I have not used a speed shoe in a while. I would love to try these. Low to the ground, light, booty for great lock/support. For a KSwiss shoe they look great. Also a fair price point.
I was thinking the same thing. This is the best looking KSwiss shoe I have ever seen. They look like they would compare to a asics gel res in looks and feel.

Looks more like a court FF competitor to me, especially with the booty construction and silhouette. I’m currently enjoying the ultrashot 3s, but worry about toe durability on the speedtracs.

Interested to see how these would perform as a match day shoe.

I'm most curious about the fit as Kswiss typically have a wider toebox which has caused me to shy away.
For a speed shoe, I'd think they might be a little more medium to narrow

The Speedtrac playtest shoe just arrived. Very light and comfortable. Length is true to size. My usual size fits perfectly. Doesn't feel like there will be any break in period required at all. I can't detect any hot spots applying pressure to any of the toes. The forefoot fit isn't as wide as the other KSwiss offerings such as the Ultra Shot 3, Hypercourt Express 2, original Big Shot, Big Shot Lites or the adidas SoleCourt Boost but it's more roomy than the Nike GP Turbos, Court Ballistec 3.3, adidas Barricade 7 & 8s. Heel cup is neither too wide or too narrow. My 3/4 length hard orthotic fits just fine. Shoes with a narrow heel cup can sometimes prevent the orthotic from seating properly. I had some discomfort with the CB 3.3s due to the narrow width preventing good level seating of the orthotic. I'll have a chance to wear them for 7 hours on the court tomorrow.

This is the colorway I received.

Still jealous of those selected, was looking forward to comparing to my regular hardcourt shoe, the Ubersonic 2. (Always a bridesmaid*)
Since those are scarce, I am looking forward to the reviews for these.

*joking, I am very grateful for the playtests I have been selected for previously

Dogger what is your go to shoe at the moment?

Dogger what is your go to shoe at the moment?
Too many different shoes in the closet at the moment. Wilson Rush Pro 3.0s, Barricades, GP turbos, hypercourt expresses, ubersonic 4, and Lacoste AG LT21 Ultras…I spend alot of time on the court so I’m currently rotating between a pair of barricades, SoleCourt boosts and GP turbos. Don’t have a “go to” shoe so to speak.

I switched from Gel Res 8s to Barricades. Wish I had done it sooner. For some reason I thought I needed the tank shoes but the Barricade is so much more responsive.
I’m on this playtest too so I’m stoked to try a fast feeling shoe

The latest Barricade no longer feels like a super heavy duty durability shoe like the old versions used to be. But then again, they aren’t that durable anymore either. Lol.

Got mine in this morning. Same colorway as @mad dog1...wish it was the Corridor off-white tone, but who am I to complain? They're a little more snug in the toebox compared to the Resolution 9 and Court FF3 I've been wearing lately. A little low-volume on the height up there. Seems like it will break in, though, and move with my foot. It doesn't hug my skinny ankle as much as I want, but I'll see how they perform on court later today!

First impression:
Light, soft, comfortable. Forefoot lacing looks heavily influenced by Vapor 9.
Slimmer looking shoe than my Barricade. Rides higher off the ground with more cushion but still good court feel.
I’m not sore after 3 consecutive days playing.
Foot is not locked down as snug as barricade. Overall feels like a less serious, less protective shoe.

First impressions here. Used them in the gym to break them in and then took them to a hitting session.

Pros:
+ Comfortable
+ Light and bouncy
+ Aerodynamic: quick moving forward…not as good side to side.

Cons:
– lacking lateral stability for me: not terrible but I’m used to more feedback and catch from my shoes.
– they ran a little hot for me. I didn’t notice until I took them off, but it was 65 here yesterday. They might be a sweaty mess in mid-summer.

Looking forward to more time with these. The traction is responsive, and the cushioning gives some extra bounce with excellent protection. Lots of cushion for its weight. Considerably more than my Vapor Pro 1s. I could definitely coach in these or use them in the gym at least. I went back to my Court Ff3s after 30 minutes because I felt lateral stability and launch was lacking. I will spend more time with them though!

What I bolded are the exact same impressions I've had so far.

First impressions after a 2 hour clinic - no break in for me- super light and comfy- the ladies run short so I do go up 1/2 size and fits almost perfect - I do have to cinch the shoelaces more than normal but overall great first impressions!

Hello TW, when is the shoe review due? Overall very grateful to be a part of this!

