Any idea when these will ship? Pretty cool to be getting them in our hands so far in advance of the actual release date, assuming that will be the case to some degree.
I believe in the email they said towards the end up the week so I’d say Friday. Depending on what warehouse it’s coming from and your location will vary for when you receive the frame. But I have not received an email yet after confirming my playtest so I would say a couple more days (y)

So, a little trick in that, if you sign up for an account at UPS (free) using your home address, shipments will show up once registered with them. I’m seeing a tracking number for me, but it’s too soon to get any estimates as far as delivery time.

The only bummer is being on the East Coast, I’ll likely be one of the last to get mine.

Yeah I get those emails too as I have a UPS account - string tests I'll get them right away, but haven't gotten one yet for this.

TW ships from CA and GA, so they have warehouses on each coast. However, you might be right in that it's likely that these are shipping from the same location since it's a limited amount, and their primary location is probably CA.

For those selected today that chose the 98, how does the second part of your email read? My initial email on Tuesday said I was selected for the 98. But as I read down on today's email, it says the Standard. As I previously mentioned, I was a bit of a pain and signed up for the Standard initially, but then requested a change the next day to the 98. My email from today reads like this now:

Oh wow I didn't notice that...I asked for the 98, but my email also says Standard like yours...but I think it's just a standard template they're forwarding as my original email said the 98. I'd prefer the 98 still, but we shall see when it arrives!

You are correct, it is just a template. They got back to me and said they are sending me the 98!

After watching and reading some highly critical reviews of the PD98 gen 1, I'm interested to see what's different with gen 2. Hope you guys get your sticks soon so we can read some of your early impressions!

Just got confirmation…shipping from CA, via UPS Ground. Maybe, just maybe, I’ll get it by Christmas…

Kidding aside, it’s probably for the best as I’m scheduled for a cortisone shot in my shoulder on Wednesday. Should be good to go by the time it arrives.

What were their critiques of the pd 98 gen1?

Since I didn't test it myself, I won't list a bunch of negative things about the racquet, but check out Mark Sansait's review on YouTube. His critiques were echoed by a few, though his were the most critical.

It has been a while since I tried 1st gen PD98 but I remember hollow, erratic and feeling flimsy. I didn’t care for it at all. I think I played it a few times and sold it shortly after

Keep em cominggg!

Ps : 320sw strung is ideal in that type of frame.
Mine came strung, 320g no over grip no dampener, 330g with grip and dampner. Does anyone one know what strings these might be? I have a 2018? Pure Drive Plus and it came in at 322g with over grip (which would be about 317 without overgrip).

Looks to be the same thickness. When imposed the strings over each other, the 2025 mains are definitely a bit closer, and the crosses seem like the 2025 is bit more open at the top/middle? Hit got cancelled today so I get to look at it and try this weekend. My friend won a gold ball with the 2021 Pure Drive Plus so I’m interested to see what he thinks about the 2025 vs 2021

Got to try the Pure Drive Plus a few times this weekend. Got better each time as the strings loosened up. Will need a few more times out with it and for my back to get better.

Edit 1-2-2025 after a few weeks of playing

String and tension used for test: 48/42

Tennis experience/background: Played a lot as kid, quit and fell in love with the game again. Just went to nationals as 4.5

Describe your playing style (i.e. serve & volley): Serve and Volley for doubles, 1st strike for singles or offensive attempts, not a grinder

Current racquet/string setups: Yonex VCore 95 16x20 2023 and Babolat Pure Aero Plus 2023 50 mains Dunlop black widow 39 cross solinco tour bite

How many hours did you play with the racquet? About 16 hours

Comments on racquet performance for each stroke (each section should be 3-5 sentences minimum):

-Groundstrokes: I really like this racket for Forehands. It came strung so I’m not sure the tension but likely the midpoint of rec tension and I thought that was too tight and that made it slightly less stable with a smaller sweet spot to me. Felt great on forehands either way, higher tension or lower tension. A lower tension made it more forgiving to me on the backhand side. I wasn’t a huge fan of it for 1 hand backhands stock, I tried the review stock the first few times and a leather grip afterwards really improved it for me as a 1hbh player

-Serves: This racket really shines on serves. Unfortunately I had a bad back the first few weeks of the test but even with that this thing served amazing. Great kick servers, good amount of power, higher percentage of 1st serves. A lot of confidence even the 1st time I used it, serves that usually just land out found a way in with this racket. I tried 25 or more sticks this year and this was probably top 2 serving sticks I tried. It served better than Pure Aero Plus imo

-Volleys: Originally I did not like this for volleys orgiinally. With the higher tension/strings just too small a sweet spot at this tension. I also tried to play it stock for the beginning of the test to best judge it. It volleyed much better with a leather grip. I prefer a slightly heavier HL stick for volleys. It volleyed a lot better at a lower tension.

