hey everyone...so yeah, i had my first experience down at districts this past weekend...apparently it wasn't as hot as years past, which made it semi-bearable? there was still an ambulance sighting, after one guy had full body-cramps after his early sunday match...i also think animal control was called for a raccoon that was running wild on the court (no joke)..or maybe it was that honeybadger, because the honeybadger doesn't give an S...although i think he was busy eating cobra or something...
anyway, back to the tennis...so playing 5 matches in 3 days is actually just as hard as it sounds...if your captain ever asks you to play 2 singles matches in one day, just say no! haha, so there were 4 flights that had 4 teams in each of them (so 16 total teams) -- each of the flight winners would play each other for an automatic berth...then the two losers of those matches would play for the 3rd and final spot at sectionals...we ended up winning all 3 matches in our flight to setup a pretty epic battle against the va beach team...i was pretty beat from my 2.5 hour singles match earlier that day, and our team had 3 matches go to 3rd set tie-breakers...we lost a close one, 3-2...i played some pusher, who i would normally beat, under regular circumstances -- but he did what he had to do (let's just say i had to get an official over there) and he beat me in straights...
on sunday, we kind of lucked out a bit...we had to play the loser of the 9am match -- so we were kind of "rested" (although i wouldn't call it that after playing 4 matches in the 2 days prior) -- we took the match 4-1, and secured the final sectional spot! it would've been 5-0, but i botched an easy sitter overhead on our match point for my doubles match...oops! and we ended up losing a few points later...haha....
but yeah, i had a great time down at ODU and Hunnington Park (is that what it was called?) and even though we won 4 out of 5 matches, it was definitely a challenge...hopefully our team can continue it's winning ways....19-1 this year! hopefully we can add a few more victories!! thanks to everyone who supported us...special thanks to paulman for hooking up my racquets on such short notice...you da man!
