Tennis Reality TV Show

I think it will be very interesting to see if a tennis reality show is being shown on TV, something similar to X Factor or the Idol show.

People who have great talent but not the opportunity will get the chance to show off their skills and personality to the world. It's about giving people some opportunities.

I really would love to see this kind of show in tennis, and see what the players are doing in their day to day life, training and so on.

What do you guys think?

Tennis Idol?

There would never be enough ratings to keep a show like this on the air. Plus, what's the winner going to get? If you want to show off your talents you gotta do it the old fashioned way.

You mean like the Golf Channel's "The Big Break"? http://www.golfchannel.com/tv/big-break/

Where winner gets an exemption in a pro tournament (golf), but in tennis the player would get a wildcard in a qualifying event of an ATP tourney or something?

Would be a good idea but I doubt there's enough viewership to warrant such a show.

Winners of X Factor or Idol don't always succeed in their career, so it is not really about what you will get. It's about the show.

If the winner is young enough, they can be signed in to a contract with big company and get wild cards in tournaments... Kids from poor background or poor country will benefit immensely from this kind of show.

It's about discovering hidden talents on the street.

The problem with this idea is that the USTA has the US Open National Qualifying tournament where any regular Joe can enter for a chance to enter qualifying at the US Open.
It's a tough road because you have win a bunch of matches in order to be the victor.

I think it would be more interesting to follow one guy - with loads of talent - playing on the future's circuit. Follow him for a year giving needed financial support and allowing everyone to see how difficult it is to make it in tennis.

Would make an interesting documentary... especially if he can make it to the main tour in 12 months. Most of the time, the issue is just money.

Only channel that would air it is tennis channel and nobody has that anyway.

Not enough people watch tennis, let alone a show about tennis

People would watch the Tennis Channel if they showed current tournaments and not just Williams sisters matches and their lives.

Yes,I think that would be a great documentary - sort of the 'Hoop Dreams' of tennis...

I think this idea or the Hoop Dreams doc idea would actually do alright on the Tennis Channel. It's a big enough market. Heck, there's a show on Velocity I watch called Cafe Racer where mechanics turn old motorcycles into new Cafe style bikes - that HAS to be a more obscure topic and smaller audience.

A reality show about stamp collecting would probably get higher ratings.

Is there an audience, probably, but I imagine it would be pretty small.
Maybe make it an online series.

The grand slams don't even get very high TV ratings compared to other
sports.

I agree with this.
