Tennis Warehouse Playtest: Babolat Pure Drive PLAY

That would make sense. I forgot that there's no way to differentiate between a forehand ground stroke and a forehand volley.

I do wish there were though. In my doubles matches, it would be nice to see a volley number. It's surely a different stroke than a forehand.

We're working on it.

Question/Comment:

In the Community view - it seems like you can only search by name. Is there anything in the works to search by location. It seems pointless right now. And is there anyway to see everyone, rather than the top 20 and then the few around your position?

Also, What does the My Category mean in the community rankings?

any planned updates for firmware or such?

my category = same gender and similar age

updates = yes, always making small tweaks (big ones take much longer), just plug into computer and sync

as community grows, you will have more friends to follow. Good point on location, I will send to the team

ranking on app shows the people around (above and below), ranking on website shows people around you as as well as top 20

I keep hoping the software/firmware will get updated and start being more accurate, but they seem quite slow on that end. Same with the website - features needed like better sorting and forums aren't added, so they aren't really adding anything to the product.

I like the racquet, but currently back to using my Prince Tours because they are more arm friendly.

Babolat Play data supports what I am seeing on the court

I have gone back to my weighted up Head Speed MP 16x19s.

I wonder if others have grown weary of the gimmick of shot feedback?

i haven't been using the Play features, but i've been using the PD more recently since i discovered how much better it performs w/ full poly @ 40#s. with this setup, the stick is just amazingly good.

it's funny, but ChadW's post prompted me to start using the Play app again. recently, i've been working w/ a coach to improve some things. after he tweaked a few things, i decided to use the Play app to quantify how much my backhand has improved. turns out, according to the Play app measurements, i am now hitting my BH w/ more power and spin. i knew my 1hbh was much improved because i was hitting long before and after i implemented my coach's instructions, i stopped hitting long so i had to be hitting with more spin to bring the ball down sooner. it's nice to see the data corroborate what i'm experiencing on the court. i also feel i'm hitting much cleaner in all aspects of my game and the Impact Locator data corroborates this as well because i see an increase in the % of shots in the middle of the racquet.

Still logging 6 hours per week with my racquet but my ranking is now in the 300s... So, yes there are definitely a lot more people using the play racquet today!

It's not for everyone. As with any new technology, some like it and continue to use, some don't.

From the back end data: of the 3,000+ account we have, Babolat Play users are currently recording 1500 practices a day and 250 matches a day.[/QUOTE]

I can't say that I know enough about the PLAY system during this post, but I wish there was a way to use it with any frame that has a trapdoor. I personally never enjoyed the Pure Drive much, but would be all over a standalone system that could be installed in existing racquets.

Especially with the community aspect; I don't have a large circle to play with these days, and it would be nice to discover more partners in the area in this way.

My 11 yo daughter hits with a PPD and the data has been very useful. I felt she shanked a lot of balls but she actually hits with a 90 % technique score. Sometimes I forget how many 1000s of balls she hits and the shanks are actually a very low percentage. ie 5 shanks per outing but we hit 1300-1500 balls in a typical outing.

Thus, we're still finding the data very useful in monitoring her progress.

Got my Pure Drive Play three days ago. Instantly addicted! :)

Too bad it can't discriminate volleys from regular shots, but that may be improved in the future (it's just a matter of better raw data analysis from the sensors).

It definitely plays the same as regular Pure Drive (I could not detect any difference).

After preliminary hitting, I was positively surprised and proud when I discovered that I hit ~62% of my shots in the center of string bed. Maybe it was due to the fact I was aware that the racquet will give me that information so I was focused more, who knows.

However, I was shocked when I realized that only 14% of my 80+ supposedly "topspin" backhands were registered as topspins! While the racquet rates my average backhand power even higher than forehand (49% vs 47%), for some reason majority of my forehands were qualified as topspin, while backhands were considered mostly flattish, although I could clearly see balls rotating and dipping down due to topspin. Obviously, I will have to work on my OHBH... :)

Definitely a great diagnosis and self-improvement tool, but the price is really too high at the moment (I got used one for a good price, though).

