Just strung up my set. Pics to follow. String has a very obvious star shape. Feels a bit wiry in the hand, but not a major pain to string. In the hand the string is stiff, but after bouncing a few balls on the stringbed it does not seem as though this will translate into a stiff feeling string during play. The color is also very optic and noticeable (though not in a bad way). Excited to try this out!

Diadem Solstice Power 16

Tension(s) used for playtest: 55 Mains, 53 Crosses

Regular string set-up: Clarke Poly Power Pro at same tension

Racquet brand and model used for test: Yonex EZone XI 98

Power of test string: It's got pop for sure. Power was fairly easy to attain, but there was definitely control at the same time. It's not the most powerful poly i've hit, but its certainly above average in terms of poly strings

Feel (Stiff? Mushy? Muted? Crisp?): The string was interesting. I'd say it was very soft and had tons of pocketing. It wasn't muted, but it wasn't crisp either... the sweet-spot felt fantastic.

Spin: This is where the string really started to shine. Balls took a dive late— the spin really kept the power in check. Topspin was fantastic, but backspin was even more remarkable. My slices were landing deep and staying low, and I was rather impressed. Went out and played a match after stringing, and my opponent remarked on one changeover that he just couldn't handle my slice. Very consistent spin and consistent throughout the life of the string.

Comfort: Another positive for this string. In a somewhat stiff, open pattern, strung at mid, this string gave me know pain in my arm/shoulder/elbow/wrist. I was very impressed. During stringing, I imagined it might be a tad stiff as the string felt stiff in the hand, but this did not translate into any bad vibrations on the court!

Durability: After two playing sessions, the string looked like it was holding up well both in physical durability and tension maintenance. Now about 15 hours in, I see some of the shape fading, though spin is still way above average. I don't feel like it's going to break for a few more hours either.

Playability Duration (share thoughts on if/how the playability changed over time): The tension dropped off at around 6.5 hours. But the power increase was kept in check by the awesome spin. I feel I could've strung a tad tighter. But the awesome part of this string is that after the initial tension drop, It still plays awesome for the duration of its life.

Control (predictable trajectory? Easy to control depth? performance on different strokes and swing speeds?): If you put power on one end of a spectrum and control on the other, Id say that this string is a smidge closer to the power side (looking at poly strings in specific). There was certainly an ability to hit out as this was a poly, but my shots were landing noticeably more deep, and at times I was too long. Thankfully spin helped keep the ball in. It was however easy to control depth when I was able to control a point. Directional control was awesome as I could pull fast- whippy strokes to keep the ball short as well. I had a bit of trouble flattening out, and this is where I felt control was lacking, but I changed my strokes to hit spinnier winners.

Compare the performance characteristics to the string you use most often: Spin was better, Power was a touch higher, Tension maintenance was about the same. Control was slightly lower. Comfort was better, Feel was a bit better.

Tension recommendations (after hitting it, would you recommend a different tension? Why?)I think I could've gone up to 56/54 or 57/55 just to have better depth control on flatter shots, but i'm not too disappointed with my decision.

Thank you very much to Diadem and Tennis Warehouse for the opportunity.I may consider switching to this string!

Played about four hours with this string today. Full review is in the works, but I'd say you definitely want to bump up tension on this string a few pounds if you're used to stiffer, deader polys. I went up 2 lbs and wish I'd have gone up 4.

Received the string and strung it up in my Yonex xi 98 at 48#. Played a few games of 21 with it

I concur with MisterP on bumping the tension up a bit. I should have done it at 50ish.

Full review coming after i play a full match with it.

Tension(s) used for playtest -- I used 48 on a stringway

Regular string set-up -- I been using a combination of Yonex pro tour 125 and kis blk shark 17
both at around # 46

Racquet brand and model used for test -- Yonex XI 98

Power of test string -- I felt the string had a lot of power. I needed to put extra spin on the ball
to keep it in play. I felt that all my normal shots worked fine otherwise.

Feel (Stiff? Mushy? Muted? Crisp?) I think the string at 48# is a bit springy. Its not a bad feel i just felt i need to stick extra spin on my Normal fh to keep it in.

Spin: Very easy to apply spin from what i have seen so far. I can really sling my fh and have confidence that it will drop in.

Comfort -- I had no arm or shoulder issue. Which is a huge plus in my book

Durability -- I played 3 sets and about 4 games of 21 along with hitting around for about 5 hours. It seems to be holding up fine. I am not a string breaker.

Playability Duration (share thoughts on if/how the playability changed over time) I not really noticed anything on this. Ill report as i get more time in

Control (predictable trajectory? Easy to control depth? performance on different strokes and swing speeds?)
I had to hit with more spin on my fh. At the tension i strung it at i felt i had to pay attention to my strokes or it would fly on me. Strangely i didn't really notice this on my serve. In fact i seem to favor my flat serve with this string over my normal attempt at a kick serve.

Compare the performance characteristics to the string you use most often.

My normal setup works better for me in the control department. I had way more confidence to go after my flat fh vs with the test string i had to add a lot of spin to keep it in. It also favored my slice bh over my flat bh i attempt to use :)

Tension recommendations (after hitting it, would you recommend a different tension? Why?)

Yea i really wished i had strung it tighter. I thought going 2 up from my normal range would be fine but i was wrong. I feel now that i should have gone up 6 pounds. I think i like the performance characteristics of #52 much better then i liked it at 48

List any additional thoughts (optional)

I am really curious about how this would work in my normal hybrid setup. The string showed a lot of promise. In comfort and power that is for sure. I might have to buy a few sets and see what i can come up with!!! Thanks for letting me in on the test tw !!

@TW Staff I received Diadem Solstice pro 15l instead of solstice power 16. Should I still write a review on it?

Yes, please do. We sent out a few sets of their other co-poly, Solstice Pro, so more players could perform the test. Please note the string's name/gauge in your review.

Thanks,
Jon

Include the following in your review:

Tension(s) used for playtest-65#Mains60#Crosses

Regular string set-up-Ashaway 16G Kevlar Mains 55# Genesis Black Magic Crosses 50#

Racquet brand and model used for test-Prince Tour 100T ESP

Power of test string-At my higher tension it felt less powerful than Volkl Cyclone 16 String at same tension using the same cross

Feel (Stiff? Mushy? Muted? Crisp?)-It felt crisp to me but not stiff, but since I use Kevlar during the summer that may be a tough comparison.

Spin-I was getting great spin with the string during 3 sets of doubles and lots of action on the bounce.

Comfort-It was a very comfortable string for me, but I have a Kevlar arm.

Durability-After 3 sets of doubles, it is over half deep in notches so its ready to break.

Playability Duration (share thoughts on if/how the playability changed over time)-For me it played the same all three sets. I was also getting some great feel on drops at the net. I still feel the rough edges even though its ready to break.

