My Tennis Tutor Jr. that I bought used over 25 years ago used for $300 has successfully been converted to pickleball. It involved some plastic cutting to allow the larger ball to drop and buying pickleball wheels from Tennis Tutor for $80 and converted it to AC for $25. I see old Tennis Tutors for sale for $600 and converting them would be a good investment. I have tried a Pickleball Tutor with spin and prefer using it without spin.
You can get different trajectories by mixing in different balls, indoor, outdoor, brands, etc. Juggs balls with land short. Or any wiffle type ball that is the right size. Blitzballs and Junkballs for strange spins.
I also converted to what is probably the best tennis ball machine, the Spinfire Pro 2. I had to make my own throwing wheels since they don't make them. It is easily converted back to tennis by swapping wheels without taking the machine apart. The spin features don't work with my wheels but the internal oscillation is the best feature.
