My phone is getting serviced and won't be getting it back for a week. Just getting the part replaced and the phone will be not resetted.

I just played today without having it paired to the phone. Just wondering if my sessions will be stored and be ready to be uploaded once synced with the phone?

Or, could I download the app to my other devices to continue to upload the sessions since I made an account already? Would that cause any problem?
I have it paired to my personal and work phone. iphone/samsung respectively. so far the iphone was getting sync'd up but would crash afterwards. on my other phone it said there was an error. i haven't tried the samsung again. one thing to know is that you need to unpair it prior to syncing with another phone. that part is simple

You can definitely record a session on the device without it being connected to the phone, so long as you paired it once before to your account. It should store on the POP sensor itself.

I have not tried downloading syncing to the same account on different devices yet, though I do have two devices with the same account on it. I can look into whether or not this will cause any syncing issues, though I do not imagine it will. As @djNEiGht mentioned, you must unpair from one device before pairing with another, though.

Also, please note that you use your phone number when creating or logging into an account. If you do not have access to your phone/SMS services at that phone number, you will not be able to log into your account on another device.

Tried the sensor tonight at a drill session.
Synced the data but strangely I have two exactly same data under unqualified session.
Is it possible to delete one data?
I don't know why it showed two same data???

Yes, if you swipe left on a session, the option to delete should appear (on iOS, at least. I will check on Android as well).

Woohoo! Just came back from an hour and a half hitting session and some of the data uploaded. Only 36 minutes showed up in the activity tracker so I don't know what happened to the other hour. A step in the right direction I guess. I'll give it another shot when I play my match on Saturday. One comment I can make so far is that it would be nice if the wrist strap for the sensor was an actual wristband. I caught myself trying to wipe my sweat with the wriststrap a few times lol.

Hit with the Pop with my PDPlay tonight. Haven't used Play for a while and it seems a bit different. I can't see the community feed and rankings.

Will discuss more but shot count was off. Play recorded 10 more shots than Pop

Did the firmware update, checked for app updates (didn't see any since my last post)

I have 4 sessions sitting in POP, but cannot get them to upload. They are all 30minutes or less.

going to try another round of uninstall, reboot, re-pair tracker, etc etc and see if it will sync.

Got my Pop, and a nice little $25 gift card for the backorder issue from TW, very nice addition. The firmware update was no problem and I used it today successfully with Android 4.4.2.

First, I have a 2 and 4 year old so I rarely get to play anymore, and I have not used by ball machine in literally 2+ years.....so the POP is a success because it made me want to play again.

I broke it up into a a couple of sessions to compare racquets that I am between....then did 2 sessions of 20 serves with each frame. The only weird thing was the serve sessions registered 5 and 3 smashes instead of all serves, but not the end of the world by any means.

Couple of questions though;

1. Does pressing the button on the sensor during play do anything? If there a way to break into sessions without syncing with the phone?
2. So the community section is a cool idea, but it took a while for a session to show up and for my score to change from 0. It changed to an Activity score of 226 and shows 2 training sessions....but I have 5 sessions registered. Is there something I need to do for that information to update? It looks like the first 2 sessions were captured for my community score after about 10 minutes, but it has been over an hour now and the other 3 are not registering. Any thoughts or ideas here?

Sorry, but just wanted to update that the other 3 sessions appeared in my community , although I am not sure and would like to know if it was something I did or if it just takes some time?

On the PDPlay you can press one of the buttons to break up sessions. On the POP i just turned it off and turned it back on. I wonder if there is something else that can be done other than doing that.

I saw that for the Play and liked the idea, I guess I figured it would be the same here.

The quick instructions are HORRIBLE for this thing, like another user mentioned it absolutely makes it look like the sensor is supposed to be on the side of wrist not the top like a watch. It also does not give much help for sessions and how to break them up while playing, obviously.

Received my unit yesterday. Review is work in progress but so far... Pairing instructions aren't immediately obvious. Not sure if this will even work but I'm going to try to pair it multiple phones and see if more than 1 person can use the sensor.

For pairing, the POP must be unpaired from one phone before it can be paired with another.