Control (predictable trajectory? Easy to control depth? performance on different strokes and swing speeds?)-I was surprised at the control I was getting. I started out worried about the power compared to my Kevlar in the summer heat, but those fears went away after the first game. I actually only missed around 3 shots a little long from the back court during the three sets which my opponents commented on. I was able to hit some 3 quarter pace flat shots as well with good control and pace. A few of my topspin shots did grab more than I expected which took the trajectory higher than I intended but they ended up being accidental winners.

Compare the performance characteristics to the string you use most often.-Compared to my Kevlar setup it had easier power but still great control. I definitely had better feel for drop shots. On most strokes the trajectory was a little higher but I could still flatten it out for winners and a change of pace to my opponents. I didn't hit as many aces on the serve with it, but my kicker had more jump on it.

Tension recommendations (after hitting it, would you recommend a different tension? Why?)I liked it at the tension I used because I had great controlled power.

List any additional thoughts (optional)
-I liked the string, it would depend on the price as to my usage with my current Racket as it eats them up fairly quickly even in doubles. Thanks TW for giving me the opportunity to test this good string.

Legend
So here is my initial updated review of Diadem Solstic Power Playtest., I plan on coming back and updating this as my review continues.

As promised coming back after my second full session of playing with this string and as expected my opinions on some things have changed. Last nights session was local league of 14 singles games followed by 14 doubles games.
Each section will have updated review text but to sum it up here: This poly, like many, did give me arm pain (as expected). The string did not seem to loose much tension and offered good spin. Power was a little lower than expected and any swing that did not have a full swing and follow through resulted in a short ball that was punished accordingly.
I wont be switching to this string and will be cutting it out of my racquet ASAP and going back to a hybrid setup that is more arm friendly. Due to the shape of the string and its stiffness I think it would not be good to use as a hybrid with any multi-filament or gut type string. I think it would cut through very quickly causing premature breakage.

I strung this up last night using my trusty Klippermate. When I took the string out of the package I was shocked at how it felt. Very wirey and stiff. My best analogy would be that the string felt remarkably similar to trimmer/edger line. I actually considered that this stuff could be used in my trimmer.
So I immediately thought to myself "this will not be a good playtest".
Stringing went well enough considering how much coil memory this string had (a lot) but I was pleased with how little (if any) stretching the string required.

On to the review:

Tension(s) used for playtest: 55lbs

Regular string set-up: Mains: Random synthetic gut @60lbs Crosses: ISOSpeed Baseline Control @55lbs

Racquet brand and model used for test:
Wilson Pro Staff 97 w/ 1 overgrip and weight in handle to make racquet a static strung weight of 12.0oz

Power of test string:
7/10 This string was decently powered without being overpowered. I'd say that this falls right in the sweetspot of where I want power to be in a string. No fear of hitting long when swinging out. Balls would land quite short though if you did not follow through on your swing. Power did not noticeably change on my second hitting session.

Feel (Stiff? Mushy? Muted? Crisp?):
I'm going to say plush. This string felt absolutely wonderful when you hit the sweetspot. I was completely suprised once I started hitting the ball. Usually wirey poly types strings feel very stiff and harsh but not this one. After second hitting session I still feel the string feels plush when hitting on center but any off center hits are jarring.

Spin:
9/10 This string gives some pretty wicked spin and makes the ball do some very nasty kicks after the bounce. Forehands (when I followed through properly with enough swing speed) would kick up and away from my opponent. Very impressed with the spin so far. Spin production did not change on my second hitting session.

Comfort:
7.5/10 I was fairly impressed with how comfortable this string was. No severe jarring or vibrations were felt. This is no gut but compared to the typical poly I say this string is at the very top of comfort. 5/10 While my initial review was very high in praise of comfort with this string my second hitting session with it was painful. I came away with my arm hurting in the upper forearm and elbow. It would seem this string needs to be changed very frequently to stay comfortable and would only last 2-3 hours tops before it starts to give arm pain.

Durability: So far played 3 sets with no signs of major wear. After second session no signs of noticeable wear on strings.

Playability Duration (share thoughts on if/how the playability changed over time):
As stated above so far only 3 sets in. I can say that I felt no noticeable change in how the strings played over the 3 sets. No major tension loss has been noticed yet. Second session did not show any signs of major tension loss but the string did not feel as comfortable and ended up producing arm and elbow pain. I feel like this string is only good for 2-3 hours before needing to be cut out and restrung.

Control (predictable trajectory? Easy to control depth? performance on different strokes and swing speeds?):
9/10 String is very predictable and controllable. Took me only a few games to realize a strong follow through and good swing speed means balls will have tons of spin and fall inside the lines. Stop your follow through or swing weak and the ball is going short, very short.
Serve - not the most powerful string for flat serves but offers a great middle ground between speed and spin.
Forehand - absolutely deadly with ability to kick ball viciously off court.
Backhand (1HBH) - serviceable but the extra spin from the string had me putting more balls into the net until I adjusted.
Volleys - surprisingly excellent for a poly type string. String bites the ball so well that it made the volley control very good.
Control did not change on second session.

Compare the performance characteristics to the string you use most often: Compared to my regular setup I'd say this string offers more spin and more control. Power is down on my serve. This string so far offers me a more predictable response than my regular setup and as the night went on I found my confidence in swinging harder going up.

Tension recommendations (after hitting it, would you recommend a different tension? Why?):
Right now I am happy with the 55lbs I chose. Since string seemed very uncomfortable on second session if I was to try string again I might go down in tension to 48lbs initially in hopes of more sustained comfort.

List any additional thoughts (optional):

When pulling this string out of the package and stringing it I had very low expectations of how it would hit.
Boy was I surprised.
This string on my first session hit awesome. Lots of spin, control, and predictability.
Right now my current hybrid setup is lasting less than 6 full sets and it is very annoying to be stringing 2 racquets a week.
If this strings excellent initial characteristics hold up the next couple of sessions then I may be switching to it full time.
Right now the big factor for me will be how my elbow reacts to hitting this string over the course of a week. If I dont get any pain then we have a winner. But history tells me to expect some elbow pain eventually.
As I was afraid arm pain came in second session and I dont think this string is for me.
If you experience no pain with poly and dont mind stringing it often then this string plays great, just dont expect to use it for more than a couple of hours.

Tension(s) used for playtest: 57ibs

Regular string set-up: Gosen OG Sheep Micro Mains (55 ibs) & Pro’s Pro Lethal 5 Crosses (53 ibs)

Racquet brand and model used for test: Wilson Six One Tour BLX

Power of test string: The power level was low after it came from the machine. Then a hour later the power level started to crank up and it was hard to control that massive power gain after it broke in.

Feel: The feel was satisfying once I took it to the courts to hit with it. The package did say it’s a soft string. So, it didn’t bother my arm or have any issues with vibration.

