Tennis Channel's "100 Greatest of All Time"

I think they pre-empted Ralph's rank in this list since he's still in his prime and playing. They probably thought he's going to eventually surpass Borg, hence placing him ahead of him.

Thanks for putting up that list, TMF. Btw what is that * next to the ladies?

*indicates a woman

So now that Federer's been officially crowned the GOAT, we must graciously accept it and stop the **** wars. :)

I'm sorry, but Nadal ahead of Budge bothers me. Budge won the Grand Slam, and I think his was the most difficult to accomplish because there was no commercial air travel back then. While he was on a boat for two weeks traveling from California to Australia, his Aussie counterparts were on the courts getting ready to play. While Budge was on a boat traveling to Europe, his French and British counterparts were on the courts getting ready to play. That's one disadvantage Laver, Connolly, Court and Graf didn't have, and I think it's a pretty significant one.

The point of this list ultimately isn't to provide some definitive list because it clearly failed to be credible in many instances. However, it is a rich resource of synopses for 100 of the greatest tennis champions of all time - regardless of order, this is valuable and interesting. Also, as a homage to great tennis champions the series is really nice. I can't wait for all the episodes to be uploaded wherever.

My point, which you obviously missed, was that you cared enough about the Tennis Channel list to post in this thread despite your claim to the contrary. However, due to your obvious irrational need to be right on the Internet, I will now concede. You win. Congratulations.

You had no point. You just felt the need to argue with people just because they did not like the list and dared to express their disappointment with it. I'm sorry, I don't like the damn list. You can continue to love this list and be sure to tune in for the over 9000 re-runs that they will inflict upon TTC viewers over the next few days.

To be right on the internet? Yes, I often watch TV while browsing the internet on my laptop. Is that irrational? I don't know. All I know is that you are an irrational person yourself considering you were posting comments left and right while watching the countdown.

And no one not only don't have problem with Jerry Rice being the greatest wide receiver, but the best football player.

I would imagine that anyone who saw Jim Brown play would have a problem with it. Heck, I never saw Jim Brown play, and I have a problem with it.

One thing that stood out for me is having Henin higher on the list than both Wills Moody and Connolly - they totally got that one wrong.

If you don't like the list, that's fine, but don't post that you don't care about the list, because you obviously do. That's the point I was trying to make, and your continued responses bear that out.

THere's also an episodes of 100 greatest NFL players of all time. Off the top of my head...

1. Jerry Rice
2. Jim Brown
3. Lawrence Taylor
4. Joe Montana
5. Walter Payton

The problem with Jim Brown was he had a short career(like Borg). While his stats was excellent after he retired(still is today), but he's been surpassed by some great rushers after his him. Jerry Rice? His records we don't even know if they will ever be broken again.

I will post whatever the hell I like and I still don't care about this list. If you are incredibly closed minded and think that a 1 sentence forum post indicates keen interest in the program then congratulations, you have proved a "point".

My continued responses have nothing to do with this list. They have been aimed towards to you because you love to argue for no reason. I have not mentioned a single thing about the list itself in these responses.

Shirley Jerry Rice' records should be eclipsed in this pass happy league. Ckout the Packers/Lions passing attempts and yards in their last game.

You're the one proving my point, not me. Anyway, I'm done with you now. Thanks for the laughs. ;)

The pleasure was all mine. That was one of the stupidest arguments anyone on TTW has ever proposed. The premises were downright moronic. Bullzilla would be pleased.

You're welcome.

I'm sorry they did not put Rod Laver at number 1.

As am I. Like I posted earlier, he did twice what only one other man and three women could do once, and that alone should put him at #1. You could argue that he didn't play against all the greatest players in the world when he did it the first time, but he still did it, and none of those others who turned pro before him can make that claim.

nadal, evert, ag.assi, connors and bjk ahead of serena is a joke

Evert ahead of Serena is a joke? Evert has won 18 slams and over 100 singles matches and was the dominant female tennis player for years. She most certainly should be ahead of Serena on the list.

Well, Roddick is in there also.

Roddick is a better player - he won more titles, more Masters, contested more slam finals (just happened to run into Federer in those of them that he lost), etc.

Plus he's an American, so he is well-known to the Tennis Channel and can therefore count on some bias.

The choice of Kafelnikov, however, is unexplainable.

I kinda thought that so I typed it for you.

Yes I also agree, thanks for giving DelPo his props :) Too bad there's the pesky matter of Vilas still floating around somewhere, or else I'd officially crown DelPo as the Argentine GOAT right now in my own super-scientific GOAT list.

I suspect he was being a tad sarcastic.

Why no Del Potro though? He won a slam didn't he?

DelPotro did win a slam but he has done virtually nothing since then, while Murray hasn't won a slam but won Masters titles and isn't in the top two either. I suspect the panel are looking for a mixture of both, slams and non slam success.

The Dohertys never existed. All their Wimbledon, US, Davis Cup and Olympics wins - just figments in the head of some old ****s.

My list:

Federer
Laver
Sampras
Nadal
Djokovic
Borg
Lendl
Agassi
McEnroe
Emerson/Connors

My other list: :)

M: Torben Ulrich
F: Francoise Durr

How the hell is NAdal #6 on the list?

Sure Nadal is not yet retired, but at this time he's NOT in tier 1 of greatest players. That may change, but it looks unlikely..

Putting Nadal ahead of Court and Rosewall reflects the ignorance and lack of knowledge of this list.

The list is seriously biased against pre Open Era legends while unfairly favours players after the 2000's. That's why they put Venus and Henin over Connolly and Moody.

On men's side, I think Laver is the greatest, followed by Rosewall, Federer and Pancho, Sampras.
Federer is dominated by his major rival Nadal, while Laver is quite even against Rosewall.
Laver has the grand slam, Federer doesn't. Laver and Rosewall and Pancho were barred from attending majors in their prime, their achievements in pro should be treated seriously. If we treated their years in pro tennis seriously, it's easy to put Laver, Rosewall and Pancho into top 5 list.

Bad joke but continue.
