Any strong 4.0-5.0 players near Columbia MD area? I'm also willing to drive a bit to hit.

4-5 years ago I would have been all over this. Used to meet a few peeps from here that are not around the forums anymore as far as I know at UMBC.

Now sadly my shoulder is shot (cant serve) and my wrist prevents me from smashing forehands.
I'm also officially morbidly obese which also doesn't help.

I've been out of the mix so long I don't even know anyone down that way anymore.

Dang HW, this is not good news!

I'm still playing but my feet have so many bone spurs on them I can barely move. But, I can still serve bombs and kickers so I can still play doubles! Once a month if I get psyched and plan my meds just right I can go out and destroy in singles but then I basically can't walk the next day. Still worth it to school some young kid in the 18+ league. But on days when I don't feel good it's SAD as I lose to chumps I should be able to beat left handed but I can't get to the ball and have to congratulate their "great" play.
Getting old is great!

I might have to get surgery on my feet but
a) I'm scared and don't want to be on crutches for a year
b) I heard it might not fix it or could make it worse!
c) it'd probably come back in 5 years after surgery any way.

The Dr. looked at my x-rays and said I have 75+ year old feet! I move like it some days too! So I can't jog or even walk so exercise is tough so I might as well drink beer and eat all day???

I bought a bike ... Guess I should use it.

aw, bummer. I used to play competitively up until high school but haven't played at all in the past 8 years due to school and living in cities not conducive to tennis. I just moved back to MD and was looking to play again but I am having a difficult time finding people to hit with :(

That's basically what the doc told me after looking at my wrist MRI. his words were something like "pretty much everything that could be wrong with your wrist" Mainly I got this weird bump that's pinches a nerve and hitting forehands and hitting baseball are the only thing that hurts.

The shoulder is just toast, but you saw that yourself first hand in in our little HdG hits where my first serve aces stopped going though the fence then stopped being aces all together and I couldn't generate the spin on the kicker and it jumped right into the slugging zone. But now the mobility is gone.

I had the best serve probably in the history of 3.5 USTA. Probably should have never self rated at 3.5 but I didn't know and that's what someone told me to do.

I also have a bike I never ride :)

Same thing with me brother. in 2007 when I got home to Havre de Grace from the air force hitting partners were few and far between. I started working on Andrews AFB and would ride into NoVA after work to hit with peeps. I also joined USTA and used that to find a team. Then I was able to play everyday, bought a stringer and was off an running. Then they moved me to Harrisburg and I played USTA in Hershey.

Point of the story is that USTA leagues are a good way to get back out there and meet people and start playing again. Some folks take it too serious event at 3.5, but overall its a good option.

I signed up for TennisMoco for this fall season, looks like they branched out of TennisDC this year. First time playing any type of flex league so it should be interesting.

sorry have been away. whats going on
@SoBad was having problems becoming ambulatory due to exploring the benefits of consuming alcohol in the afternoon while visiting Charlotte NC. I ran out of ways to help him. @Carsomyr doesn’t have much to offer either so I contacted you, a longstanding acquaintance of our friend that currently is not SoGood.

Wow! Are we starting this forum back up again?
Between the latest brands of shampoo and hot dogs to catching up on latest injuries from folks; there's so much to catch up on!
As downs would say, what's been for lunch for the past couple of years?
@zapvor what's up lately? Are you still in the area? I took some courses at cabin John indoor, lightning improved a lot inside. Old ppl like me can track to the tennis ball better now!
Sap and I just had lunch together the other day. Glad to see he hasn't aged one bit!

hola amigos.. i was like what is this JTCC thang... https://www.jtcc.org/about-jtcc/team/administration/

@h_wood.. i need some pong training. you still around?
someone organize a meet. no tennis, just drinks and grub

Still in Havre de Grace man. Pong table still in the basement. Hasn't been used in years, but I have resisted the urge to get rid of it or use it for put stuff on. I have a couple sheets draped over it to keep the dust off so its ready to used whenever.

I did meet up with Dats over the summer and we hit a little bit but I am extremely bad at tennis now. But then I drank beers hung out in the pool and ate fajitas. I do all three of those at 6.0 level.

I remember a few years back some guy came in here promoting that SCW thing. He and it seemed OK, but then he posted a picture of a grill he had shipped over from Indonesia or something that cost like 10 grand.

I was busting his chops and said it looked it was made out of old pool tiles (which it did) and he got ripped off and should have spent 100 bucks on a Weber kettle.

Weber Kettles BTW are the grill of choice when you have to drive 80 miles to a tennis meet to cook brats and stuff. That's right I borrowed my dads truck to transport a grill from HdG to wherever we had a meet up. JRKs condos before they installed grills maybe? I cant remember.

Anyway if you come in here and post a picture about some ridiculously expensive thing that looks very not expensive don't be surprised when I bust chops.

Yep not sure of other clubs in area so far but Ida Lee in Leesburg has shut until April 30th, only contract time is being allowed, not even private lessons
