Got the tracking and UPS will deliver mine on Thursday. In the meantime I've downloaded the app and signed up. I found a serious bug in the android app. On the sign up screen where I fill out my name, email, birthdate, etc... the app will not take any keyboard input. Tried it on 3 separate devices (LG, Samsung and a Nexus). I finally got around the issue by using autocorrect and selecting the typeahead input which filled the field out. Then I was able to backspace with the keyboard and complete the sign up. Also once in the app the home, back, menu soft buttons disappear on devices without hard buttons. One must swipe up to get them back. This will eventually make it into my review but I'm posting in case if anyone else sees these issues.

I've been trying to get the sensor to work all weekend but having some problems. I have synced my data 6 times but only one activity (1 hr long set of doubles) has actually shown up in the results. My other sessions were shorter hitting sessions that did not show up in the results. Is there suppose to be a minimum amount of time played in order for the stats to record? Or is there something wrong with my sensor?

That's kind of odd. I uploaded 6 hitting sessions, but some were really short, like 10 minutes, just doing some initial testing and such... Are they showing as unqualified?

No, nothing is showing up after syncing. Only that 1 session that showed up was under unqualified. I tried some short sessions for initial testing but those didnt appear.

At first glance, out of the box. I was expecting a nice, big, visible Babolat logo that can be seen from the grandstands on the wristband. There is a logo on the wristband, bit it is rather small and not easily visible from any distance. Babolat may be missing out on a logo marking opportunity as it is.

It would also be nice if there was a good-fitting, ergonomic storage unit type thing was included. Perhaps the kind of container that would fit, and protect, all of the parts that would store easily into a racquet bag.

The fabric of the wrist band feels lightweight and quite comfortable. It is also very easy to attach to the wrist.

Actually I prefer a small logo. I don't want some gaudy thing like your talking about.

I am quite excited about this as well as I have been using other fitness trackers and none of them give me specific enough info, but a few questions on this

1) Does the Babolet pop and the QIP use the same app?
2) What are some of the key differences - other than the price
3) Does the app also track match statistics over time?
4) I downloaded the app and tried to register - but the SMS verification didn't work (I live in Hong Kong though) just want to know if anyone has similar issues

thanks, so close to pressing that order button on TW!

I am looking at if from the perspective of Babolat. They put distinctive markings on their racquets so that they are easily identifiable from a distance. They mark distinctive stencils on the strings of their sponsored players. It is just how it is done in tennis.

Not much more frustrating then placing a pre-order and being told you would have it buy a certain date, only to then be told it is on back-order with no definitive date. That is my current situation, I wish I could just buy it at a local store.

racertempo,

I am so sorry for the delay! There seemed to be some sort of a delay in receiving the shipment from Babolat and we hope to have them shortly. According to the shipping information, it should arrive in our warehouse on Friday. I will make sure to keep you up to date if I find out more information. Thank you for your patience and our apologies again for the inconvenience!

Thanks,
Brittany, TW

Hi Herman

1) Yes, the Babolat POP and PIQ use the same app and interface.
2) The key difference between the two are functionality. PIQ is a multisport sensor that includes tennis functionality whereas POP is tennis specific.

I will get back to you on specifics for 3 and 4.

My sensor seems to confuse my forehands with volleys... After about 90 minutes of practice hitting, it said I hit only seven forehands and 170 or so volleys... It should have been the other way around... Also, I hit about about even topspin and slice on my backhands, but it said I hit less than 10 topspin strokes. I am not sure if I am wearing it on the wrong position.

Same thing happened to me on the PD Play along with over head smash versus serves. The later I believe is due to timing when I play doubles. When I'm not serving and at the net, sometimes the only shot I get is an overhead and it is then registered as a serve

How are you wearing the sensor? The sensor should go into the wristband logo side up and turned upright. You should be able to read the Babolat, in other words. Then, once on your wrist, it should read like a watch. The POP should be right side up if you looked at your wrist as you would a wristwatch. Does that help?

I think I wore it on the wrong place. It was not worn like a watch, rather it was moved closer toward the inside of the wrist. I thought the diagram showed as such. I will wear it like a watch and try it again. It actually makes the training more fun because I look forward to upload the session and see the results.

