Tennis shoes for basketball?

You gys think it is a good idea to wear tennis shoes for basketball? Is it bad for the shoes? I mean they have same ideas like basketball shoes: support, comfort, and lightness. what do you guys think?

If you can live with them being low-tops, do it. I used my Barricade 2s for outdoors basketball and I played just fine. When I play indoors, it's a different story however as I have specific indoor basketball shoes.

The footwork of the 2 sports are very similar, lateral, vertical, etc... in fact I do the opposite, I use my basketball midtops for tennis, for the extra ankle support. Unfortunately they do wear out faster this way.

Should not be an issue to use the tennis shoes for b-ball. When I play B-Ball i like to have a little bit more cushioning (low post) but for guard types that do more running and slashing or general street style it should be fine.

Af far as mid/high tops offering more ankle support, newer technology has elimanited the physical difference in ankle support. Ankle stability is all in the heel cup of the shoe now. Older (and lower price point)shoes did not use certain techs in the design and needed the extra material. But the mental thought of having the material there gives the feeling that you dont need to worry about it.

I would not recommend using tennis shoes for basketball. I used the Breathe Free IIs for basketball outdoors in the summer and they really werent very good.
Tennis shoes just feel clunky and unnatural when you play bball in them imo.

If you're doing it occasionally, it's no big deal, but if you plan to play a lot of basketball, I'd suggest getting real basketball shoes, as they offer additional support in areas that most tennis shoes don't.

You could but there isn't a pair of tennis shoes in the world that I would play in over a good pair of BB shoes. Typically hoops shoes have softer soles for better traction. Also, the cushioning and latteral support tends to be better.

I think John Stockton used to wear some Nike Agassi model several years ago. I have no idea if it was a different sole on the shoe though. He was a small point guard, so he could probably get away with it.

i would suggest tennis shoes for tennis, and basketball shoes for basketball. i don't recommend tennis shoes for b ball nor b ball shoes for tennis (though tennis shoes for bball wouldn't be THAT bad). but if you can, get the correct shoe for the correct sport.

As other have said, very similar footwork. Except for possibly being too low, tennis shoes should work well for basketball.

Both tennis and BB ball shoes are "court' shoes, which allow your feet to basically sit relatively flat, compared to the more cupped position of running shoes.

But, as others have said, if you're doing it more than occasionally, just buy BBall shoes.

they are fine...the only thing you should be worried bout is the ankle support with the tennis shoes its easier to come down on the ankle wrong

^ I find that tennis shoes are a bit more durable than basketball shoes so you'd probably go through the basketball shoes quicker than if you wore tennis shoes.

How about using basketball shoes for tennis?
My friend does this, and he saves a ton of money.

As stated by others, tennis courts tend to chew up the soles of basketball shoes made for wood basketball courts. If you're easy on the soles of the shoes or play on clay, then there's no reason not to wear basketball shoes for tennis.

I find guaranteed sole tennis shoes to be made of tougher material than basketball shoes.
