I tried the sensor tonight at drill session about two hours. I paired the sensor up with app. I saw the blue light blinking throughout the session. I just came home and paired the sensor up then sync my data. It took a little longer than I thought but anyway about a min later, it was completed. I was excited to see the result BUT I could not find any data.
Activity is just none????
I don't know what I was doing wrong thing but just can't figure out how to work with this device... T_T

BTW. I downloaded new app today and used with new app.

I just received my wristband this morning and I brought it to work for first looks. The box is nice and well packaged, the charging station and sensor are very nice looking and look well built, the wristband looks pretty good (I'm not a fan of the green POP logo on the top but it's not a big deal). Comfort-wise, I wore the wristband by itself for about 30 minutes while the sensor was charging and it was very comfortable. I've been wearing it with the sensor in it for about 2 hours now and at first it was annoying but now I barely notice that it's there, other than the weight. The weight is definitely noticeable but probably wouldn't affect my tennis.

As many people have posted, the Quick Start guide isn't very helpful and the pictures to show you how to wear it are smaller than they should be. Had I not read the posts on this thread, I wouldn't have known to wear it like a watch. The picture in the guide does show it being worn that way but there's no emphasis on it. Also, turning on/off the sensor is not something that's stated instead it just says that there are two buttons that turn it on/off. Honestly, I'm not even sure if I'm doing it right haha.

One major issue I'm having is I can't even sign up through the app. I tried a few days ago before the update and I tried again today, but whenever I put in my phone number it will say "Please Wait" for a second then go back to the phone number screen. I am on Android on an LG G3, if that makes a difference.

Another technical issue, I tried to connect the Babolat POP with my phone through bluetooth and it is asking for a passkey. Any idea what this might be? I have tried both 0000 and 1234.

Once I play , I'll update this post with comfort while playing and sensor readings.

Here's my review...

Devices tested on: Galaxy Note 3 (ATT), LG G2 (Verizon), Nexus 7 tablet (2013).

Tennis experience/background: Picked up tennis again ~3 years ago after a 25 year hiatus. Strokes (and bad habits) have returned.
Describe your playing style (i.e. serve & volley): All court player. Look to end points early: play aggressive and probably move up more than I should.
Current racquet/string setup: Rotate several racquets but my go to stick now is the TecnifibreTFight 315 ATP 16M with Cyclone Tour 18 @45#
How many hours did you play with the Babolat POP? ~5 Hrs of match play and ~5 Hrs of drilling/hitting/practice. Indoor season is here and at $50/Hr I don't play as much as I do during the Summer (no court fees).
Was the device easy to attach to your wrist? Attaches easily and feels secure. I don't wear wrist bands or watches when I play so it was a bit uncomfortable at first but I've gotten used to it. I do think it could be an issue in hot weather.
Was POP a hindrance when playing? Once I got used to it, no hindrance.
How easy was it to upload and view the data on the app? Pretty simple for those technically inclined. Easy to upload and view. But on a couple of sessions, I did have go through multiple attempts before the data synced.
What did you like about the app? Easy enough to download and it looks like Babolat is making updates to both the app and the POP firmware. Hopefully this will continue and the product will become more refined.
What did you dislike about the app? The version I downloaded initially was buggy and did not recognize keyboard input (did accept auto-correct input). Looks like they've since addressed this. However, there is an issue with the device not counting my strokes properly (more posts on this). Until an update is made to address this, I can't properly review the product.
Was there anything you thought was missing? I wish the proprietary charging dock was missing. I don't need yet another thing to lose, break... Would it have been so hard to just build in a Micro USB connector with a dust/waterproof cover?
How did you use the data you received from the app? I do not trust the data since it was WAY off counting my strokes (forehands, backhands, serves, etc). I will come back and update once/if Babolat are able to fix the problem.
What was your overall impression of the sensor? So far just so..so... clearly it's still work in progress. If I can't trust the data from the device, it's a no starter. Hopefully the issue will be resolved and I can come back and update this review.

When you are trying to pair the POP to your phone, are you using your phone's bluetooth interface? If so, that's unnecessary. Pairing the POP just requires you bluetooth to be on, and all pairing is done through the POP App. Click the wristband in the top right corner and select your POP device.

Received my unit yesterday. Review is work in progress but so far... Pairing instructions aren't immediately obvious. Not sure if this will even work but I'm going to try to pair it multiple phones and see if more than 1 person can use the sensor.

For pairing, the POP must be unpaired from one phone before it can be paired with another.

Also, if you all could provide the following information, I can forward all issues to our connected tennis team to be resolved.

