What happened to hanging up those rackets for good for a few years? That was shortlived...

They're still pretty much hung up. I ended up coaching my son's junior USTA tennis team over the summer so that kept me involved, and he's about to start high school and his tennis there so I've been helping there a bit as well.

I got a Chemold aluminum racquet, the same model as Rod Laver used to play with, along with a couple of other unique vintage racquets. If nothing else, a get-together would be a fine opportunity to bring these out.

Looks like you guys should try hitting outdoors or something, the weather is pretty good in Seattle ATM. I'm stuck in oregon for the summer, but I'll be back in a little over a month.

I was really hoping to be able to drive down for one of the get togethers. Maybe there's still a chance...

I'll be up in Bellevue/Seattle from Dec 25 - 29?
Anyone around then for some tennis?
Flying in on the 25th, so realistically 26-28 is more
likely.

TheShaun, I would think that just about any larger electronics/computer store would be close in price, but if you want a known store, try Fry's Electronics. About as large as they come:

Big sporting good stores are a bit more difficult to come by. If you're looking for a tennis shop, Sturtevants in Bellevue is a good bet:

Dire, hope you're having a fun time in Oregon. I'll keep an eye out for any gatherings.

heck yeah everyone should come to sturtevants for all of their tennis needs! I work there and we are one of the biggest tennis retailers in the pnw. We are getting all the new wilson racquets soon and will have all of the new nike, and wilson shoes in this week. Stop on by.

anyone ever score anything good at the nike or adidas outlets north of seattle?

Prices aren't really that great, TBH. The clearance store south of seattle (an hour further down) has some good scores. The women ALWAYS have a nice selection of high end shoes (Breathe cage IIs, BCIs, etc) for $35. The guys' versions tend to cost around ~60. They have grass (dimpled) and clay (full zig zag) versions of shoes there on occasion, too. (I see oscillates (originals) a lot).

Any good stringers in the McMinnville - Beaverton area that you would recommend? I have some natural gut I want strung in the $10-15 range. I am NOT a demanding customer.

Thanks.

Guys, I hate to say it but I'm done. I tweaked my right ankle in a match last weekend. It's a minor form of the same injury that required surgery on my left ankle, and I'm shut down, at a minimum, until the swelling goes down and I get an MRI, which will probably confirm that I've got a partial separation of my tendon sheath. I'm not sure if surgery is in my near future, but judging from how it feels, I'd say the chances are 50/50.

Anyhow, my schedule just got moved forward, and the only tennis I'll be playing until the summer of 2011 will be recreational hitting with my son and wife. It's been great getting together with you guys, and I hate to miss this one. I'll leave it up to one of the rest of you to organize it, and crunch a few forehands for me when you get together.

The very best of luck to all of you, and I'll see you guys around here again in a couple of years!

You back now and playing seniors?
