Tennis advice that set you ahead 5 years

Almost every 3.5 at my club avoids our local 4.0 MEP because he harvests their souls by hitting the ball inside the lines.
For me, I believe it was not falling prey to "Don't play (MEP), he doesn't play real tennis. We're too good for MEP"

Not me. I gravitated towards him. Cleared my schedule any time he called.
I am still learning from our local MEP, and see the beauty of his game, and how long it took to build.

MEP taught me what real tennis is about, while the haters are still rallying from the baseline for 90 mins. straight all these years later.

Back in the '80s, a college tennis team coach witnessed me hitting (overhead) smashes in a badminton class that I was helping him out with. Told me that I should be that relaxed when hitting my tennis overheads. That piece of advice did wonders for my OH in tennis.

Unlike in Asterix comics, there is no magic potion that suddenly moves your tennis level ahead as if you played for 5 more years. Usually a lot of sweat, tears and sometimes a little blood is needed to keep progressing and the pace of improvement is faster if you have a good coach or mentor to help you.

For me this was the greatest tennis instruction video on the internet. Following the instructions has helped my backhand become extremely consistent.

I had one session with a coach who only had availability for one week, he essentially told me to relax on the forehand instead of trying too hard to control it. Turns out a good forehand was there all along it just had to be unlocked. That was the biggest insight I've ever had and forehand has been getting better ever since.

did you try the 3 finger grip for a relaxed fh?

hey ttps, glad you're still on... smells like you.
not that simple to just say it that way...
while you're ingraining your strokes you don't want to play meps...
but after you're strokes are ingrained (4.0+), then absolutely play anyone that makes you feel uncomfortable if the mep style bothers you.
