I dont know if i'm using the search function correctly but I tried to see if anyone else had already asked the same question as me but i couldnt find anything!

I am looking at get a phone running on the Android system and wondered if there will be any good apps available for keeping upto date with tennis? Does the Iphone have better tennis apps? I will be new to using a 'smartphone', cant i just find all the info i want by logging on to the atp website over my phone instead of using an app? Will I be able to get live scores on my phone through the atp site?

Any other info or experiences anyone might have with this would be appreciated.

iPhone has a free French Open app...live scores, pictures, news, lots of good stuff. No idea if it is available for Android or not.

iPhone has a bunch of tennis games, match trackers, and a few other live score apps, too.

And yes, if your phone supports it, you could just get online on your phone for scores as well.

live scores would be nice for the grand slams
wimbledon, roland garros, australian open, us open ..

Haha i think he would have probably layed it on a bit thicker if he really was lol. Fact is i'm not going for the iphone so i dont know if there is anyone else out there that has some experience with Android and tennis? To be specific I am looking at an HTC legend. Thank you though topaz for offering your experiences.

On my laptop I have the atp site as my homepage and have live scores open pretty much all day, will this be possible on a phone when i want access to it? (i'm not saying i need/want live scores on all day, just that I will be able to access it when i want?)

ESPN has a score app on the iPhone - would imagine it will get to the Androids eventually. Gives tennis scores - not always super up to date though - hit and miss.

I had a few apps on my iphone and switched to android for other reasons.

Personally if it were just tennis I'd get an iphone! But then you can never check it anyway because the battery's always flat!

Give it 6 months and the android market will catch up. ATP certainly dont have a dedicated site. But sports bookmakers have a really good handle on the results market for smartphones so perhaps look on those sites through your browser for up to date info?

Not sure about Android but all the slams have iphone apps released around their respective timings. The Aus Open and US Open ones are great. The French Open one was rubbish I thought. The Wimbledon one is ok but could use some improvement.

They have a racquetTune app for iphone also that I use. This measures stringbed tension by sound and is a big hit. Very good. There are a couple of threads on the board about it if you search for RacquetTune.

Otherwise there are some match tracker apps that let you tag winners/ue etc..etc... and some games.

The only thing I haven't found is a good tennis specific news app. They are many "sports channel" apps that have a tennis section but no specific app that I've found

Cheers, Orig

No, but my ex was an apple consultant. Lost my free tech support in the break up.

Fixed it for you!

Friend of mine has an HTC and really loves it...but is always moaning about lack of apps.

Go apple...get the new iphone 4. Then give it to me!!!!

The tennis section of the Eurosport app is solid. Website's tennis coverage is good too.

Tennis Apps for Droid

I have a Droid. I use a free download called sportstap, it has a tennis section that lists current and past tourneys from the past couple weeks. Pretty good site for all scores to, check it out.

Yeah that's the one I use actually :)....it's pretty good. I just wish someone would bring out a "tennis news" app that pulls together a whole bunch of websites.

Developers if you can hear me....

The ATP live score app is usually pretty solid for regular tour events, and each slam has it's own app (I think, I know USO/AO/RG do, not sure of Wimby yet). USO last year I was able to watch matches streaming on my phone while I was on my way to Atlantic City. Pretty, pretty cool.
