Attention Talk Tennis Members:

We have a shoe playtest for the summer! We have a limited number of Babolat Jet Mach 4s for playtesting. This playtest is open to USA Talk Tennis members only.

IMPORTANT: The Jet Mach 4 is a medium width shoe. This shoe is too narrow for a 2E and above.

Application period closed. Selected participants will be notified via email on Wednesday, July 22nd.

We have a very limited quantity of shoes to playtest. We select playtesters based on a number of factors, including message board participation and performance on past playtests.

Your review is due by Friday August 28th by 5 PM PST.

Posting a full review by the deadline is necessary to remain in good standing for future playtests. Reviews lacking sufficient effort will resort in disqualification from the playtest program.

Include the following in your review:

Tennis experience/background:
Describe your playing style (i.e. serve & volley):
Current shoe:
How many hours did you play with the shoe (minimum 10 hours)?
Normal Size:
Playtesting Size:

Comments on shoe performance (3-5 sentences per category):
-comfort:
-arch support:
-stability/support:
-ventilation:
-sole durability:
-upper & toe durability:
-traction:
-weight:

General reaction/comments on overall performance:

Thanks,
TW Staff

We will delete “request sent” emails, but encourage a lively “pre-game” discussion on the racquets.

What we look for in a playtester:

1) A user that is in good standing - no excess warnings on Talk Tennis
2) A user that is participating on the forum- we look for a participant that is actively participating/posting on the forum on a weekly basis and has at least 100 posts (although we do make exceptions)
3) A user that is participating in threads on the racquet forum and bonus points if it is in threads that are related to the racquet being playtested
4) Participation in a string playtest- we offer monthly string playtests that are much easier to get into. If you show great effort there, it will standout for the next racquet/shoe playtest
5) if you have playtested a racquet/shoe in the past- we look for good effort in the comments, turning in your review on time and actively participating in the thread throughout the playtest

We do try to spread the wealth, if you have participated in either a racquet/shoe playtest within the year, chances are you won't be selected for a racquet/shoe playtest (we do make an exception to the rule if we see a user that stands out, doesn't happen often). Each playtest contains a mix of users that haven't participated in a playtest before, users that haven't been selected in over a year and users that show exceptional effort in recent string playtests.

Would be so psyched to be part of this. I'm a newer user so that might work against me, but I'm an absolute shoe nerd - running shoes (marathoner), tennis shoes, rock climbing shoes...if I do a sport, I obsess about the shoes! I also follow basketball shoe reviews just because it fascinates me, and I like seeing how technology and design moves from sport to sport.

I have a barely used pair of Jet Mach 3s that I've been saving as I wear through some other shoes of mine. Would be fun to compare the new and previous model directly (if I were selected that is!)

Fingers crossed I make it in :)

I was a big fan of the Propulse 2, I heard good things about the Jets

Lol this parts not true :-D

Should depend on how deep you want to go down the rabbit hole of SPEED shoes.
Well I may want to hold out for a racquet playtest is the only reason I may not apply.
However, I am very much into the speed shoes and these are a perennial favorite and have always eluded me.

These are one of the shoes I’ve been eyeing. Had a pair of Babolat shoes many moons ago. I quite enjoyed them. Wonder if the durability will be as good. I’ve been bouncing around with shoes these days. 996 v6, Torneo 3s, coco delrays.

Looking forward to being selected for my first playtest!

Babolat is my favorite shoe currently, having played competitively in SFX Evo, Jet Tere and now SFX. Each with different features but overall a well-rounded shoe that gives me comfort, stability and durability. On my todo list to try next are Propulse and Jet Mach.

I just watched the TW review and now I’m intrigued. Shoes aren’t something I switch often. Many years ago I was on the playtest for the Wilson Rush Pro 3.0 and I’m still playing Wilson Rush Pro to this day. I have clay and hard court versions. When I switch, my 25 years of plantar fasciitis seems to flare up.

A cushioned speed shoe with some room in them sounds like something I might appreciate!

