Tennis string only for "Pro's"

First of all HI to all. I am new to this board, but I have been reading for half year regularly.

I am from Germany and the local tennis forum are not used so frequently.

Today i stumbled upon an offer on a german auction site. There, a german Top-40 player is offering strings, which she claims are only accessable to pros and selected tennis academies.

It looks american made, so maybe some of the string guru's on this board know anything about that string.

Nobody makes strings just for the pro's. It is too expensive to come up with a unique string formula just for them. I bet it a generic string that they rebranded. Are there laws in Germany that force manufacturers to label country of origin?

Never heard of it and i know my strings. Bet it is german made, in one of the german string manufacturing facilities. Made most likely for the USA market, a targeted market, maybe for a event, club, or academy. Made for Pros...really means nothing..just more marketing spin...If it is on an auction site, that tells you they are just clearing out some dead stock that they need to unload. The string itself would be a gamble, hey for a cheap price in maybe ok. Problem with this is, even in a long shot and you like it...you may never be able to get it again. And if it is crap......you will be stuck with it because you with have a tough time unloading an unknown string.... good luck man...

No one would a market a string in the USA and call it Silicon Valley strings and have a USA flag all over it unless they were selling it at Walmart. That is a horrible name for the US market.

Yep manufuctures must label the country of origin. But I cannot see it on the picture.

She claims that the strings are used by pro's worlwide and a reel is more than 400$. Her name and location fits the club she plays, so it is not sold by a company that clears its stock. I tried to google some of the terms but without any results.

I think she is being somewhat dishonest. A reel of Luxilon doesn't even half that much. I would not buy it. I would stick with strings rated here or on the string forum.

There is an outside chance she could be telling the truth. Lacking any legitimate product distribution, it is possibly being given away for players and academies to try for free. This is a common seeding practice for no-name products trying to get name recognition and gain some traction . If, in fact, they are giving it away to pros it should not be considered an indication of its quality. That is a big "if" though.

"Exclusivity" and "no distributors" can be mean the same thing in this case. If you want my personal opinion, based on the idiotic looking labeling and the fact that a Made in USA would be big news in the US, yet it is apparently not for sale here, I think this is unmitigated horse$h!t.

It's a legit string. They have a HUGE string factory in Silicon Valley located just between Apple and Google.

Thanks for your insights.

I was not considering buying it. I am curious as I cannot find anything about that label. And there might be a remote chance that she is telling at least some truth.

News to me..any evidence/proof? We are talking tennis strings correct... ?

I believe Ashway(RI) is alone in the US manufacturing of (some of their) racquet strings.

$400 reel. Beware. If you want to spend a lot of money on a reel, get a reel of luxilon - flavor of your choice. But, there are many strings used by pros that you can get for a lot less money.

I believe most of the pro stringers that post here are honest and accurate. They always say pro's are using retail strings. There were a few that indicated Nadal has a thicker gauge of RPM blast and he did like 15L gauge but other than that, I've never heard of a special string targeted for pros.

I was being a smart aleck. I should have put up an emoji like ;).

The string in the photo looks like Tourna Big Hitter Blue Rough BHBR.

As I said I was just curious, not considering buying it. I have tried several Luxilon strings but I prefer some Solinco, Yonex and Kirschbaum over Luxilon.

Any Idea how to find out who labelled that string?

do you have a link to the auction site? Im also german, an there actually is a forum witch for the most part is crowded with people religiously talking about strings & stringing. Maybe you find there somebody who knows what this is. It doesn´t look anything like a reel of 400$ Strings ...

It's on the most famous auction bay ;) (german site). It was added today.

I use Saitenforum.de regularly but I believe that the board members here have more expertise. Seems that I was fooled by the american flag and slogan on the reel to think it is made in the US.

My input, and I am probably wrong. It looks like a label that was printed on a home printer and added to an existing reel of cheap string. Note the missing center hole in the label for the mounting rod when loading the real. If it were legit I believe it would have the hole as I believe they are typically labelled before loading.