Oh, wait... I just have to click the unqualified and designate what the activity was... and gets recorded. So my hardest ground stroke was clocked at 56mph and the serve at 97.:(

Crap! I gotta hit harder than that tomorrow... Embarrassing.

Oh, wait.. I got 67mph on my ground stroke on the next session recorded. Hopefully, I,will hit some hard first serves tomorrow.

Ok.., so after today..., my PIQ score is lowly 2569.o_O
My style point is 5/10. I must look terrible.
It says the speed of 24mph... Hmmm, even as an average that is too slow...
I got 16% on the spin... I just realized why my opponent love playing against me.

This device is making me realize that I suck and need to work on my stuff.

I gotta get to know this POP sensor and the App more in details. This actually looks really promising. It's quite fun looking at the data and makes me look forward to tomorrow's hitting session.

BTW, it didn't even feel like I was wearing anything. The band was comfortable.

Thank you Babolat! Thank you TW for this opportunity.

I'm glad to hear that the band was comfortable. But, an important thing to remember is that the speeds in your PIQ score are swing speed, not speed of the ball coming off of your racket.

must it be worn on your main wrist, right for right handers? if not, has accurace been tested to tellmif oneyou dominant wrist is more accurate? also, how does it sense a one handed backhand if it must be on your dominant hand only? i just ordered one from tw, but also have a qlipp on pre order as well, thanks!

The POP must be worn on your dominant hand, as you designate in the app itself. For example, a righty would wear it on his right wrist.

It's also key to get the orientation of the device correct. When putting it in the wristband, the Babolat logo must be facing you and read right side up. When wearing the POP wristband, it must be worn like a watch with the POP logo legible right side up.

Also, can you clarify your question on the one handed backhand? If it's on your dominant wrist, aren't you also hitting your one hander with the dominant wrist?

I think I wore it on the wrong place. It was not worn like a watch, rather it was moved closer toward the inside of the wrist. I thought the diagram showed as such. Glad to hear you're having fun, and I apologize for any confusion on orientation. Try wearing it like a wristwatch and let us know how it goes.

Feel a little bit like a goofball for admitting this, but I was looking thru the Quick Start Guide trying to figure out how to get the dang thing to pair with my iPhone. I had it on the charger and the LED was showing a steady orange light for a good 30 minutes (even though the instructions call it a yellow light), then it turned solid green, not flashing. (again, not what the Quick Start Guide said it would do)

Then I took it off the charger and attempted to pair. Waiting... waiting.... No flashy blue light, so maybe I am missing something? Oh yeah, the bright orange Babolat logo is actually a power button. Duh! Hold the power button till you get a flashing blue light. Updated firmware. Paired up, no problem.

Sigh. Now I'm going to go hit some practice serves and see how it goes!

Thanks Babolat and TW!!!

Hey y'all, thank you so much for the feedback and reports on issues with POP. That's why we love doing these playtests with the forum: you all are very passionate and have great attention to detail, which allows us to improve our products before they hit consumers. We have been following this thread closely and are taking all of your feedback into account. Moreover, we are working on solutions as we speak so that we can resolve all of these issues as soon as possible.

Please keep using POP and continue to give us feedback, both positive and negative. You can post it here and/or e-mail me at msafi@babolat.com or call me at 720.542.6300.

Also, we wanted to let you know that we are working on an update to the app that will address many of the issues players have been having. I will let you know as soon as it is available.

Thanks Brittany, I am actually glad to hear that the entire shipment was delayed. I was under the impression that maybe you sold out of your first run and I was not a part of that round. I am happier to hear that it was a full delay of the product. Can't wait to hear on Friday!

Just received my POP playtest sensor. I will not be able to hit with it until Friday as I am on kid duty while the wife travels.

However, I wanted to share some quick observations. The packaging I found to slick and elegant. The charging station for the sensor is well designed. I am a big fellow and I was concerned that the wrist band would not be designed for a bigger fellow but that seems fine. I would prefer a wristband without a Velcro closure but that may just be personal preference.

The included quick start quide is brief, but it seems to be sufficient.

