Tennis Racquet Bag or Backpack?

Outliar

Rookie
Im a recreational player who plays on average twice a week for about two hours at a time. Im looking for a new bag as my current one is just a regular backpack which I need to use for other purposes besides carrying my tennis racquets.

Im looking for a Racquet Bag/Backpack to bring two of my tennis racquets to court and also some of my other items such as balls, shoes, water bottle etc... I have a few bags in mind but not sure which to choose. The Wilson Tour V Large Backpack is on the top of my list for a tennis backpack and the Wilson Tour V 9/12 pack bag if I were to choose a racquet bag.

I personally prefer a backpack because its more manoeuvrable and I can carry it around elsewhere/travel without looking like an idiot.

The dilemma is that the price difference between them is negligible. The 9/12 pack bag also has a thermoguard which is useful to say the least and carries more things inside. The downside is of course I can only carry it to the tennis courts and nowhere else.

Any suggestions/recommendations?

Thanks

i'd take a legit racquet bag compared to a backpack everytime. better organization IMO and holds more stuff.

I am a racquet bag sort of guy. Mostly for the fact that they hold much more. I store the majority of my court gear in it at home, and on the court.

A backpack would be much easier to outgrow.

This one works pretty well for a racket or two and some light gear. For 10 bucks hard to beat. I have one and have one of TWs racket bags. I have beat my TW racket bag to death, patching, fixing zippers, still works.

I have this backpack and it's fine, given the limitations of a backpack compared to a multi racquet bag. However, if you ride a bike to the courts, the frames hit your helmet. And you have to squeeze two frames into the designated space. I now use a Wilson Countervail backpack, which tilts the frames off to the side, avoiding my bike helmet. All Wilson backpacks do this. The space for two frames as well as the overall bag is a little larger.

Racket bags do carry more rackets, but certainly less other gear like shoes, balls, waterbottles, change of clothes, and new balls in cans.
A backpack carries more accessories but fewer rackets, like maybe 3 maximum.
I"m no pro, so usually carry 3 rackets, one pair of shoes and socks, 2 new cans of balls, 12 older practice balls, shorts, shirt, windbreaker, 2 ankle braces, extra new grips and lead tape, so it's a back pack for me. Volkl. Or the 10 buck TW.

Thanks for the suggestions and replies. Is it worth getting a thermal lining compartment for the racquet bag/backpack? I've seen a lot of new racquet bags especially the bigger ones have the thermoguard or the equivalent, how useful has it been for you in keeping your racquets protected as opposed to just keeping your racquet in a safe compartment without thermal

Surely this cant be right, say you have 3 rackets and you put them all in one compartment, that leaves at least another compartment for you to put the rest of your stuff which would surely be bigger than what a backpack can carry?

You are correct if you have a 12 racket bag, you can carry 3 racket's and lots of sundries and supplies.
However, if you have a 3 racket back, there is little room to carry more than a pair of nylon shorts and a T shirt.

My fiancé got me a Addidas Barricade IV bag for Christmas.
I wouldn't have bought it myself ( Babolat fanatic) but since then I love it and everyone that sees it talks about the features. Worth checking in to .
Babolat makes great bags. My buddy has a bunch of them and they are very high quality like everything they do.

My bag has shoulder straps so in essence it's a backpack also. I'd recommend one like that. Ken

I was thinking along the same lines. If I were to get a racquet bag, I would be looking at a 6/9 racket bag with backpack straps to carry it like a backpack and one compartment with a thermal guard.

buy yourself a nike court tech big backpack while they are still available.. best of both worlds. the perfect bag.

I've seen pictures and whilst it is a good bag, it's too big for my liking for me to carry it around

Go to the courts at a closed high school to play on a Saturday,

hot sun, thirsty, glad I brought these 5 waters
good sunglasses in a case so they don't get boogered up, saline in case your contacts mess up.
fill up one side pocket completely with wallet, keys, pen, checkbook, phone, spare cash.
sweating, mmmm, toweling off, and fresh wristbands feels good
blister forming on your feet, spenco second skin and a quick tape job
want to play some tunes on your bluetooth speaker while you hit.
you need those 2 bananas for potassium,
man, I've sweated through 3 shirts, a pair of socks, and 2 hats completely completely, glad I've got a dry set to change into before we leave to go eat.
Bill, you forgot to bring the new balls, AGAIN?!?!? It's OK, I've got 2 new cans here.
Hey, cute beginner girl who is batting her eyes at me and asking for help with her backhand, let me put a fresh overgrip on your racket, I even have some scissors to cut the end off with.

Not trashing you Jeremy, but is amazing how quickly you can fill up a big bag, even if you only bring 2 sticks (which is all I usually bring too)

don't get me started about the ball machine, golf clubs, extension cords, busser of practice balls, camera tripod, and camp chairs I have in my car.
PAY NO ATTENTION TO THE MAN BEHIND THE CURTAIN !!! (OR MUCKING AROUND THE CARGO COMPARTMENT IN THE BACK OF HIS VAN)