Spin: The spin potential was a strong point of this string because of its unique star shaped. The level of grab is more than what I normally use. It could rival Solinco Tour Bite in terms of the amount of bite that they both produce when making those big cuts.

Comfort: Similar to the Feel category, it is a soft feeling string that shouldn’t post an issue for those who have arm issues or those who doesn’t want to experience shock at all.

Durability: They are pretty durable despite of it’s unique shape. There isn’t a notch after 3 hours of playing with them.

Playability Duration (share thoughts on if/how the playability changed over time): This is the major flaw of this string. After hours in the play, it completely went dead and the response became very foreign to me. I had to change the way I hit just to keep the ball in the court.

Control (predictable trajectory? Easy to control depth? performance on different strokes and swing speeds?): Control was great after it came out of the stringing machine. As mention in the playability section, that control quickly diminishes and its really hard to control this string. All my shots were landing very long than it was before. Its to the point that my hitting partner said this string isn’t for me.

Compare the performance characteristics to the string you use most often.: Its very similar to Volkl Cyclone tour with its similar shape and response. The amount of grab is comparable to Solinco Tour Bite.

Tension recommendations (after hitting it, would you recommend a different tension? Why?): I wont change the tension because it played well for me after it came from the machine. If I want to counter act the massive tension lost, I would have to string it a lot higher just to make it up.
List any additional thoughts (optional): Although I wont likely to buy this string because of that massive tension lost, but it was a fun string to take out and rip balls like no other string out there. If only you make a formula to keep it’s playability longer and make it slightly more control orientated, then you have my attention.

I received the Diadem Solstice Power 16 1.30 gauge

Tension(s) used for playtest
48 lbs.

Regular string set-up
Prince SG w Duraflex at 55 lbs. Before that, Luxillon 4G at 51 lbs

Racquet brand and model used for test
Prince O3 Hybrid Shark Oversize with 1.5 ounces of silicone added to the inside of the handle and 0.2 ounces of lead tape added the 9-12-3 o'clock position of the hoop. 4 points HL.

Power of test string
7/10. Not very powerful for a string that is advertised as "power". But not too bad either. No aces to report but plenty of winners.

Feel (Stiff? Mushy? Muted? Crisp?)
6/10 Stiff. It makes a high pitched sound every time I hit it.

Spin
10/10. Too much spin, if there is such a thing. But it started to lose it spinniness as the strings started to wear down.

Comfort
5/10 My arm felt tingly after a few sets. Nothing to be concerned about but should be notable.

Durability
5/10 After 8 sets, the star points have been worn down to the string shaft. Also, there are some notching evident. I should probably just cut them out.

Playability Duration (share thoughts on if/how the playability changed over time)
4/10 Plays great with good spin for the first 3-4 sets. But after the strings are worn down, it plays like a cheap poly. Stiff with no control, spin, or power.

Control (predictable trajectory? Easy to control depth? performance on different strokes and swing speeds?)
4/10 I find it hard to control. I am normally consistent and good at placing the ball where I want it. These strings make it too hard to play my normal game. Depth control, in particular was hard to execute. These strings are good for full strokes right through the ball, but they suck at touch shots and placement shots.

Compare the performance characteristics to the string you use most often.
More spin but less control than PSGD. Also, these Diadem strings wear down too fast.

Tension recommendations (after hitting it, would you recommend a different tension? Why?)
48 lbs seems about right for this string.

List any additional thoughts (optional)
I used a drop weight stringer and these strings were a bit difficult to deal with, particularly when pulling through the holes and weaving. It took me about 10 minutes longer to string my racket (normally, I can string it in 35 minutes).

Thanks for giving me the opportunity to test these strings,

Diadem Solstice Power 16 playtest

Tension(s) used for playtest: 50 lbs on Klippermate Drop Weight

Regular string set up: Pro’s Pro Ichiban Spin Gold 1.21 50 Lbs

Racquet brand and model used for test: Wilson 2013 Blade 16x19 customized ( leather grip w/ overgrip lead @ 3&9) to 11.8 oz

Power of test string: It took a while for this string to break in. At first hit ( day after stringing it ) I really didn’t like how it played. There was no pop. It didn’t feel soft like I heard it was. So I let it sit for another week and the string felt much better. I would say its medium powered. I was getting depth on some groundstrokes without much effort.

Feel: Good feel for a soft poly string. It kinda felt like the previous playtest I did (Gamma Moto Soft 16). It wasn’t as muted as that string. I was getting good feedback on touch shots.

Spin: The spin is awesome if you have good technique. The spin felt like it was coming off a 17g string bed instead of a 16g string bed. I really like the spin that was being produced. I could swing away ground strokes and when I thought the ball was going to go out it dipped inside the baseline. I really enjoyed it. For kick serves, I was able to get some good curveball action along with good technique of course.

Comfort: As stated before, when I first hit with it, the string was not comfortable. It was almost jarring. After letting it sit for a week, it became really comfortable.

Durability: I’m not a real big string breaker. I’m guessing this is durable string for a poly.

Playability Duration: Again, I didn’t’ like the string after first hit (2hours) Let it sit for a week and it’s better. I have been playing with it for another couple hours and the playability and tension appears to be maintained.

Control: Control was great with this racket. There was also good ball pocketing without the ball wouldn’t fly off the strings. I could direct the ball where I wanted to go with the depth I required.

Compare to the string you use most often: So comparing this to Pro’s Pro Ichiban Spin Gold 1.21, if it weren’t for the price tag of this stringing I would consider playing with this string. The spin off this string was really great for a 16G. The shape of the string probably helps out with that. I played a set with Diadem ( I played well with it) and then hit with Ichiban after. I can see that the ball was pocketing as much Diadem and it wasn’t grabbing the ball as much.

Tension recommendations: I think you could go into the low 40’s with this string and not lose any control. But I think stringing at 50 lbs was probably best to accommodate some tension loss.

List any additional thoughts: I had to be real careful not damaging the string during the string process. Since it’s star-shaped, there’s more edges. I had to be careful during weaving because a couple times I cut in the string a little bit.

Thanks TW and Diadem for the playtest!

Tension(s) used for playtest: 50 lbs, I like to string on the lower end of 50s or high 40s with polys.

Regular string set-up : Current set up is the Prince Beast 16g

Racquet brand and model used for test: Currently hitting with Wilson Steam 99 (Non-Spin version)

Power of test string: Fresh off the string job, I felt this string would play between the MSV Hex and Solinco Barb Wire. The first hour of hitting with these strings, was a mixed response. I either had shots that were short or flew past the lines. As somebody who hits flat shots, I felt textured strings would help bring the balls into the court, but I am beginning to think that these textured strings are not suited for flat hitters. As far as the power level goes, it has a slightly more powered than signum pro plasma and msv hex.

