Temporary switch?

Ok so I went to my coach to string my sticks and he calls me about half an hour later saying I dont have enough RPM blast in my reel to string all of them. Well I went all over the place trying to find a reel but no one had 17g in stock, so I decided to go out on a limb and buy a reel of Pro Hurricane Tour 17g... Was this smart or dumb? Will it play a little like RPM?

wow, bought a full reel?

From the reviews these strings are nothing alike. IME, I've only used hurricane tour and it is on the stiffer end of polys--plays great for a set or so, but then completely dies; while others review RPM as "soft".

They are both textured, but that may be the only similarity.

I restring every 2-3 days and go into competitive matches with fresh strings so I go through reels fast, well I guess Ill see how it hits today... Totally thought I had lots of RPM left but I was wrong, so dumb. I did drop the tension a few pounds to try to soften it up a bit, do you think itll help?

I think so. Since you do restring that often, you should be okay as PHT has a tendency to die fast. I would imagine you will still notice a difference, let us know and good luck!

Will do and thanks! Already feel a differene in just bouncing a ball, feels a bit more powerful.

From what I hear, Rpm blast is closer to Tecnifibre black code.

I was just wondering, Do you play with the Babolat aero pros?

Good luck anyway.

No, I'm a Head player. I use slightly customized Prestige mps. I tried black code awhile back and didn't really like it but I loved RPM... Ah I'm probably just weird! Hit for only 3 hours today so I can't really say if I like or hate PHT just yet. They (RPM and PHT) do play similarly but PHT is much more crisp. I also get the feeling PHT bites the ball harder cause some of my shots were jumping more then usual with my same stroke and swing speed. Louder pop at contact as well which I kinda like. Didn't hit more then a couple skill shots (drop shot, lob, etc.) but the few I hit were not very good.

Interesting! Keep me updated on how you like the PHT after a day or two because the only thing I don't like about RPM is it's a little too soft/mushy and not "crisp" enough!

Ok, 3 days of practice and hitting plus a few matches against good players. First off PHT has a much more crisp response when compared to RPM and really rewards confident, fast swinging but when I slowed down my stroke it caused my shots to drop short. There is more spin potential from PHT and it creates a nice heavy shot, was easy to rip off hard shots that dropped into the corners. Angles were easy to produce and I really liked the extra spin on my bh (1 hander) cause it allowed me to aim higher and get more depth. Now for the best shot with these strings, volleys! Easily! Such a great crisp response that allowed me to just punch my volleys deep, taking pace off was easy to, had fun just dropping some over the net. After volleys serves were nice, as long as you take a good cut at the ball! Was great hitting with heavy HEAVY kick, slice, and topspin. Flat serves were not bad but spin serves were just great! Did pop in some flat bombs every now and then though which produced easy points for me. Now for shots like lobs, dropshots, slices, etc., it was a little tough. Dropshots had great spin but sometimes floated a little to high, lobs were hit or miss, either great or dropped short. Slices were good but different, they were not penetrating the court as well and floated more but the ball DIES when it hits the court. To get more penetration simply lean into it more (lol no jokes plz). Overall a nice string that I am considering switching to.

Ok centered, good info... really it is! Just that I'm using 17g PHT and 17g RPM, so your info which compares 17g PHT to 16g RPM is not really 100% fair to RPM which is (just trust me on this) softer then PHT.
