Tennis players today have no personality

The Post-Safin Era has really suffered from a lack of personality (as well as playing). I just watched an Andre Agassi match and got this great feeling up my spine. It was like I actually felt emotionally invested in watching him. I just don't feel that way when I watch Nadal/Djokovic/Murray/Del Potro/etc.

You can't be serious, man. You cannot be serious! That ball was on the line! Chalk flew up! It was clearly in! Now he's walking over, everyone in this whole stadium knows it was in, and you call out?
 
Djokovic tore off his shirt at the US Open and he gets torn apart on these forums, even to this day. Most tennis fans are too uptight to appreciate any unique personalities. Conformity or bust.

Doing the same thing over and over again at seemingly random points of a match is not personality. It's like watching Will Ferrell play similar roles over and over again.
 
Some people find fun in arguing.
Some people find fun in yelling.
Some people find fun in cracking racquet.
Most of us find fun in skilled, tactic full, intense match. It doesn't necessary personalities.
I find fun in 1hbh vs 1hbh
 
The advisors long ago realised a poster doesn't speak. No need of a personality, only a passable exterior and on-court performance to sell products.

The game is heading in an antiseptic direction, drones playing on one surface.
 
I do miss the Ivanisevic/Safin/Muster types, but I think part of the problem is tennis is dominated by the Big 3 and nobody else makes enough of an impact for us to really get to see the guys with personalities on display (and I'm sure there are some). Every final of every big tournament is contested only by members of the Big 3 (formerly Big 4). None of them are the crazy types that were entertainers as much as tennis players.
 
No doubt certain earlier players were fun to watch due to their outbursts and histrionics, but today's players such as Nadal, Federer and Joker have nice personalities and are good role models.

monfils and Tsonga?????!!!!!!! gulbis and djkovic as well.
and most of the people mentioned like murray fed nadal and del potro are nice people

True ,tennis players with personality are needed not for the people who are already a tennis fans, but for attracting new fans

LOL thats what I never got either. Apparently smashing rackets = personality. I mean what else can you do on court to show your persona?? If you want individual personas then go watch their interviews, the top 4 are awesome! (Murray maybe a bit behind :) )
 
I do wish that top players especially Federer show a bit more frustration/anger when they miss a shot. I wanna see Roger smash a racket again. It's been awhile.
 
Murray and Djokovic do show emotion and anger whilst playing. Federer and Nadal are like drones at times. It's ironic considering how people keep going on about how much better to watch Federer and Nadal are than Murray and Djokovic

Interesting personalities are for the locker room, the postmatch interview and off court antics. Except for the occasional Monfils highlight, most of what passes as "interesting" on court behavior is really immature tantrums, not interesting.

The post-match interviews are usually as sterile as the Octomoms first husband. The same boring politically correct answers I.e"my opponent played really well, I just won a few more of the important points." blah.
 
Hewitt, Fognini, Tsonga, Janowicz, Paire, Stepanek, Monfils, Baghdatis, Federer, Nadal, Llodra... If you long to see players express themselves out there(and/or behave badly), you just need to open your eyes during every other ATP match.

The only real jerk was Connors IMO. McEnroe and Lendl were pretty genuine guys and didn't really do things in a mean spirited way,. Of course, Mac was over the top but it never seemed malicious. I think we could use a little more personality today. Too much PR...
