Tennis fans in real life - Monte Carlo review

I know I am quite late but nevertheless I wanted to give you some thoughts about the past Monte Carlo Rolex Masters.

I was travelling with a bunch of friends MC and met a lot different tennis fans. Most of them were fans of Rafa, Nole, Roger but of course I met fans of other players as well. I really have to say that 9 out of ten were really nice people. With some of them we spent whole days there and with some of them we were making fun of each other every time the oponent of your favorite player will lose the point. Of course I didn´t expect to meet people like some on this board. I don´t have to name the known trolls. Everybody knows them. Nevertheless I was pleasantly surprised that most of the people there were really friendly in no way hostile or idiots.

In 2013 we visited Roland Garros and it was great too but nothing compared to this "little" familiar tournament. I am really thinking about the possibility to return to the Monte Carlo Rolex Masters in 2016.

Last but not least I will post some pictures.

Thanks OP. Confirms my belief most members here just follow the ATP scoreboard or if at all they watch a match they see what kit Rafa is wearing.

Yeah, that´s breaking news, sureshs. Well I didn´t name any troll, thanks you did it for me

The breaking news is that kids like you don´t have the courage to behave like little brats in real life because they know they could get problems faster than that they are able to run.

Every tennis fan I meet in the real world is like that. Nothing like the fanboys on tennis forums. I highly doubt the trolls on this board would behave the same way in the real world the way they do here. Because it would be so uncool.

Yes, very true! I don´t mind that the whole world has maybe a different opinion in comparison to mine but it´s they way you behave.

No, you can't. Because if you do, Djokovic would come and ask you "Are you here to Provoke? You keep saying/doing the same thing after each point. Are you here to provoke?"

But on YouTube you can see fan girls yelling 'Rafa Rafa' when he arranges his water bottles or when signing autographs. Just like here. So, I think Rafa fans here and on the courts seem the same.

Enough pictures for today :)

Unfortunately Stan and Roger didn´t make it to the quarter finals so we couldn´t take pictures of them. We attended the quarters, semis and the final.

They get excited, tennisaddict. Nothing wrong with that. Saying something like Federer is God is disturbing however. Whoever says this believing it needs help.

Great pictures and report, Edgecrusher!
Thanks for sharing. Always nice to read people's experiences with visiting tournaments.

And yes, in RL, 95% of visitors to tennis tournaments are just nice normal people. Just avoid those who look overly silly and who spend days in a row only waiting for autographs... ;)

Not derailing the thread, tennisaddict. I think we all would not want to be friends with people who worship a tennis player. Not in the real world.

Yeah that crazy fat guy is me
It was real fun being there.

If someone needs more information about Monte Carlo / Nice feel free to contact me. We had a beautiful apartment (AirBnB is awesome!) in the heart of Nice and spent there unforgettable days (exciting city with exciting bars).

Edgecrusher, I'm not sure from your report if it was you or your brother taking these pictures -- but whichever one of you it was, I'd love to know what kind of camera and kit you were using.

:)

55-200mm lens? 75-300mm?

Love the action shots -- so hard to get the ball in the frame, our boys move so fast -- but the ones of the surrounding landscape were also gorgeous.

One picture though, hope you don't mind, I just could not resist:

Agree with OP; I was in Shanghai last year and fans of rival players sat side by side and made fun of each other without any ill will at all! Really all good fun and every one was extremely nice and sporting! Hope to go back again next year! :)

My brother took most of the Pictures. He uses a Nikon 5200 + Tamron 18-270 mm.

I´ll post some more pictures when I´ll find some time :)

You look so funny. Thanks for sharing.

You´re welcome, guys! Normally I am a very lazy member of this board but I thought I had to share this.

Djoko winning MC was the topping on the cake!

Exactly what I thought about the crowd. The best about sports ... I´m sure nearly everbody loves to watch a sports event with friends and talking BS all the time

So you're obviously rich and have the luxury to travel to MC every year - something that 99% of people can only dream of. Yet all you can worry about are internet trolls. First world problems. Get a life.

Obviously you don´t know what you´re talking about. Travelling to Nice (where we stayed at apartment) and visiting the MCRM isn´t that expensive.
But thank you ... I will try to get a life.
Here we go, I found a new friend

Wow, jealousy, much?

Rich? There are actually folks with completely normal jobs (or even below that!) who are such great fans of tennis that they try to save as much money all year round as they are capable of, just to be able to visit one tournament a year. And as Edgecrusher already said, MC isn't that expensive, and as long as you don't stay in a *****-Monaco Hilton, it's perfectly possible to find cheap places to stay.

When you get the chance to come to Cali, visit the Indian Wells tournament in March. It's much better than the USO and Miami tournament. Very nice atmosphere. If you want cheaper accommodations, find a hotel farther than the venue. Those aren't bad either.
