Tennis fans in real life - Monte Carlo review

Wow, jealousy, much?

Rich? There are actually folks with completely normal jobs (or even below that!) who are such great fans of tennis that they try to save as much money all year round as they are capable of, just to be able to visit one tournament a year. And as Edgecrusher already said, MC isn't that expensive, and as long as you don't stay in a *****-Monaco Hilton, it's perfectly possible to find cheap places to stay.

Exactly :)

Here´s the apartment we booked for our visit:
https://www.airbnb.de/rooms/1487892

It was EUR 150.- a night, so EUR 37,50 for each of us. We paid EUR 335.- per Person for 7 matches (all 1/4 finals, both semi-finals and the final).

I don´t know how some people define luxury for me luxury were all the sick cars I have seen in MC

When you get the chance to come to Cali, visit the Indian Wells tournament in March. It's much better than the USO and Miami tournament. Very nice atmosphere. If you want cheaper accommodations, find a hotel farther than the venue. Those aren't bad either.

Thanks for the recommendation. I heard a lot of good stuff about Indian Wells. From time to time I have to travel from the German company I work for to our subsidiary in Detroit. So I thought about visiting maybe Toronto, Cincinnati or the US Open one day. But maybe I should think about getting to California instead.

I've never been to Toronto, so can't say much about it. But among the 4 biggest tournaments here (IW, Miami, Cincinnati and USO), as far as the general atmosphere and tournament "friendliness" is concerned, IW is the best and the one I enjoyed the most, Everytime !!!

Awesome stuff OP!!

And yeah, fans IRL are much better than what you see around here most of the time haha

I will only be in Halle for the final, but I'll try to do something similar… Though I do not have such a great camera, never mind the money for one

Anyways, glad you enjoyed it and hope you get to see your fav at many more venues in future :)

Edit: by the way, what about MC did you prefer to the French Open? I've been at the French too, but just curious :)

I watched quite a lot of matches on TennisTV and that´s exactly what I thought about IW. And you didn´t even mention the great weather down there :)

I´ve never been in Halle. There´s a simple explanation for that ... as I live in the very South of Germany (Bodensee) the distance from here to Halle is EXACTLY the same as from here to MC :-D

What I liked about MC more than about the FO is:
1. the tournament is a lot smaller (smaller venue, less People, better sight)
2. it was a lot easier to get tickets for the matches we wanted to attend
3. Nice is cheaper than Paris (I remember paying EUR 9,60 for ONE beer in a Parisienne shabby Café )
4. Nice is beautiful city directly on the coast with tons of bars and cafes in the old town (in Paris you really Need to know where to go)
5. we were able to drive by car as it is only 650 km from our town
6. and so on :)