With all the talk about the 2015 versions of the Pure Drive, I am wondering if there will be also an update to the Play ? Does the Play follow a similiar cycle?

Thanks in advance!

Cheers, lloydhero

My speculation is yes. The APD version was supposed to be released in the summer, I wonder how close Babolat is to a release date.

I agree - the APD version is safe to come.

I am very interested if the Pure Drive Play will get an update - same as the non-Play enabled Pure Drives will get?

In your account settings you can choose to receive or not receive emails from us. Maybe that is the problem?

So, my racquet is no longer transferring the downloaded sessions to the website account.

I played a 2 hour match today, got home, plugged it in, clicked "download sessions", logged into the website.

Now i'm in the site and I click "analyze" and it just has my sessions from a couple of days ago. Is there anything further in the site I have to do? It's weird that it's just no longer capturing the data.

The racquet was fully charged too prior to the match.

This happened to me today with my AeroDrive Play

I'm a happy new APD Play user. I love the feedback that the Play technology provides, and I was actually surprised with how consistent my numbers are from match to match.

I was disappointed to find, though, that Nadal is the only pro that I can see on the Community tab, and the only stat that I can see of his is number of shots (56280). When I choose to "compare" with him, his Technique, Endurance and Power scores are all empty. Also there is no way to see stats from any of his matches.

From reading reviews on the racket before I bought it, it mentioned that Tsonga, Radwanska and Wozniacki would be there as well, but they weren't. I was keen to compare my stats to Wozniacki and prove she's a pusher!

Although I would have bought the racket anyway, I was hoping that I could compare all my stats with Nadal (forehand power/spin etc), and I thought that I would be able to see his stats for matches that I was watching. ie I watch a match, and then I can look at his stats for it (plus compare it to my own stats).

Is this a problem with my account setup somehow that I can't see the pro's stats, or isn't this information being shared?

Babolat Official, can you please comment??

That is an excellent point. I can't really compare my stats to anyone elses, only he pulse.

I thought the whole comparison with the community was supposed to be a selling point for the Play?

BTW I uninstalled and reinstalled my software on the iPhone 4S. Seemed to fix the issue. Babolat in Canada (Gabby) was extremely responsive however and I was impressed with them

Exactly, it's being marketed as being part of the Play community with the Babolat pros included.

That was the part of the whole thing that I was most looking forward to... Comparing my stats to the pros.

I had all these ideas of just going on to the practice court and smashing some serves down to see if I could even get up to their level of power, then work on the accuracy later. I think it would be very motivating to have target stat numbers to try to achieve.

As it is, the whole community thing seems totally pointless for me as I don't know anybody else with a Play racket, and none of the pro data is in there at all.

There's no point at all in even having a "Pro" tab in Community IMO. Only Nadal's in there, and even just his pulse scores are empty!

I'm very surprised that this wasn't mentioned in the reviews, as I did a lot of research before buying.

Hi JDMasFCK,

I had something similar as well.

I installed the Babolat Play Android Version. After turning on my bluetooth and initiate the pairing process, the app stopped and the screen turned black.

The message displayed was "Unfortunately, Babolat Play has stopped".

I had uninstalled the Beta Version downloaded from Test Flight prior to installing from Google Play.

Anyone had similar issue or has any suggestions to remedy?

Thank you.
Sorry to resurrect this. I have been having this problem with my Pure Drive Play. Waiting to hear back from Babolat support. Anyone else experience this on their Android, and if so, how did you resolve? @Babolat Official maybe you are familiar with this? This Pure Drive Play is the previous version.

Heard back from Babolat support and they said that they just updated the app a week ago (right before I got my racquet) and it is causing some issues for people. Sigh. Will see what happens...