Feel (Stiff? Mushy? Muted? Crisp?)- Strings felt a bit stiff at first, and then after a couple hours of hitting it started to loosen up on the stiffness. I think for me to play better with these strings the edges have to be a bit worn down.

Spin - I did not notice a big difference in spin production with these strings even when I tried to hit with spin. I think this string would play better after a couple hours of hitting.

Comfort - There was a slight discomfort at first, but after warming up I did not notice any jarring effects of hitting with these specific strings.

Durability - Did not notice any notching even after 5 hours of hitting. Usually if I hit with the prince beast for five hours, I would see some notching indication.

Playability Duration (share thoughts on if/how the playability changed over time) - Definitely would recommend hitting with this for a longer period to see more added benefit with these strings. I feel in general textured strings plays better for flat hitters once the strings have been broken in a bit more.

Control (predictable trajectory? Easy to control depth? performance on different strokes and swing speeds?) For the first hour, the control was subpar. I could not control trajectory or even maintain a decent depth. Sometimes I would overhit it because I was frustrated at the lack of depth. However after putting in 5+ hours, it seems to play a lot better.

Compare the performance characteristics to the string you use most often. I would compare it to the MSV Hex, although I prefer hitting with those strings over these. At least color is unique.

Tension recommendations (after hitting it, would you recommend a different tension? Why?) I would string this up anywhere 52-55, just because as a flat hitter I felt the control was lacking right off the bat.

List any additional thoughts (optional)- I think these strings would fit the profile of those who hits with lots of top spin. Textured string seems more of a failed experiment for me. Most textured strings need at least 5 hours of hitting before it feels comfortable for a flat hitter like me to with. Maybe this string is a fine wine that just needs to age a bit more. On a side note, this coral color is pretty cool.

Rookie
Diadem Solstice Power 16

Tension(s) used for playtest - 45 lbs, drop weight

Regular string set-up - Luxilon 4G Rough 16L at 45 lbs

Racquet brand and model used for test - Wilson Pro Staff RF97

Power of test string - I found the power of this string to be slightly below average compared to the polys I've tried so far. After the break-in, the power was still controllable, and it played consistently throughout the first three sets.

Feel (Stiff? Mushy? Muted? Crisp?) - The string was soft and it felt crisp. The feel and the sound of the ball impact when hitting with heavy topspin ground-strokes was very satisfying.

Spin - This string generated tons of spin and bit the ball hard. It was definitely one of the best spin polys I've had so far. I would recommend this string to players looking for massive spin for about 5 sets.

Comfort - The string felt comfortable when the ball hit the sweetspot. Off-center shots gave a bit discomfort feeling on the arm

Durability - I've noticed the string notching and shapes wearing off after the 4th single set. I've been playing for about 13 hours now and it doesn't seem like it look break for the next couple of days.

Playability Duration (share thoughts on if/how the playability changed over time) - After about 30 - 40mins of warm up and rally, it felt like the tension dropped about 5 lbs. Then, it played consistently until I noticed the string notching, which decreased spin potential.

Control (predictable trajectory? Easy to control depth? performance on different strokes and swing speeds?) - I have fast and full ground-strokes, and the string provided amazing control especially on both my topspin and buggy-whip. I felt confident hitting at the baseline with heavy spin to the corners. Backhand slice went low and deep to the baseline. Kick serves played wonderfully. Volleys and flat serves were powerful and controllable. However, after about 10 hours of play, control drops dead.

Compare the performance characteristics to the string you use most often. - I most often use Luxilon 4G Rough, and they both have impressive control and feel. I would say that Diadem Solstice Power plays similarly to Kirschbaum Spiky Shark.

Tension recommendations (after hitting it, would you recommend a different tension? Why?) - No, I would stay with tension 45 lb, because the power level seems similar to my usual setup.

Tension(s) used for playtest: 45 pounds
Regular string set-up: Tourna Big Hitter Black 17 @ 40 lbs

Racquet brand and model used for test: Head Youtek Speed MP 16 x 19

Power of test string: I thought the power level was spot on. It is a nice soft string and the bounce off the racquet at the 45 pound tension fit my swing very well.

Feel: Great touch on volleys and slice or drop shots. I really liked the feel of this string. I suppose the softness of the string is a big contributor here.

Spin: I'm accustomed to a heavy spin set up with BHB7, and this is the first test string I've tried that rivals it. And does so at a 16 gauge! I am very impressed with the kick on my serve, and the drop of my forehands. Again, the slices and drop shots dropped with precision.

Comfort: Comfort usually translates as arm comfort. I didn't feel any discomfort with this string. I'd recommend this to my clients that are interested in a Co-poly spin set up, but have experienced some soreness in the elbow or wrist.

Durability: I've played with the string for about 6 hours and am noticing notching, but haven't broke the string yet.

Playability Duration: As I mentioned, I've played with the string for about 6 hours. The last hour was during a practice, and I felt my confidence in the string waning. I had a singles match last night, and after warming up with this racquet, I decided to switch to my racquet with my standard set up for play because the playability had changed too much. I was hitting too many shots long, and the control I'd gained in spin was lost.

Control (predictable trajectory? Easy to control depth? performance on different strokes and swing speeds?): Control often translates as spin control. In that category, this string excels. I could hit precision points with topspin forehands. The depth control was just right initially. I felt as comfortable with this set up as my BHB7 initially and loved the bite offered from a 16 gauge string.

Compare the performance characteristics to the string you use most often.: The 'bite' and spin potential were on par with my standard set up. I liked the power and control offered and if the playability lasted longer, and the price were right would consider replacing my current set up with this string (of which I was formerly unaware).

Tension recommendations (after hitting it, would you recommend a different tension? Why?): Tension was dead on for me. 45 pounds allows for the co-polyester to maintain its flexibility and it can be felt in the ball-pocketing. I know people are apprehensive about playing such low tensions, but I think it fits the feel of a co-polyester string perfectly.

This is my favorite string that I've tested. It suffers from a lack of longevity, but for those that are looking for a spin friendly, durable, co-poly this is a winner.

Thanks to TW and Diadem for this opportunity.

Diadem Solstice Power 16L

Tension(s) used for playtest - 48 lbs, Lockedout

Regular string set-up – guts/poly at 52/49

Racquet brand and model used for test – Prince Ozone Tour 16*18, modified to 12.4oz. Strong 4.0, all court player. (Let me just say that I am not very fond of its color with my racket.)

Power of test string – When I held the string in my hand, I thought it was rather stiff. I was a bit concerned as I got somewhat sensitive wrist. To my surprise, it was not as stiff as I expected. The power is there, if I hit through the ball and had decent followup, I struggled a little bit with passing shots in the beginning as I am used to easy power with guts. The sound of it during impact is great.