It took me multiple attempts to un-pair from one phone and pair it to another. The app kept displaying that I needed to un-pair from the old device prior to pairing to a new one. I had to re-pair and un-pair multiple times on the old phone before the new phone was able to pair.

Babolat might want to reconsider how this works... What if I lose/give away/sell/break my phone without un-pairing the POP? IMO it should always allow pairing to a new device while retaining prior hitting/practice/match sessions.

Also... If I do lose my phone... Is there a way to hard-reset the POP back to factory default?

Still working on the review (actually... 2 people are using the device and working on the review)...

I think you can unpair the device from your phone by rapidly pressing the on/off button 5 times. When you do that you'll get a fast flashing blue light and it will continue to flash for quite a long time, at least it did for me.

Bug Report...

Played 2 matches yesterday. Singles and mixed doubles. Lost the singles miserably at 2 and 3 but won the mixed doubles soundly at 1 and 2. Qualified/entered data. App shows both as MATCH WON. Checked the scores and I did enter correctly.

Also indicates 351 shots for the singles match and 83 for the doubles. While we won quickly (little over an Hr including a 15 minute warm up), 83 shots (5 shots per game) seems a bit low.

I got selected for the playtest.... very excited!!! I already have suggestions without even doing the playtest.... I wish Babolat or another manufacturer would partner with a smartwatch manufacturer and come up with the app that doesn't require a unique piece of hardware... I'd be willing to pay more for the app and wear my smartwatch r a fitness device with an accelerometer on my right hand rather than purchase yet another piece of HW that I have to charge, bring, wear, etc... How cool would this be if it worked with your Apple Watch or Samsung Gear S2?

Makes sense in theory but actually playing real tennis in those watches? Don't know if that can work. They are 40+ grams (double sweatband is about 30 grams) not too bad but significant additional weight to consider and probably more annoyingly this watch will be swimming in your sweat and cutting/rubbing your wrist.

Pop is a washable soft cloth like a sweatband and would be more seamless.

Weighed my wife's Galaxy Gear Fit - 27 grams. The POP with the wrist band is 20 grams. I used to have a fitbit and from my recollection it weighed much less than the Gear Fit. So I think it's possible to make it work given a fitness oriented smartwatch/wristband but I do get your point wrt the comfort but then again Nadal has a 2 hander and wears a massive watch on his non-dominant hand.

How many hours did you play with the Babolat POP? : 20 hours

Was the device easy to attach to your wrist? It was easy to attach the device to my wrist. It did take some time to get used to because it requires the fabric to break in.

Was POP a hindrance when playing? : It didn’t bothered me while I was rallying with this device.

How easy was it to upload and view the data on the app? There was a lengthy sync time when I wanted to see my practice data. The max upload time I seen so far was 3min. But I never done it in multiple parts like the other playtester does.

What did you like about the app? I like the interference of the app. Its very easy to navigate through and looks organized.

What did you dislike about the app?: Registering my information into the app was one of the issues I encountered. When inputting my information, the text that I type didn’t show up in the box and its hard to see what im typing. Everytime I press next, it leaves the autosuggestion on the box instead of the proper information I inputted. Another issue I have is categorizing my sessions. Sometimes the app crashes after categorizing it, for example: “outdoor, Hardcourt, and excited mood”. It takes a couple of times for the app to recognize my data.

Was there anything you thought was missing?: I missed the strike zone system that I see with their Play technology. I really like that feature because it helps me determine where I’m hitting at and find ways to improve my stroke. I also see the system as more comparing your stats to other people rather than getting the complete detail of your play style.

How did you use the data you received from the app? Would use this data to evaluate on my performance in a daily basis. Also its fun to compare different statistics against other players in a global scale This gives a friendly competition and promote us to play tennis more to determine who have the better stats on our tennis.

What was your overall impression of the sensor? It’s a start for connected tennis. Although most companies are changing their direction into the digital age. It is easy to use and I can use this sensor to any racket I want compared to Sony’s sensor which is racket picky. Also the Babolat Play only applies to their line of rackets and not any of the frames I played. However, the setdown of this sensor is the lack of ball contact location that I favor greatly. Another issue was the app itself.