I loaded the app on my ipad ... I was a little dismayed to learned that I needed to provide a cell number so that the app would load and work. I would prefer not to provide personal information to a company for the privilege of using the device. If I had paid for it, this alone would probably be enough of an incentive to return it. Since it is free, and I promised to review .... I will. But I want my distaste noted.

All in all, I am anxious to try it out and see what information I get. I plan to record a hitting session and compare the pop analysis to recorded video and see how accurate the data is.

Thanks Babolat and TW

So far, so good. Received mine today, charged, paired, and installed app. Everyrhing went smoothly, charging mechanism is very slick and right up there with any good smart watch. Pretty impressed with the look and navigation of the app. Tracker and interface (light, button, design) are all extremely well thought out and intuitive. Aesthetically, as sexy as it gets for a motion tracker.

Some criticism/suggestions for the tracker and band: Someone mentioned this earlier, but I definitely think a dedicated wrist/sweatband would be much more functional for some. I know not everyone wears sweatbands, but the unit and included band takes up significant real estate on the wrist. Although it's easy enough to simply wear a sweatband over the included band, I think if its not a good option for everyone, it should be cost effective to manufacture a sweatband with slot for the tracker and sell it separately. Little accessories like those are high profit items, and should only help the program sales. Highly recommend a design review of the included wristband as the tracker itself is much more attractive in aesthetics over the band. These are little quibbles that caught my eye upon opening the package, not deal breakers in any way.

Suggestions for the app: I understand there are privacy and development concerns, but the social aspect can be greatly improved if you allow filtering for players in your area. Maybe I missed it, but while users enter location data, and it shows up in the list/ranking of players, there is no way to order the list by area, state, or distance from user. Maybe this is something being cooked up for update? Just a thought.

Hitting/drilling tomorrow early evening, and then a singles flex league match later that night. Looking forward to the data.

I know my suggestions/criticisms look like they take up more space, but they are honestly personal opinions that really won't impact anything. So far so good!

Im interested in hearing about how well the POP provides data about the different swing types and speed and spin. I have some concerns that you wont get the impact location with the POP like you do with the other sensors. I have an application on my smart watch that tells me how many forhands and backhands and how long I was playing. I just have to put my watch on my right hand and turn the application on. The data is very limited, so Im interested to know if the POP can provide deeper information.

I purchased the Babolat Play Pure Drive when it first came out, I had a friend let me try out the ZEPP and now I have the Sony Smart Tennis Sensor.

The Babolat Play was very nice because most people didnt even notice that I had a racket that was tracking my stats. The Play is the best design as it is hidden inside of the handle. The ZEPP was just a waste of my time as it was very uncomfortable to use on the end of the racket handle. The Sony Smart Tennis Sensor is not really noticable and I cant tell it is on the racket when I play. I just wish it was less noticeable.

The Sony Smart Tennis Sensor seems to provide me the best data with different shots and speed and spin. The video fuction is fantastic. The Babolat Play comes in second but it really lacks the procession of providing me my different shot types. I was hoping with firmware updates and application updates they would impove it but I wonder if Babolat put all of their time in the Babolat POP and has forgoten about the Play.

Im a tech guy and love gadgets so Im hoping the POP is really good but I have my doubts.

I had a double match tonight and I was in hurry. I just turned on the device ( I saw the blue light was blinking) then played the match. I thought I can download the data later since pop has memory.
When I came back to home, I tried to download data but seems like there was no data?????
Do I need to pair up the device with app/phone first in order to have/save data?

I think quick start guide needs more detail info.
Especially how to start this device. The quick start guide's first page is what's included, second page is how to wear the device (the pic does not show that the sensor has to wear like watch. It's more like side way). Also the guide did not say the sensor should wear like watch. Third page is status (explain color of light). Forth page is spec, fifth and sixth pages explain app briefly. I thought quick start guide should have step by step process.
For example
1. Turn on the sensor (power bottom = orange Babolat logo)
2. Pair up with app (Bluetooth should be on)
3. Etc....
Ready to play.

I will try it again tomorrow and hope it will work.

I tried the Babolat POP today and had the app loaded, POP showed that it was synced but no data. Any suggestions to what I am doing wrong? Thanks to those more technically advanced than me.