Feel (Stiff? Mushy? Muted? Crisp?) – The softness of this string is above average poly. No wrist pain after playing, and it is somewhat muted (not sure how to descript it: there is pocketing effect, but it also absorbs some of the incoming energy. )

Spin – It is really spin friendly. For the first 3 hours, I was literally trimming the tennis balls… The kick serve was really jumping up, and baseline ground stroke just dived down …Then, the effect gradually diminished after 4 hours

Comfort – It is surely a comfortable poly string when fresh. After 8 hours, I noticed the notching. I guess the string bed became stiffer as the strings kind of locked within due to notching. My arm began to feel minor soreness, nothing serious but worth of noticing.

Durability – I don’t think I will break the string after 10 hours, but I may have to just cut it out as the string began to lose control and become stiffer at this point.

Playability Duration (share thoughts on if/how the playability changed over time) – It was really good for first 4 hours while the shape was not worn out. Then, as it began to notch, it loses some of its merits. Overall, 10 hours for poly is decent enough to me.

Control (predictable trajectory? Easy to control depth? performance on different strokes and swing speeds?) – It was easy to control the depth as the spin helped, diving at very last second. Nevertheless, it wasn’t very powerful string to begin with. The kick serve was great and backhand slice was really floating… after the first a few hours, the balls landed longer and longer, and I began to adjust my stroke in order to get the same control.

Compare the performance characteristics to the string you use most often. – It actually reminds me of Signum Pro Plasma HEXtreme. SPPH is a bit stiffer, but still comfortable to hit with, tons of spin. There is no way I could get this type of spin with my gut/poly setup, but my game never relies on spin either. If I had an opportunity to try again, I might hybrid it with another smooth soft poly. (I had a positive experience hybrid SPPH/SPPP, tons of spin, but not as comfortable as I would like.)

Tension recommendations (after hitting it, would you recommend a different tension? Why?) – I think I might increase 2 – 3 lbs to improve its playability duration. There is a tradeoff here, as I really hesitate to play full bed of poly with tension above 50. My wrist would not like it for long.

Overall, it is a great spin-friendly string with decent comfort. Thank to TW for such a wonderful playtest again.

Diadem Solstice Power 16L Playtest

Tension(s) used for playtest - 53/50 on a Gamma drop weight stringer

Regular string set-up – TB16 mains and Gosen OGSM crosses

Racquet brand and model used for test – Volk C10 Pro (2012 pj)

Power of test string – Good power for a poly—much more than that of TB— but it was tamed by the spin.

Feel (Stiff? Mushy? Muted? Crisp?) – Feel was definitely soft for a (shaped) poly and maybe a bit too soft feeling in my c10 pro. However, I didn't mind it since it didn't affect play. I wouldn't call the feeling mushy or very muted, but it's definitely soft.

Spin – Really, really fun string due to the insane amounts of spin. There was a drop off after the first few hours of play, but it was still above average after the string smoothed out.

Comfort – I don't have arm issues, and with the softness of the string as it is, I don't believe it will cause issues for most poly users.

Durability – Just popped the strings today on a return of serve. They lasted around 10-12 hours of heavy hitting and playing matches/tiebreaks but I also used these to feed and coach. Middle to slightly below average durability as I usually have to cut out poly.

Playability Duration (share thoughts on if/how the playability changed over time) – I really liked how it played until it broke. I feel this aspect, along with spin, are the highlights of this string. The star shape held for longer and I think it offered both great bite and good snap-back. Of course, there was a drop in spin after the first few hours but that's expected and the string still performed great after that time.

Control (predictable trajectory? Easy to control depth? performance on different strokes and swing speeds?) – Easy to control depth and really go for angles with this string. Good on both first and second serves with power and spin helping them respectively. You need to swing fast with this string, like most polys, to get the most out of its strongest attributes.

Compare the performance characteristics to the string you use most often. – Playability-wise it reminded me of Black code 4s (recently play tested string). Great spin, good power. But feel-wise solstice power was much softer and slightly more muted and less "pingy". I think there was slightly more spin with solstice than my usual TB hybrid, at least at first, and power was slightly higher, with similar comfort, albeit with a slightly softer feel.

Tension recommendations (after hitting it, would you recommend a different tension? Why?) – I liked the tension I strung it up at. Tamable power and the feel was what I think fit the description of test results I found online.

Thanks to TW as always and Diadem for this great playtest. Really enjoyed the playability and color of this string!

DIADEM Solstice Power 16 1.30mm

Tension(s) used for playtest: 54lbs
Regular string set-up: Yonex PolyTour Spin 16L 1.25mm
Racquet brand and model used for test: Yonex AI 98
Power of test string: decent power, I felt alittle more power from this string than from the Yonex PolyTour Spin
Feel (Stiff? Mushy? Muted? Crisp?): at 54lbs on the Yonex AI98 it didn't feel stiff at all. I had pretty good feel from the string
Spin: hard to say its spin potential as I generally hit pretty flat but I definitely felt good pocketing and balls were staying in the court on my ground strokes and felt I had great control with this string
Comfort: no arm issues even at the 54lbs, felt pretty comfortable
Durability: only played about 6hrs of actual court time but here I saw one of its best feature in my opinion, the tension maintenance was much better than the PolyTour Spin
Playability Duration (share thoughts on if/how the playability changed over time): playability was very consistent so far as noted above b/c the tension maintenance was very good
Control (predictable trajectory? Easy to control depth? performance on different strokes and swing speeds?): very good control as I felt I can take big cuts on my swing and didn't worry so much as the ball was flying out
Compare the performance characteristics to the string you use most often: I definitively think this strings was a tad better on the power side as compared to the Yonex PolyTour Spin but where I saw the biggest difference is tension maintenance and thus so far decent playablilty and consistence
Tension recommendations (after hitting it, would you recommend a different tension? Why?): 54lbs was perfect for me for this playtest I prob would only go maybe 1-2 lbs higher just to see if I could get more control without arm issues
List any additional thoughts (optional): really loved this playtest as it played very comparable to Yonex PolyTour Spin. It even was about the same color and feel of the texture of the strings but I definitely felt the sharp edges of the Solstice. I did pay more attention when stringing b/c I thought with the 5 sided it might tend to twist as compared to Tourna Big Hitter 7. So lastly would be the price which is kinda of comparable to the Yonex but I see its not offered as a reel yet. Thank you again TW and Diadem for this great playtest! Definitely one of my more enjoyable playtest that I have been lucky to test on TW.