Good question. I don't know for sure on the breaking up into sessions, but I will look into it. It sounds like the sessions synced after the fact, but it's good to have this feedback. I will definitely mention it to the development team.

As someone else mentioned, if you press the button on the device 5 times in a row, the light on the device should flash rapidly for a short time. When the light stops flashing, the device will have reset and you can pair the sensor to a new phone/tablet. Let me know if you are still having issues.

Thanks for the review! I understand that it is nice to have the impact locator, and I, too, appreciate that feature of the Play racket. However, with a wearable device that can be used with any racket and any player, having an impact locator is not feasible at the moment. Luckily, the Play rackets do and will have that feature.

Also, I wanted to let you all know that I am currently at the Babolat HQ in Lyon, France. My responses may come at strange times due to the time difference (& jet lag :)) but I will still be available!

Seriously, may as well complain that POP doesn't wash windows and take out the garbage.

Former teaching pro - USPTA certified
Played D1 college tennis.
Currently ranked in 55s

Describe your playing style:
Playing style has been historically a counterpuncher, consistent (grinder/pusher)
Working on more of an all court game (better late than never)

Current racquet/string setup:
Of course whatever Roger uses!
Wilson RF97 strung with Wilson Natural Gut mains (24kg) and Luxilon ALU Rough crosses (23kg)

How many hours did you play with the Babolat POP?
To date successfully (see other posts) 10 hours

Was the device easy to attach to your wrist?
No issues at all. The included instructions were very clear

Was POP a hindrance when playing?
It was light enough that i did not notice it. I tried to wear a wristband over it and that made the combination very uncomfortable. I kept the Babolat POP on my wrist and moved the wristband to the right (I am right handed).

How easy was it to upload and view the data on the app?
Before the firmware and app updates impossible. After the good work by the Babolat team it was fast and easy.

What did you like about the app?
Easy to upload to my phone
Easy to navigate
The social interaction is interesting (for those that like to do social digital interactions)

What did you dislike about the app?
Some of the colors chosen are hard to read (light green)
Speed values were not clear what they measured
Style value is very ambiguous and subjective

Was there anything you thought was missing?
I am a bit familiar with the Sony Smart Tennis Sensor and feel that is the best sensor device with the data that it can capture. Being able to analyze strokes with an accompanying video is a feature that I would like to see part of the Babolat POP. I think the current videos could show more detail on syncing, interpreting results, etc.

How did you use the data you received from the app?
The data showed that I am not very good! I think that sensors can be a great teaching aid. Looking at baseline results and then seeing how one progresses through quantitative results. Personally for me it was a curiosity scenario to see what the data said on my initial sessions. I do not foresee myself using the social aspects of the device.

What was your overall impression of the sensor?
Past the initial issues that have been discussed it is very easy to use. I see it as more of a fun, social device that can be used by all levels. I think the appeal could be very strong for the younger generation. It's an affordable way to enter into the sensor world no matter what the racquet is.

Current racquet/string setup: Babolat Pure Aero with Solinco Tour Bite 17g at 55lbs
How many hours did you play with the Babolat POP? 8 hours and counting
Was the device easy to attach to your wrist? The wristband seems high quality and is similar to putting on a watch or fitbit.
Was POP a hindrance when playing? I completely forgot that I was wearing the POP during my time, and found that I would continue wearing it after play sessions inadvertently. The only issue I had wearing it while playing was that I usually wear a wristband on my right wrist and I accidentally tried wiping sweat off of my forehead with the POP which didn't feel great, but that is more my fault than anything.
How easy was it to upload and view the data on the app? There has been a lot of discussion and improvements to the app since day one and I'm confident that the POP development team will continue to make the app more reliable and user friendly. My most recent hitting session from this morning imported without incident.
What did you like about the app? For iOS, it seems relatively small and fast.
What did you dislike about the app? I think it needs to have some sort of wizard on startup to walk new users through device pairing and first session as well as the sync.
Was there anything you thought was missing? Nothing is missing, just some things that need clarification like in the Quick Start Guide. Needs a better step-by-step walkthrough on setting the device up and getting on court.
How did you use the data you received from the app? I would say that I was able to see when I was "on" and when I was "off" by looking at the numbers. Days where I didn't feel as good showed lower numbers and I was able to tie that into how I was eating, exercising, sleeping etc. This helped me make changes to improve my chances of playing better tennis on a more consistent basis.
What was your overall impression of the sensor? Overall, I'd say it's a great little tool to breakdown what kinds of shots you tend towards, and you can use that info to analyze how you played. And I'm really impressed with how Babolat has supported the rollout of this new device. Looking forward to more from them.

