, he should try stringing below 50 lbs--48 lbs would be a good first try. That will give him a bit more pop and possibly increase string movement to produce a little extra top.

The gravity pro is made for a very select group of players imo for 95% of the tennis world it is not a go to frame