Tension(s) used for playtest: 54lbs
Regular string set-up: luxilon alu power 16l at 54 lbs
Racquet brand and model used for test: Babolat Aeropro Drive
Power of test string: Good power. The string wasn't over powered but also not underpowered. Power was there when needed.
Feel (Stiff? Mushy? Muted? Crisp?): felt stiff off the machine but played very soft for a poly. No arm problems
Spin: Spin was beyond excellent. A lot of spin potential.
Comfort: no arm issues
Durability: lasted a very long time. (playing 5 hours a day five days a week) It's still in my aeropro.
Playability Duration (share thoughts on if/how the playability changed over time): playability was very consistent. Felt softer over time.
Control (predictable trajectory? Easy to control depth? performance on different strokes and swing speeds?): very good control. Spin really helped. Very easy to place
Compare the performance characteristics to the string you use most often: this string had more spin than my alu set up. The power levels were comparable. Durability wise the alu wins.
Tension recommendations (after hitting it, would you recommend a different tension? Why?): 54lbs was perfect
List any additional thoughts (optional): This was my favorite playtest from TW. I might have to buy a few sets.

Diadem Solstice Power 16 gauge (1.38 mm) - Full Bed

TENSION USED FOR PLAYTEST - 50 lbs in both the mains and crosses strung on a lockout machine.

REGULAR STRING SETUP - The regular setup of Dunlop Black Widow 17 gauge, 50 lbs x 50 lbs also strung on a lockout machine.

RACQUET BRAND AND MODEL USED FOR TEST - Dunlop Aerogel 4D 200 Tour 95.

POWER OF TEST STRING - The power level of this would fall into the above average range for a poly. For a poly player, there is plenty of power available. Of course, the power is very useable. There is enough pop to employ an aggressive, power style of play, but not so much that the ball flies off the string bed. They provide plenty of useable power and the "power" in the name is accurate.

FEEL OF TEST STRING - Diadem Solstice Power has outstanding feel and touch. It has a comfortable, useable amount of touch on every type of shot and has some very nice ball pocketing. The string has a soft feel but was not at all dull or muted. Definitely on the soft side for a polyester.

SPIN - Outstanding. The polyester composition in addition to the ball bite that the star shaped surface, provides for a great amount of ball spin. The spin combined with the useable power and nice feel, makes it a very nice string to play with and gives a player plenty of shotmaking options. There is plenty of useable spin on both topspin and slice groundstrokes. There was a also a good amount of jumping action on kick serves.

COMFORT - It felt and played like the name says, very soft. Not at all spongy soft, but still quite comfortable. There was normally very little, no excessive shock, and not an uncomfortable level of shock or vibration coming from of the string bed.

DURABILITY - This particular test was for about six sets of singles over approximately eight hours of time over an eight day period. The strings did not break during that time. The shape was clearly beginning to round toward the end of the test.

PLAYABILITY DURATION (HOW PLAYABILITY CHANGED OVER TIME) - Solstice Power 16 started nice, then the power and feel seemed to settle over in initially. There was the normal polyester drop in tension during the first hour or so, then the drop slowed and continued to be quite playable for the duration of the test. Playability was especially good for a shaped poly.

CONTROL (PREDICTABLE TRAJECTORY) - Solstice Power offers outstanding control. For a spin hitter like me, the combination of all of the string attributes come together to produce a very high level of control without any sacrifice in power when compared to other poly strings. This set of strings had the usual great control that comes with poly and co-poly strings. The spin that these strings produce allow a player to have great control and shot choices hitting to and from all positions on the court.

COMPARE PERFORMANCE CHARACTERISTICS OF TEST STRING TO DUNLOP BLACK WIDOW - This Power Solstice string is extremely similar in most areas of performance. For any given comparison, one string may perform better than the other at one tension, they may then grade just the opposite at a different tension. In general, Black Widow plays with a bit more spin and power. Power Solstice seemed to have a little more feel. That may have been due to the thicker gauge. They both have very similar levels of comfort, control, and overall playability.

TENSION RECOMMENDATION - The 50 lb. test tension seemed to be on the low side for a tension starting point for the test even in this low powered racquet. I may try or recommend increasing tension up to five pound to temper the power and get more control.

LIST ANY ADDITIONAL THOUGHTS - If this string is the first offering from Diadem, well done. What a nice string. I think that most every type of player will be able to make this string work for them. It lacks nothing. Polyester and co-polyester string technology is continuing its evolution. This string is following the trend of more balanced, well-rounded playability characteristics. Strings are being produced that incorporate more of each spin, power, comfort, control, and feel, into the same string. They are incorporating all of the positive playability attributes of each polyester, nylon, and natural gut into the same string. Good job Diadem.

I am not an official participant in this playtest, but I did happen to try this string after reading a couple of compelling reviews elsewhere so I thought I'd chime in.

Tension(s) used for playtest: 53lbs on a drop weight.

Regular string set-up: Just switched to Pro Staff 97 so no regular set-up for this frame. The demo had 4G @ 53lbs so that was my reference point.

Racquet brand and model used for test: Wilson Pro Staff 97

Power of test string: I guess I'd say average for a poly. I was comfortable taking big swings, so the power is there if needed without fear of flyers.

Feel (Stiff? Mushy? Muted? Crisp?): Crisp and soft (for a poly) especially when fresh, it loses a little of the crispness after a few hours of hitting.

Spin: this string has all kinds of available spin. What's nice is that it doesn't feel like it's a gimmicky string (like super open pattern racquets), you can still play flat shots, but when you do hit a stroke imparting spin, there is more there than with any sting I've used.

Comfort: Above average for a poly.

Durability: Seems to be holding up well. After three singles matches and two doubles matches over 10 days since stringing tension has dropped 20% but it basically settled into 42lbs (Racquet Tune) after the first couple of sessions and hasn't dropped much from there even after a long singles match. Very minimal notching, I'd expect another two, three, or four matches out of these strings if I want to go that long. The shape is still present but rounding a bit in the sweet spot part of the bed.

Playability Duration (share thoughts on if/how the playability changed over time): I liked the string from the start, Though it may have settled into a maximum playability zone after the first hour of hitting. It still feels great so I'm very happy with the playability duration.

Control (predictable trajectory? Easy to control depth? performance on different strokes and swing speeds?) I find this a very controllable string. Easy to hit spots on serves, topspin FH and 1HBH drives stay in the court, defensive shots don't trampoline, the backhand slice is especially effective (some of all this may be due to the Pro Staff 97, which as I said is new to me as well and all these playability characteristics are how I would describe the frame too.)

Compare the performance characteristics to the string you use most often: I find this string similar to Tour Bite which I've used quite a bit on different frames over the years. But I think Solstice has a little less "random" power and more spin/control.

Tension recommendations (after hitting it, would you recommend a different tension? Why?) Normally I've been a proponent of polys in the mid 40's, but since the PS97 demo had poly at 53 and I loved the setup, I chose that as my starting point for this string. I have to say it feels about right. I guess it settles into the mid 40' anyway.