-Phone (Brand and Model)
- OS (and version)
-Firmware version

Thanks so much, and we will work on getting this resolved as soon as possible.

so kind of a big issue. might be a phone issue though.

i had the tracker sync'd prior to hitting sessions. then it did the updates (firmware and app) and then i finally played some sessions (2 total). I tried to sync, and it crashes everytime i hit "start" in the tracker section where you sync the data.

i tried 3 times, then uninstalled app, unpaired tracker, and reinstalled/re-paired everything. still crashes. Here's the thing that makes me think it's a phone issue (I have a HTC One M8 verizon) - when it crashes, i always see a "what program do you want to use to share" or something like that and lists stuff like "bluetooth" and "gmail" and others.

not sure what to do to get it to sync, but i will try to download the app on my ipad next. hopefully, we can figure something out to get it to work with my phone so i can view data closer to the hitting sessions since i dont lug my ipad with me

I'm sorry to hear your having these difficulties! I'm assuming your using Android OS then?

I will forward these issues to our product team and see what they can do to resolve them. In the meantime, I would try rebooting the phone as well if you haven't already.

That's what I thought; however, this is a problem because the app itself isn't working for me. I can't register my phone number.

I am using an LG G3 on Android OS 5.1
I'm not sure about Firmware version of the POP since I can't get it connected.

Thank you for the help!

Just an update for everyone. I've also been having problems with getting results to show up. I have tried to sync 7 different sessions, with only 2 that has shown up. The two results were my longest hitting sessions, lasting over an hour. The other results that didn't show up were under 15 mins. I'm not sure why this happens but I've already talked with Mansoor @Babolat Official and he is looking into it.

Oh one more thing, in one of my sessions, it listed my Best Rally at 72 shots and my Best Shot at 284 mph. My second session, my Best Rally was 235 shots and Best Shot 106 mph. The 106 mph seems possible, but everything else is a little buggy. I guess Babolat still needs to update some of their formulas.

I'm in contact with our product team and they are working on figuring out what may be occurring. Stay tuned for details.

Also, have you checked to see if you're in mph vs km/h settings? I've been in that situation before, so it may be worth checking. Will post updates soon.

Good news. I downloaded version 1.1 of the iOS app and it's working better now. I went outside and hit a few forehands and some volleys off a wall. Synced up no problem and I was able to see and categorize the activity. I have a match later today, so I will make sure I wear it for that.

One question about firmware - I expected there to be an update, but the app says that my firmware is already up to date. Mine is showing v6.34.1740. What do you guys have?

Nice work on the app update PIQ!

It looks like that update fixed my issue. It said it downloaded 3 sessions (only had 2) but only 1 session is showing up. Other than that, it sync'd without crashing, and the duration of time of the 1 session it sync'd seems accurate. Data seems more or less like what i would have expected. I did classify it incorrectly, i wish there was a way to fix that. I put down "open session" instead of "match". but now i know better.

Everything is working fine for me. One question I have is the durability of the device against sweat. I'm pretty sure its made to withstand some moisture, but can it continue to be reliable when it's surrounded by sweat for a couple of hours? It can get drenched.

Is there anywhere that shows how to transfer data from a hitting session to the app? Will pairing the iPhone and the device simply do that? Thought I would try that after reloading the app. Thanks

If you go to the activity tab, you can then click on the wristband in the upper right corner, and it should offer to sync any new sessions. Have you tried that yet?

Yes, the moisture from sweat should not affect the POP sensor's functionality. However, I definitely don't recommend dropping it in the pool! :)

Not since reloading the app. Maybe the Babolat POP is rejecting my data because I am not good enough! The old adage - If you can't say something nice don't say anything at all!

Ha, I doubt that. POP does its best to be welcoming of all levels of play, even one as lowly as mine :)

4th day of testing.
I played round robin for two hours tonight. Came back home and did same thing.
Paired the device up then click Sync the device.
Just like yesterday, it downloaded data. It took around 1-2min. Slower than I thought. After sync, Still I did not see any data...

Probably 9.0.2 IOS issue????

First day with the POP. Played for about 2 hours with it and it felt great. The wristband got pretty sweaty but was comfortable throughout the session. When I went to sync the session onto the app, I ran into some problems. I had previously connected the POP to my phone. I went to sync the data and it seemed to be taking a while to download. So I put the sensor and my phone in my pocket and waited.

When I checked back on it, the screen was just on the blank activities page as if nothing was downloaded. There was still something there to sync still, but when I downloaded that session is was only 1 minute long. I am hopeful about trying it again and having it work.

I synced with the sensor tonight. The app showed the session loading but I can't see the data anywhere. Very frustrated. Any suggestions?
That must be frustrating. Have you tried installing the app on perhaps other devices, like the tablets to see if it may just be the phone issue? It's actually pretty fun to see the data afterwards... So far, I think the sensor is telling me, I've over-rated my skills... I am trying my best to show the device that I wasn't bs'ing about my skills... Sometimes the results make me smile, and sometimes (especially after a session of serve practice), I was embarrassed to show the results to my buddies. FWIW, I thought I consistently served over 100mph easily, which wasn't the case.

The device may not capture everything correctly, but it does make me analyze my game and gives me the motivation to work on my tennis, instead of just hitting leisurely. It's a good thing that is also fun.