I agree dak95_00, I was an Asics shoe person for years and then, I was a Rush Pro play tester years ago, had it not been for the play test, I probably would not have known how well they were for me.and I use Wilson Rush Pro to this day for my indoor hitting, as the outdoor courts I hit on have a very rough surface that wears shoes down extremely fast, and I like those Wilson's so much, I want them to last as long as possible, so outside I wear the Asics various ones, usually one of there light weight ones.
The Wilson Rush Pros are hard to beat, but to be honest both the various Asics( Resolutions , Swift ff, Court ff, Gel Challengers) ,and the Rush Pro seems to fit my feet perfectly.
A sign of a great shoe is when I'm on the court I don't even think about the shoes, then I know I have the right pair. That's why I stick to what works , and had it not been for the play test, I would have never known.

I am very excited to hear about people’s thoughts on this playtest! I put in for it as well. I’ve used the Machs since the 1st generation and had purchased multiple 3s. I used to use the old propulse with Velcro in highschool too. I’m curious to see the major differences between the last model as this looks to be a major update.

I've been going through a lot of different shoes trying to find "the one."

...I have yet to do so...

so I put in for this playtest, as these have been ones that have come up in searches in the past.

My favorite thing about shoe playtests is pondering for hours over what colorway will be sent.

Yes, I got picked. Thanks to @d-quik I decided to apply.

Been using the Roger Pro 3's for about 2 months and the Wave Exceed Tour 7 for clay, so I'm all over these.
I think multiple times had the Mach 3 in my cart and never pulled the trigger for some reason.

Jokes aside, these seem more built up than the JM3 so won't be as speedy. Will be a tweener in the middle of the rp3 and wet7 you use.
I think they should still fall on the lighter side because shoes have gotten so heavy.
But a speed quotient often has intangible elements to it that go beyond weight.

They look a bit more streamlined though, more reminiscent of the Mach 2 but that could just be colorway trickery. Some of the Mach 3 colorways made the lateral flange seem very wide

I feel like the Mach 2 and 3 were pretty similar although the 3 I felt like was more likely to tear and wear down towards the upper while the 2s I had more wear in the toe box. The 3s were more comfortable to me. But both were very very light weight shoes and I have had a couple friends ask about them as a lot of tennis shoes are a bit clunkier focused on stability. I’d say the shoe shape reminds me more of the Jet Tere based on the way the shoes leads up the foot and narrowness compared to the Mach. I’ll take pictures when they come in next to each the tere Mach 2 and 3 for comparison on shape and sizing.

I also use the pro rush, but the new model and pricing is a huge turn off. I’m not spending $150+ on shoes that won’t last more than 5 weeks. I play about 10 hours a week and at 6’2 190lbs, I absolutely destroy shoes. I go through approximately 9-10 pairs a year and just can’t justify paying over $120.

I did stock up on the pro rush 4.5 sale and have 5 new pairs in closet.

That said, I’m excited to try the Jet Mach 4! I play tested the jet Tere 2 or 3 and really liked it for speed and the Michelin outsole was surprisingly durable.

Just tried mine on and they definitely run small. Hopefully I can still manage some hours on court with em, but they feel super tight.

Both. I know they stated medium width in post, but these are super narrow. I’ve never purchased a pair of wide shoes in my life, so I doubt my feet are much more than a D.

Surprising to hear because I thought the TW review mentioned the toebox being a tad roomier.

Maybe they open up after break-in, we'll see mine aren't due until Friday.
How did you see when you’re getting yours in? I don’t remember seeing an email with anything tracking. It’s my first playtest so maybe I missed it

You do not typically receive a tracking number once you confirm your participation, you should receive the shoes in 1-5 business days per their last email I received on Friday. So you should receive them today or tomorrow. Some people download external apps to track packages sent to their address, I used to have one but don’t recall the name of it.

I had a UPS email with the shipment information.
I think almost every playtest I have been on I get a UPS notification, even for strings.

I typically wear size 12 for everything, none of my tennis shoes are wide, and only some of my regular shoes are wide.
My play test shoes just arrived, and they fit perfectly, so they are true to size in my opinion. I can tell that they will need a little breaking in, so I will wear them around the house for a while, then head to the courts and give a thorough review after a good number of hours.
There is no question that they fit true to size for me.

I just received mine and I agree. These fit true to size.