List any additional thoughts (optional): IMO this is a great string, I will definitely continue using it on at least one frame. The blue color would be cool on the right frames, but not so much on the PS97. I wish they would offer in a neutral color as well (grey/tan/black). I'm not really looking to make a fashion statement with my string, I think manufacturers would be wise to allow consumers to opt-out of the bold colors if we wish to, it should be a no-brainer to offer a non-colorized version of their strings IMO (are you reading this Diadem?). It's almost enough to make me just use tourbite or 4G instead. I'll also add that I think it's overpriced compared to it's peers. No pricing should be compared to Lux because that brand is absurdly overpriced, but strings like Prince XC, Solinco strings, Volkl, Tourna, etc... $10 range is where this belongs.

Include the following in your review:

Tension(s) used for playtest: 54 lbs on CP
Regular string set-up: Kirschbaum Spiky Shark/Black Shark
Racquet brand and model used for test: Head Extreme Pro
Power of test string: The string if fairly powerful for a poly after it settled in. More so than Black Shark/Spiky Shark.

Feel (Stiff? Mushy? Muted? Crisp?): Nice crisp string bed that did not feel boardy or stiff. Even when stringing Solstice felt softer and more pliable than most poly's.

Spin: The spin was very solid. I would say that it competes with Tour Bite in the spin department which says a lot about its spin potential.

Comfort: Comfort was good for a full bed of poly. I did not get stiff/bad vibrations on off-center shots making the sweet spot feel large.

Durability: Unfortunately, I wasn't able to play with it long enough (yet) to truly test durability. However, after 4 hours of play the string was not significantly notched.

Playability Duration (share thoughts on if/how the playability changed over time): Strings played that same throughout the playtest. I did not notice a significant amount of tension loss. The strings softened up a bit after an hour so of play, but i find that to be typical with every poly. Actually, I enjoyed the string more once it softened a little bit.

Control (predictable trajectory? Easy to control depth? performance on different strokes and swing speeds?): Control was great due to the spin the string offered. I also gained nice control on kick serves due to the spin. Depth was easy enough as the string had a nice amount of power and touch was surprisingly decent.

Compare the performance characteristics to the string you use most often: Feels like a softer and spinnier version of Spiky Shark 16. With that said, the strings are similar and I would consider buying a reel of this string if they made it in 16L and in a different color. This string is meant to be played in a full bed IMO and 1.25 is durable enough in my stick.

Tension recommendations (after hitting it, would you recommend a different tension? Why?) I would probably lower the tension a bit as the spin the string creates can harness the power. I'd say 50-52 would be where I would string it next time in the 16G version. Like a mentioned, the tension drops after you play for a short period but I think it could play even better a little looser.

List any additional thoughts (optional):
I would recommend this string. Often times players measure the playability based on price, or bang for their buck. $14 for a set of diadem strings from an online seems reasonable to someone who pays attention to strings like me. However, with their high set and reel price points it may be difficult to steal market share from the big guns like Babolat, Wilson, Luxilon. I really don't have a downside to the string at this time. However, it would be nice to see some additional colors for this string,

Tension(s) used for playtest: 54 Mains, 52 Crosses

Regular string set-up: Volkl Cyclone 16 at 52/50

Racquet brand and model used for test: Yonex EZone Ai 98

Power of test string: It's on the higher end of the power spectrum for poly strings. I really felt like the ball was exploding off of the stringbed at times. I was able to get some free points off of my serve with the extra power, but it took some of my confidence away when going for the kill shot on groundies. I would increase tension over my normal setup of 52/50 to 56/54 or 57/55 to help reel in the power.

Feel (Stiff? Mushy? Muted? Crisp?): Very soft, particularly in the sweetspot, with a very slight crispness. Not dampened or muted feeling at all. I had a really hard time with touch shots due to that extremely soft feel. I found my drop shots and volleys to be difficult to execute with precision because of the feel of this string. It almost made me feel like I was playing with my old Pure Drive again with the unpredictability on touch shots. Perhaps this has to do with the extreme shape of the string?

Spin
Probably the most spin friendly string I've ever hit with. The star-shaped profile creates tremendous bite and really spits the ball off with a ton of spin. My opponent actually complained during warm ups about the kick my forehand was generating. This string created so much spin I actually had to change my swing to prevent it from landing short. Once I got the swing path figured out I was able to hit better penetrating shots, especially on returns.

Comfort
This is a comfortable poly, to be sure. Even on off center shots, of which there were many, it never felt harsh or jarring. It almost mimics the feel of a poly strung at very low tension.

Durability: Some notching was evident after 10 or so hours. Also, the star shaped profile really starts to wear down over time.

Playability Duration (share thoughts on if/how the playability changed over time): Started out lively, and only got more so.

Control (predictable trajectory? Easy to control depth? performance on different strokes and swing speeds?): Good control as long as you impart a lot of spin. I had trouble with flatter shots as well as with my touch volleys.

Compare the performance characteristics to the string you use most often.: More power and spin than Cyclone, but the additional power wasn't something I liked.

Tension recommendations (after hitting it, would you recommend a different tension? Why?)
Stretched a lot more on the stringing machine than my usual setup of Cyclone 16g. I would definitely go up at least 4 pounds, possibly 6 from where I normally string.

List any additional thoughts (optional): This was a fun playtest because of the unbelievable spin that Solstice Power 16 can produce. On the downside, it felt like I had a hard time really letting it rip because of the powerful response. Also, I think the extreme shape of the string causes me to lose feel on the ball on touch shots like droppers and stop volleys.

Tension(s) used for playtest: 50Mains / 48 crosses

Regular string set-up:
Solinco TourBite16 50/48

Racquet brand and model used for test:
Prince Extreme Tour100T SW340 W330 B6HL

Power of test string:
The string has more power than my usual setup, but the shaped-poly translates into much more TOP. Accelerating thru every shot produces great results. If I have a decal and leave the ball on the stringed too long… the power becomes obvious.

Feel (Stiff? Mushy? Muted? Crisp?):
The word “CRISP” is very accurate to describe the hit sensation. Average feel, but crisp.

Spin:
Tremendous spin, it almost feels like cheating :)

Comfort:
Average comfort. When stringing it, the string felt very stiff and I was expecting an uncomfortable stringbed, I was wrong. It is average and comfortable.

Durability:
The durability is above average. No premature breakage or dead bed.
Playability Duration (share thoughts on if/how the playability changed over time): When these strings are fresh it feels like you can hit any shot on the court. After about 6 hours of play it start coming back to reality. Even after the tension drop and considerable wear, it is quite playable.

Control (predictable trajectory? Easy to control depth? performance on different strokes and swing speeds?):
It has a higher launch angle than my goto string, but the spin does not make this an issue for groundies. Directional control was great. Depth was average, it lacks touch relative to more precision-based control strings.

Compare the performance characteristics to the string you use most often.
This is like a more lively TB with greater spin potential. I feel more confident with my TB when taking big cuts at the ball.

Tension recommendations (after hitting it, would you recommend a different tension? Why?)
I think that 50/48 is a good place to start. I would bump it up if I wanted to reel in the control or drop it down if I wanted to power it up.

