Tennis Canada WRONG for not giving Vasek Pospisil male player of the year award.

Vasek Pospisil talked to the Canadian media recently he says he has a goal to make it into the top 20 by the end of next year. I think it is a realistic goal.

It sucks though that Vasek did not win the Tennis Canada male player of the year award it of course went to Milos Raonic. I like Raonic, but I feel tennis Canada made a mistake. Vasek had dramatic improvement he moved from 131 in the world all the up to 32. Raonic only moved two spots from 13 to 11.

I understand Milos is more consistent, but to me Vasek is the Canadian tennis story of the year. In Canada, Vasek doesn't get the respect he DESERVES. Yes, Milos won the singles matches for us at Davis Cup BUT it was Vasek who won some very important tennis matches for Canada.

Vasek also made it to three ATP semifinals in Bogota, Montreal, and most importantly Basel.

I hope next year, Vasek can get the consistency, I feel he's a better athlete than Raonic and a superior talent.

But the problem as always for Vasek is his mind. Hopefully, the success Vasek had this year instills some belief in him.

Well, Raonic became the first ever Canadian to reach the Top 10, even though it was only for 1 week! That deserves some credit, no?
Also he reached his first Masters 1000 final.

It's easier to go from 130 to 30, rather than from 13 to 10.

Not sure about this. At 130 you're playing Challengers, qualifying to get into ATP events, begging tour directors for wildcards,...

But Milos is the higher ranked so he was going to get the award. OP, you should be thrilled that you can have this debate - a lot of lean years previously and only Nestor's doubles success to talk about.

True, but Tennis Canada giving Milos the award is just STATUS QUO. I don't think Milos deserves it he didn't really improve that much this year.

Milos did NOT win those Davis Cup ties on his own for Canada this year. Vasek Pospisil did his part by winning some tough doubles matches with Daniel Nestor.

Vasek has had an incredible year finally finding some consistency and I think his result in Basel really proved he's ready to take it to the next level.

I know people will say moving from 13 to 11 is harder and perhaps that is true. But if you look at the QUALITY of Milos results his own big result was in Montreal. Milos Raonic STILL has NOT reached a grand slam Quarterfinal yet his rivals Kei Nishikori and Bernard Tomic have.

It is getting kind of old the media KEEP ON SAYING Milos Raonic is going to be the breakthrough young player yet where is the breakthrough?

He also has NOT won an ATP 500 title but he does have a 0-4 record in ATP 500 finals.

people act like the challenger tour and ATP Tour is the same it isn't even close. Vasek was ranked in the top 100 before but always at the bottom like in the 90s or 80s. However, this year, Vasek got more consistent, and he improved dramatically.

For Vasek to move from the challengers and blast his way into the ATP top 32 is very impressive. I don't see Donald Young or Ryan Harrison having those results.

Vasek has beaten John Isner something Milos can't say he's 0-2 against him. Vasek also knocked off Berdych and Gasquet two top ten players very impressive wins. Vasek also beat Ivan Dodig a very talented top 40 player this year too.

OP you have a strong argument. I would say Pospisil deserves it.

Raonic needs to get more focus and crack that top 10 and stay there. Pospisil could very well catch him in 2014

"Player of the Year" Award is not the same as "Most Improved Player". For the purposes of the award, it doesn't matter that Milos' results stayed pretty much the same (aside from the sole exception of making the Montreal final) nor that Vasek's improved drastically from past years.

In absolute terms, Milos clearly accomplished more and therefore deserves to be named "Player of The Year". If Vasek had beaten Milos in the Rogers Cup Semi, then maybe a case could have been made for Vasek. But the ways things played out, there's really no debate.

If there was a "Most Improved Award", then Vasek would be a lock for that because of the reasons you mentioned.