Big thanks to TW and Babolat for allowing me to test the POP!

If you did not, that is perhaps why the data shows both matches as won instead of loss. Entering the scores alone will not record the match as a win/loss. The actual indicator mentioned above must be toggled to the appropriate result.

What do you mean by a private setting? You can choose who to send, and as a result, who sees your challenge results.

I think i'm still having some trouble understanding the purpose of a private setting. Can you describe when you would be using such a feature?

When you create a challenge, you perform the strokes in that challenge, and the data appears on your device (phone/tablet) in real time. Then, you see the average PIQ score, and you are able to choose to send it to others. If you decide not to send it to anyone, you simply hit the back button in the top left corner and that challenge is erased.

Of course, the challenge features allows you to compete with others and adds a social aspect to POP. However, you will always have the choice of whether or not to send a challenge after viewing your results.

How many hours did you play with the Babolat POP? 10 hrs +
Was the device easy to attach to your wrist? very easy, wristband is well designed for function. Could use some help on aesthetics. The tracker unit itself is excellent, the band is very generic.
Was POP a hindrance when playing? Was very unobtrusive, although I would prefer to be able to use the wristband as a sweat band as well. Already elaborated this in previous posts. Otherwise, the tracker is non-obtrusive.
How easy was it to upload and view the data on the app? When it's working, it is great. However, I was only successful in getting 1 session out of 8 uploaded. Others either are still sitting in the tracker, unable to sync or sync'd but was lost and unretrievable. Meaning, it sync'd the session but does not show up in the results.
What did you like about the app? The app itself is great. It is cleanly designed, intuitive to use, results are well displayed, infographics are well thought-out. Sufficiently interactive during direct use and out of the way and not annoying when not in use (doesn't cause ads, no pop ups when not in use, etc etc)
What did you dislike about the app? The app does not allow you to re-categorize sessions. For example, my 1 session that was successful in sync-ing (separate issue, elaborated after this) I mistakenly categorized as "open" when I should have categorized as "match". Maybe this will be added later or I have an older build app, but I was unable to change the type of session. This is a small issue and is a non-issue if I didn't mess up in the first place. My main dislike about the app is related to issues during sync. Mainly, it crashes during sync. I tried every way I can think of (update app, update firmware, restart phone, un-pair and re-pair tracker) and it still crashes and I can't get any of the sessions to upload. Before this, on one occasion, i was able to sync and was able to net 1 session (I had 3 at that time, but only 1 loaded). The other issue relating to sync is that if you have multiple sessions, it does not sync or load all of them... in my last instance where I was able to sync, only 1 loaded out of 3. I'm not sure what happened to the other sessions. If the development team wants more info, I will happily provide more info, but I've been sending reports almost every time it crashes during sync.
Was there anything you thought was missing? The app could probably use some small additions. Social things like ability to add friends, or find friends to play with by distance, etc. These are all very minor and unnecessary.
How did you use the data you received from the app? The data is interesting. It does add an aspect to the "after play report" that I didn't have before. It helps quantify feelings of "I played really well" or "I played tight/conservative". It should prove to be useful. Unfortunately, until I can load more sessions, it will be limited for me.
What was your overall impression of the sensor? I'm limiting my response to this until i can get the full experience. 1 loaded (out of 8) session is not enough to allow me to get a good feeling for my overall impression.

Hey all,

Thank you for all of your helpful feedback thus far. It has been immensely helpful for us on the development side to continue to refine the product and provide you all with the best experience. I know that the development team is working on the product constantly. There will be another app update that comes out soon, and we will let you know as soon as it is available. Stay tuned.