Also I tried putting a wristband over the POP band and it was too bulky, tight and uncomfortable. Maybe would work with an older stretched out wristband.

So the question is, will the Babolat POP store data with just the power being on and not the bluetooth? It seems like it should as all of the other sensors including the Babolat Play do.

This is the first time I use Babolat sensor system so I might did wrong thing but not sure...
I used Zepp and Sony sensor before so I thought I am familiar with sensor technology ^_^
I don't use Sony sensor during the real match because I always worry about racket balance issue from extra weight but I will use both Pop and Sony sensor tonight's drill session. Hope it will work.

Actually I wish I have yours so I can take off the "Pop" letters hahaha
The material is heat transfer material. It can happen all the time because durability of heat transfer material is weak. It depends on quality of material too. cheap materials can fall a part with a few washes and some materials are extremely weak against stretches etc... In your case, manufacturing mistake. Definitely factory worker did not press the heat press machine hard enough to completely adhere.
As a company, it's hard to even choose or concern about heat transfer material. Usually just place a order for wristband with logo using heat transfer material. Usually factory use whatever they have. If I were Babolat, I ask the factory to use stretch heat transfer vinyl material to increase durability since wristband stretches all the time. Still heat transfer material is less durable though.

Problem fixed. I wore it wrong. But it still registers more volleys than I think I've hit. It's maybe registering the touch shots and drop shots as the volleys? Still, I look forward to loading up the hitting session, which actually makes me concentrate more on the strokes and goof around less...

Is POP completely stand alone from PLAY?

Yes, the POP device is separate from Play. Both fall under connected tennis, but POP uses a different app and interface than Play.

However, there is a merged community with the two based on activity score. If you look at the community within POP, you will notice either a wristband or racket next to names, designating POP vs Play.

Is POP an acronym? If so what does it stand for. I was unable to find it when searching.

POP is not an acronym, but rather a catchy term that encompasses the fun, gaming personality of POP.

It would be cool to see who can hit the fastest forehands, serves, etc with all the playtesters. Friendly competition always makes things more fun.

I think that the competition aspect would definitely be fun. In fact, you can challenge friends who also have POP using the challenge feature. It allows you to record a challenge with forehands, backhands, or serves, and send your PIQ score to others to see if they can beat you!

Thanks and look forward to the answers. I will definitely get the pop since I already use other trackers like Garmin for my other activities.

I have some answers for you. The app does not track match statistics over time, like winners, errors, etc. It does, however, keep track of all of your sessions, which you can qualify as a match and manually enter scores for. Moreover, the app itself will not allow you to log in in Hong Kong at the moment. The text verification that sends you a code to log in only works in countries where the products have launched. Currently, that is just the US, but more countries will be coming soon.

I'm excited for you to try the POP device. I do, however, have to let you know that POP does not include an impact locator like the Play rackets do.

Yes, the POP device will work without being connected to bluetooth and just being powered on, as the Play rackets do. However, we highly recommend pairing the device at least once before beginning a session. This will also ensure you have the latest firmware.

Moreover, I want to let you all know that new updates to the iOS and Android versions of the device have been released today. Please download these updates before your next sessions.

Thank you again for the feedback!

In order to evaluate the effectiveness of your game strategy, wouldn't you have to have access to your opponent's POP data...i.e. if my intention was to play more to a weaker forehand rather than a strong backhand, then I would need to see the opponent's data to be able to tell if I was able to execute that over the course of a match? You (Babolat!) could make a case for ordering 2 POPs so that your hitting partners could always have access to a device...maybe a discounted package consisting of 2 sensors called "POP a deuce"! ;)

Update on the POP sensor. I haven't taken it out for a hitting session yet, hopefully get one in today. On the downside this already happened to the wristband.

Has this happened to anyone else? The adhesive for the logos just came off.

It hasn't happened to mine, yet, but it looks like it was incorrectly heat pressed. The part that is peeling off probably didn't get enough pressure or heat. You can probably use the parchment paper and reapply using the iron on low to medium heat.

I'm sorry to see that happening to your wristband. Since you all are beta testing the POP, these are all prototype wristbands. Shoot me an e-mail at msafi@babolat.com, and we can get you a new one.