-Serve returns: Forehand returns felt great. Couldn’t find stability on 1hbh return compared to VCore 95. It needs a bit more weight for 1hbh return. Two handers might be fine with it stock. Too light for me stock to hit penetrating returns. It could use a bit of lead for returns.

Power/Control- Good amount of power especially on the serve. Maybe a bit too powerful coming from my usually stick vcore 95, similar maybe a bit power than the Pure Aero plus. I played with the Pure aero plus 2023 version for awhile and found that to have more control.

Top Spin/Slice- I can’t say it had anymore topspin than the other rackets. Compared to the Pure Aero 2023 Plus it had maybe a tiny bit more topspin. I didn’t noticed anything different for slices for me except that slice feel was a lot better with leather grip Vs stock. Stock my slices were a little floaty

Comfort- There was no discomfort. I tend to like my rackets on the lower tension side. It did come strung tighter than I usually play and I didn’t feel any discomfort even at the high tension.

Feel- I didn’t feel much different than Pure Aero 2023 plus or Solinco Blackout XTD. I have 2019 Pure Drive Plus, this felt a bit softer. For touch shots I didn’t that confident with it but I can’t fault the racket I only played 16+ hours and I played with Aero Plus and Blackout XTD for a year.

Maneuverability- Very maneuverable for a 27.5 plus racket. One of the easier 27.5 rackets I’ve used, but I’m used to them, it’s easier to swing than the solinco whiteout xtd, and probably similar to pure aero plus too.

Stability-Stability was fine when I went slightly lower tension. When I first got it the stability wasn’t as good as I thought. Not sure if it’s just me but I find higher tension with 300g racket lacking a bit stability. This changed with leather grip, I felt there was decent amount more stability with leather grip/lower tension.

General reaction/comments on overall performance: Great serving racket and good for forehands. I tried stock but this racket to me played with better feel, stability with a leather grip and slight lower tension. My 1hbh I found was off but that’s just my weaker side. A lot of the game is based on serve so if I had a lot of time to tinker with a leather grip and maybe a little lead tape this racket could definitely be a weapon. I played a lot with the 2023 Pure Aero Plus and the 2025 Pure Drive Plus definitely served better, probably liked it better on the forehand side, but for volleys, 1hbh, touch I preferred the Pure Aero Plus.

Initial thoughts. Serves really really well. Forehands feel great. One hand backhands with extended sticks and 300g usually don’t work for me and it never felt right on that side. Volleys were a bit short and lacking but I think it’s because it came strung tighter than I usually play, I’ll restring it next weekend and try again. I think a leather grip would do wonders for a bit of stability on the 1hbh and volleys

Wow, awesome playing man!

Random question - is your swing vision mirrored or both lefties?

My 98 arrived - have to say it looks awesome in person - personally I think it’s an upgrade cosmetically from the last version. Strings included are rpm blast and hurricane - never tried hurricane before, any opinions on it? I like blast well enough but have always been curious about hurricane, so not sure which to use first

I’ve played with hurricane several times, it’s a solid poly, good spin potential, lower powered, quite stiff and feels more like and older school poly, technically it has the same profile as rpm in shape but not with the silicone coating. Overall good string!

Specs on the 98, unstrung, plastic wrap removed:
301.5 static (under spec)
32.5cm balance
292 sw

Per instructions, I’m gonna start playing with this unmodified, but likely I’ll want to add some putty under the butt cap to get the static weight up and make it more headlight - swingweight is spot on perfect for me.

I feel the same way as far as balance goes. I want to do most of play sessions for the review stock and for the last session I have scheduled before the review I’ll put blue tac in the handle to my preferred balance to see how it plays.

Arrived today! Came with excel 17 and rpm blast 17. Hopeful to get it strung up with the RPM and get on court tomorrow. Came in at 299g, 31.5 balance, 281 SW on my Briffidi SW1. I’ll try it stock and probably add ~3g at 12 with solinco tour bite 17 after the initial test drive

Can you tell me the beam widths?

So cool
So effortless
No need to use the whole body, just the arm, this racket plays by itself