In the meantime, please keep sending me feedback, either on this thread or at msafi@babolat.com. I'm here to help! Also, if you could report errors through the app (under Settings), that will help streamline getting feedback to the developers.

Thanks!

Ahh... Operator error. That said, the app should be able to "figure out" who won the match.. No? Or at least the ability to go back and edit...

Attention Talk Tennis Members:

We will be playtesting a limited number of Babolat POP (sensor wristbands). This device records useful data about your strokes and then the data is uploaded from the device to an app on your smartphone or tablet. This playtest is only for U.S.A Talk Tennis members (lower 48).

I'm not in your test but I own the pop. I am having issues with it only capturing about 50% of my sessions , is anyone else having this issue and is there a way to fix it ?
Thx

Describe your playing style (i.e. serve & volley): baseliner, working on all court
Current racquet/string setup: wilson PS97 with volkl cyclone

I noticed you only had 1/8 sessions load up. Do you have the latest firmware and app updates? Moreover, were those 7 that did not sync up occurring before or after the app and firmware updates?

Also, can you post your:

Phone (brand and model)
OS (and version):
Firmware version:

Thanks,
Mansoor

Hi Rolly,

Can you elaborate on what is occurring? Are you going to sync and it is not syncing all of your sessions? Also, can you provide me with the following:

Phone (brand and model):
OS (and version):
Firmware version:

Some of the issues you are having may be because of an older version of the app and/or older sensor firmware. Updating both should hopefully resolve your syncing issues.

Hmm, are you wearing the sensor properly (like a watch on your dominant wrist, POP logo right side up with the sensor inside the wristband with Babolat logo right side up)?

Recalling from memory... I wore it on my right hand. If I look at my wrist (like I am looking at a watch), the logo (both the band and the device) were rightside up.

3. Yonex Regna ( Babolat Tonic gut 15L @56 main and MSV focus hex 18g @53 cross)

How many hours did you play with the Babolat POP? Slightly over 12 hours

Was the device easy to attach to your wrist?
I don't have thick wrists and I use a wrist wrap but still it was very easy to attach.

Was POP a hindrance when playing?
For the first time, I wore pop wristband with the sensor. it was a little uncomfortable since I don't even wear watches. I usually wear wrist wrap so I was a little concern that wether I can wear both at the same time or not but I could wear pop over my wrist wrap. A little bulky look but actually I could not even notice it's on my wrist. wearing pop over wrist wrap was beneficial because all sweats absorbed into wrist wrap.

How easy was it to upload and view the data on the app?
Download sync time is longer than any other devices so it should be improved.
It took more than one min to sync.
Other than download sync time, it was easy to upload and view the data.

What did you like about the app?
Easy to sync or pair up the sensor.
I don't use challenger feature but it is good feature which other sensors do not offer.

What did you dislike about the app?
graphic and letters should be bigger and more colorful. I even missed important data because of small letters.
Editing function should be in sessions. There were several unqualified sessions and I accidentally put wrong category but app is not allowed to change.

Was there anything you thought was missing?
I prefer to have two wristbands in the package so I can alternate when I wash the wristband. Quick start guide needs more detail information. Someone mention about a pouch and it could be good idea. Sony sensor has a pouch so anyway I will put everything in the Sony sensor pouch though.

How did you use the data you received from the app?
This is the first time I use a sensor during match. Definitely my average swing speeds were slightly lower due to consistency. I will continue to monitor and will try to close gaps.

What was your overall impression of the sensor?
The first impression was very good. packaging and designs are solid especially I really liked a magnetic charger.
The package looks unnecessarily large for this small device. I understand that Babolat tried to have more protections for the sensor since sensors can be very sensitive but I think The package can be reduced in a half size without damaging sensitive sensor. Also design for the front package can be better. The sensor itself is well designed modern look device but I don't understand why wristband was in the picture instead of the pic of sensor. People might not understand what kind of product it is when they initially see the package.
someone mention about logo in the wristband. As soon as I opened the box I could see Big Green "Pop" logo. I did not feel that it's too big but when I wear in my wrist, "Pop" letter looks big.
Honestly I prefer to see Babolat logo instead of big green "pop" letters.
Put green letters on top
put Babolat logo in the center
keep it same on bottom.