Hey all,

I wanted to update you guys on some of the issues/feedback you’ve provided during this Babolat POP pre-launch test. With your help, we’ve identified a bug when recording sessions over 30 minutes in length. The result is trouble syncing, lost/inaccurate data, and “split” sessions. The development team is working around the clock to resolve the issue (as well as the others you’ve identified). Once these are fixed, they will push the necessary updates to iOS and Android.

Please continue to email bugs/feedback/suggestions to me: msafi@babolat.com

-Phone (Brand and Model)
-Operating System (and version)
-POP Firmware version

I’ll continue to update you as I get information from the development team.

Thanks again for being part of the process as we grow the connected tennis experience for all consumers. We couldn’t do it without you.

How would an accelerometer device attached to your wrist know how fast you serve?

It doesn't, i know this because I know that $80 is way too cheap for them to include magic.

You really have to confirm speed with radar or high frame video analysis.

Of course, the data is not 100% accurate, but I think it does give rough ideas. I also understand the cost factor.
To me, this is not a teaching tool. It is a fun, digital toy for the tennis enthusiasts. I think the device offers the "fun" factor to enhance the playing experience. For me, I will definitely concentrate on putting more juice the next time I serve to see if there will be any difference/improvements.
To be more accurate and be usable as a teaching tool, it will need more sensors to detect and translate the information correctly. I guess there will be more to come, and this is just the beginning.

I think between the racket inertia differences and wrist pronation the actual ball speed can be off by a lot. I'd guesstimate around 40%...although of course we don't know what kind of assumptions PIQ ball speed estimator makes compared to your technique.

I agree with you 100% here, but after reading all of these problems I am already regretting my $90 purchase and I have not even received the item yet. At least you guys got to do it for free as a play test.

I called TW yesterday and was told they were on back order until October 16, so i requested to cancel my order. She then found that my order had been processed, which she said meant that one was scheduled to go out on Monday for me. I told her I would call back at the end of the day Monday, and if it has not shipped still I will push hard for my refund.
This is nothing more than a visual toy and electronic gadget, but it can help you to strive to PLAY more and get better.

I think POP can be useful to keep more exact track of your tennis activity.

How many hours did you play any given week / day / month ? How many swings per hour (intensity) ? How many backhands do you hit vs forehands? How many impacts until your string job pops?

Honestly, though, even if is made less serious than an actual teaching tool, it does give me ideas on what I should focus on to improve my game. I like the fact that it makes me want to play more.

Maybe someone who has played with other sensors and play frames can chime in, but I think the sensors will only help us to play more and try to improve. I think that is the purpose of the sensors for now..., and we will soon see more devices in the future, which will actually be used as teaching tools.

I want to clarify a point that seems to be confusing some people about POP. POP does NOT measure serve/stroke speed. Rather, it is measuring your swing speed. The actual speed of the ball would depend on many different factors, some of which you all have already pointed out.

Right, so mhkeuns, that mph reading is not ball speed, it is how fast your forearm is moving. Meaning you may very well have 100+ mph serve.

I tried downloading a third session on my wife's iPhone 6 Plus yesterday. She has iOS 8 and once again I was unsuccessful in getting the data to even show that it was downloading. I then tried on my iPhone 6 with the latest version of iOS 9 and it showed the download happening but no visible data afterwards. Babolat Official should I wait for your team to resolve the issue or is this user error?

Thanks. It's something new for me, and I am still learning the device. Still very interesting. Just waking up and getting ready to play and record the session again. I don't know why, but it has been more fun hitting using the device. In that sense, the device provides the fun factor, like a kid playing with his/her favorite toy. Was kind of bummed that I was not chosen as the Pure Aero Tour playtester, but testing this device has been more fun than playing with a new frame. It will be interesting to see if there will be additional sensor accessories in the future to enhance the experience & to help translate the actual feedback from the frame. Being able to calculate both hitting arm and the frame action could results in real accurate data.

It's going to be miserably hot today in SoCal. Sounds kind of gross, but I am going to be soaked, and this will be a serious sweat-proof test for the device.

It's funny, though, how I try my best to hit with the most textbook strokes or try to play better when I record myself... I guess I don't want the device telling me to look for other sports to play...

Let us know if there is an update and what your experience with it is.

Are you turning the sensor on, pairing it at least once, and then playing a session with it? Afterwards, are you going to the activity section, clicking the wristband in the top right corner, and still not getting results?

If so, it sounds like you are doing things right, and we are working to resolve many of these syncing issues that people have been having. I'm in contact with our development team and they are working on a solution as we speak.

I tried exactly what you said but I have an exact problem like Geoff.
I thought the sensor might be defective but I strongly think that the issue is derived from App.

I am wondering it's only me and Geoff have this problem...

Does Anyone have a success with IOS 9.0.2?

Thanks for the update. I will forward these details to the development team. I know they are working on solutions right now, and I will keep you all posted with coming updates.