List any additional thoughts (optional)
I want to thank TW and Diadem for the opportunity to test this Modern Poly. I think that this is progressive new string company that is producing high-performance strings for competitive players. Keep it up!

Diadem Solstice Power 16

Tension(s) used for playtest: 48 lbs
Regular string set-up: Nat gut main/poly cross (lux 4G/lux adrenaline/Solinco tourbite)
Racquet brand and model used for test: Wilson Steam 99LS
Power of test string: Semi-powerful as compared to most polys; felt fairly elastic which is what I had expected for this soft poly
Feel (Stiff? Mushy? Muted? Crisp?): Not stiff at all which is what I loved about Diadem.
Spin: At first, there was no significant increase in spin, but after a half hour break-in period, I felt the level of spin picked up at least 20%. Loved the cushy feel and easy access spin.
Comfort: Very comfortable for a poly. I had no tenderness in the elbow after a couple of hitting sessions and one match. I usually hybrid one racquet and have another identical with full poly when I want to hit out and still maintain control.
Durability: I'm not a string breaker so no issues here. Customary notching after two weeks of intermittent play.
Playability Duration (share thoughts on if/how the playability changed over time): Overall, playability has settled in quite nicely after an initial break in period (half an hour).
Control (predictable trajectory? Easy to control depth? performance on different strokes and swing speeds?): Very easy to control depth and spin on topspin grounds and low backhand slice is easily generated.
Compare the performance characteristics to the string you use most often.: Definitely more feedback than the Luxilon strings which is often lacking. I felt some similarities to Solinco Tour Bite but Diadem is clearly softer.
Tension recommendations (after hitting it, would you recommend a different tension? Why?): Will definitely try another set to see if ratcheting up from 48 to 55 is still a winner.
List any additional thoughts: Would like to see this in the $12 price range since it doesn't have the street credibility as a Luxilon. I think it is easier to "sell" this string to others if competitively priced.

Diadem Solstice Power 17g

Tension(s) used for playtest

#48 x1 piece constant pull w pre-stretch

Regular string set-up
Nothing regular but often compare textured/shaped poly to Cyclone and Cyclone Tour as some go to favorites

Racquet brand and model used for test
Boris Becker DC London with leather grip

Power of test string
Fairly high (similar to Cyclone Tour)

Feel (Stiff? Mushy? Muted? Crisp?)
A little bit of crispness but over all muted

Spin

Very good. One of the best I have hit with. Could have been I also had a good few games as well. Got similar ball action as Tier One T1 Firewire, Tourna BHB7, Gamma Moto. A similar skilled player I hit singles with said my ground strokes where a bit heavier and the ball had more action and jump

Comfort

Good comfort. Fits into the "soft" category for a poly. Towards the end of the play test the feedback felt a bit on the harsh side if it was an off centered hit during net play/volleys

Durability

This is what impressed me in regards to the shape and texture of the string. It did not round off during my play test. I do not play with poly till it breaks and replace it when I see the string reduce in snap back action. Notching was guessed to be about 1/3 of the way and the snap back was still very good.

Playability Duration (share thoughts on if/how the playability changed over time)
I let the string bed sit about 24 hrs before I hit with it. I was happy from the first hit and didn't seem to change playability for most of the play test.

Control (predictable trajectory? Easy to control depth? performance on different strokes and swing speeds?)
Very good with control and change of direction. Also very good on flat/put away shots as well as volleys and net game

Compare the performance characteristics to the string you use most often.
I think this had more bite/spin compared to the Cyclone/Cyclone Tour string beds I usually play with. Similar in comfort and power to Cyclone Tour

Tension recommendations (after hitting it, would you recommend a different tension? Why?)
I think this is a good tension. During colder months maybe go 2# lower.

I enjoyed this string so much I bought a few sets of this string. Tension drop was 3.7% after 24hrs, 7.1% after 1st singles match, and seemed to top off at 12.4% tension loss near the end of the play test.
Thank you Diadem and Tennis Warehouse for this play test. Sorry for the late review.

Diadem Solstice Power 17g

Tension(s) used for playtest: Installed at 55#, constant pull, fixed clamp machine
Regular string set-up: PSGD 16g
Racquet brand and model used for test: Wilson BLX ProStaff 95; leaded to 350g, 13pts HL
Power of test string: This string had above-average power for a poly and was especially noticeable in the below-average powered ProStaff racquet
Feel (Stiff? Mushy? Muted? Crisp?): I'd describe the feel as very-good and noticeably less harsh (less stiff) than most polys. Definitely not mushy! Very comfortable.
Spin: I think the spin category is where this string shines, and I could really feel the 17g string biting into the ball. Serving is one of the strengths of my game and it was even better than usual with this string.
Comfort: As I wrote in the spin category above, this string was very comfortable as a poly. I've had some elbow problems in the past which is why I've moved away from polys, but I may revisit poly use after this playtest.
Durability: I've only played six hours with this string and haven't noticed any notching. As with all polys, durability far exceeds playability duration.
Playability Duration (share thoughts on if/how the playability changed over time): I've seen no appreciable decreases over the six hours I've played with this string. As a rule, I don't play polys beyond 10 hours because of previous elbow issues.
Control (predictable trajectory? Easy to control depth? performance on different strokes and swing speeds?): Control is far more important during doubles matches than singles matches, and it came very naturally for me with this string. I was able to hit some very low returns of serve and keep the ball unusually low when my opponents had taken the net.
Compare the performance characteristics to the string you use most often: The Solstice is almost as comfortable as synthetic gut. Normal 17g syngut will last me no more than 10 hours and that's my limit with poly so I think Solstice compares favorably. I definitely appreciate that the strings snap back and don't require continuous straightening between points.
Tension recommendations (after hitting it, would you recommend a different tension? Why?) 55# was perfect for me and might need to be increased for big hitters with more powerful racquets.
List any additional thoughts: Solstice was one of the best polys I've used. After my experience, I'm seriously considering returning to poly as my regular set-up.

Thank you, TW, for the opportunity to participate in the playtest. I apologize for the ****iness of my review but, given that my wife and I just had our first child this month, I hope I can get a pass on this one!

I’ve been using this string for the past 8 hours of play time strung at 48# full bed in Wilson 100 ultra v2 with 4g@12. Really like it. Feels fairly plush for a poly with good pocketing feel and great spin. Hasn’t twinged my recovered GE yet and this is the first time I’m using full bed poly since I have recovered. Had it laying around and was ready to try poly again and glad I chose it. I will be cutting it out around the 10-12 hour mark and pick from my other poly’s laying around in my stash.

If you like Solstice Power, give Solstice Black a try. Pretty much the same feel and grip on the ball, but better tension maintenance and a more neutral color.

Just checked my string stash. I have flash and elite xt. I’ll keep solstice black in mind on a future order.