People will more recognize or curious about the device when they see Babolat logo instead of big green "Pop" letters.

*Need to be Improved
Volley should be divided into forehand and backhand.

Serve data: I wish the sensor can distinguish between first serves and second serves.
Or even provide serve information for flat serves and spin serves.

Benefit
Unlike Zepp, Sony sensor, I don't need to worry too much about additional sensor weight and I can instantly use the pop at real matches. I occasionally used Zepp and Sony sensors during practices but never used those during matches because weight changing might cause my timing.
"Grab and go/playing" is most distinctive feature for "Pop".

I tested two sensors at the same time ( Sony sensor and pop. I already wrote brief comparison between two). There was some differences but it's acceptable rate.

One more suggestion. I like the modern look sensor design and Babolat should experiment with watch band. Idea of Wristband was good but watch band might look better. Nowadays You can use 3D printer to make some prototypes easily.

I do appreciate to TW and Babolat for this playing test opportunity.

HI,

Galaxy S6
Android 5.1.1

I can sync to it the problem is there is nothing there to download , I played 2hrs last night (yes I had it on) and there is no session there like it didn't record anything to download .
I did get a notice when I first downloaded the app (about a week ago) that I needed to update it and I did . I have downloaded other sessions it's just not getting them all .
thx

So Andy/Chris are wearing the strap 2 different ways here (the sensor could be inside the pouch the same way). So assuming the sensor is in the same orientation as the strap, which is the correct way?

Interesting. Keep us posted on what is going on, and in the meantime, I will communicate your experience to the development team.

As @TW Staff stated, Chris is wearing the wristband correctly.

Tried uploading information from hitting session last night
I recently updated my iPhone iOS & was still able to sync to the sensor without any problems - I did have problems with syncing data

iPhone 6 iOS 9.0.2
Pop app v6.34.1752

Tennis experience/background: Played varsity high school tennis & USTA mens 4.0 league
Describe your playing style (i.e. serve & volley): allcourter
Current racquet/string setup: Yonex AI 100/ volkl cylcone 57 lbs
How many hours did you play with the Babolat POP? 4 hours
Was the device easy to attach to your wrist? easy to wear for someone like myself who doesn't usually wear wristbands
Was POP a hindrance when playing? got used to it & forgot about it after a while - no hindrance unless strapped on too tight & gets uncomfortable
How easy was it to upload and view the data on the app? Viewing the data is not a problem. Syncing the data takes much longer than one would expect. my phone would autolock due to the long sync time - I assumed it synced while so but after unlocking the phone, I found it did not complete data syncing & I had to do it all over again
syncing data to the app is time consuming & does not always transfer all hitting sessions - some sessions are missing or lost
What did you like about the app? tracking playing/hitting stats. easy user interface - for my experience, syncing the phone to the sensor is pretty easy
What did you dislike about the app?would be nice to be able to edit entries - if you make a mistake labeling info, there's no way to correct it; selecting the field on the pie graph shots breakdown that you wish to view more info is difficult for small entries that are difficult to select on the screen - I had much trouble selecting the serve stats which were always a small entry (even though I served many times)
The last 20-30 min worth of hitting at the end of each playing session never showed up on the app - the app showed there was data to upload. I would sync it to completion but could never find it.
Was there anything you thought was missing? need more details on shot selection if possible; as one user mentioned, differentiation between forehand & backhand volleys would be nice; swing speed on smash would be nice as well.
How did you use the data you received from the app? it gives some insight in to my playing style & shots but I am still unsure how useful it is - especially since I feel it is not really accurate info
What was your overall impression of the sensor? I feel it's a great concept & would be useful to help train & improve gameplay but the info needs to be a little more accurate

I am grateful to Tennis warehouse & Babolat for this opportunity & will do my best to continue playtesting this device & adding feedback & my experience.