Tennis experience/background: NTRP 4.0 C; spend a lot of time on the court coaching

Describe your playing style (i.e. serve & volley): All court, aggressive baseliner looking to draw the short ball to come in to attack/volley

Current shoe: I go through outersoles in one to two months so I always have 2 or 3 pairs of shoes in the rotation that I alternate between. In the current rotation at the moment are:

  • Adidas Barricade
  • Adidas SoleCourt Boost
  • Nike GP Turbo
New shoes waiting to be put into service

  • Nike GP Turbo
  • Adidas Barricade
  • Adidas Ubersonic 4
  • KSwiss Hypercourt Express 2
  • Wilson Rush Pro 3.0
  • Lacoste AG-LT21 Ultra
How many hours did you play with the shoe? 20

Normal Size: 9.5

Playtesting Size: 9.5

Comments on shoe performance (3-5 sentences per category):

-comfort/fit:
3/5 Cushioning is very good especially for a lightweight shoe so they’re comfortable on impact. Fit is medium all the way through the shoe from heel cup to toe box. I would have liked a slightly wider toe box at the tip (more on this below). The uppers are quite soft and pliable with no hard plastics digging into any part of the foot so they feel comfortable for walking, however, when moving aggressively on the court, the upper doesn’t hug, flex and move with the foot which surprised me given the bootie construction. My heel almost came out of the shoe a few times when attempting to change directions abruptly. Also, I experienced some rubbing and pressure on the medial side of my big toes. The irritation is worse on the right foot. After spending 5 hours coaching in them in one day, the right toe was sore. The K-Swiss Hypercourt Express offers a wider fit in the toebox The adidas Barricades offer a similar width toebox, but the shape around the top fits my toes better. So far after 20 hours, the midsole has still retained all of the new cushioning properties. The midsole does not feel compressed and worn down.

-arch support: N/A I use a ¾ length hard orthotic so arch support was fine. The heel cup was wide enough to accommodate the orthotic and allow it to seat properly. I have had shoes with narrow heel cups where the orthotic would not sit completely flat.

-stability/support: 3/5 With the Speedtrac being a lighter weight speed shoe, I was not expecting great stability and support. If you’re a really, aggressive mover or a bigger, heavier player, you may need more upper support. Outersole stability was very good. I never felt my foot coming close to rolling over, but since the uppers did not hug and move with my feet, I also never felt that locked in support when changing directions or making hard cuts.

-ventilation: 3/5 Ventilation for the Speedtrac was ok. It was on the warm side for me in the 50-80 degree temperature. I was expecting a cooler shoe given the light weight.

-sole durability: 5/5 Excellent! This is where I have been pleasantly surprised. After 20 hours of play, the outersoles are showing far less signs of wear than my adidas Barricades or SoleCourt Boosts at the same stage! The Barricades and SCBs were already beginning to bald on the lateral edges of both shoes while the medial side of the right shoe were already beginning to bald as well after 20 hours of wear. The only seem to be 10-15% worn so far.

-toe durability: 5/5 Excellent! Toe durability under and in front of the big toe has also been excellent. I’m seeing far less wear than expected given the number of hours I’ve put on these outersoles.

-traction: 5/5 Traction has been great. I have not experience any issues slipping on the court.

-weight: 5/5 This is a very light and fast feeling shoe.

General reaction/comments on overall performance:
3.5/5 The K-Swiss Speedtrac is a handsomely designed shoe. The highlights of this shoe are the traction, sole durability and light weight. They feel light and allow you to move fast. It was the fit and support of the upper that let the shoe down. I would love to see K-Swiss improve the fit and support and take a potential hit to weight while retaining the outersole durability and traction.

Tennis experience/background: Played in college. Was ranked for part of a season. Now play 5.0 when I play formally which is not often. I do coach ~8 hours a week.

Describe your playing style (i.e. serve & volley): Aggressive Baseliner. I'm most content slapping balls from the back of the court and looking to come forward off of a weaker ball. I don't mind trying my best Djokovic impression sliding out of the corners on defense either.

Current shoe: Asics Gel Resolution 9 and Court FF3 but have used Vapor Pros, Court FF2, Solution Speed FF, Barricades, Vapor Cage 4, GP Turbo, and others in the past 18 months or so.

How many hours did you play with the shoe? ~20

Playtesting Size: 9.5

Comments on shoe performance (3-5 sentences per category):
-comfort:
4.5/5 -- I was expecting these to be comfortable just because that seems to be the vibe for KSwiss, and I was correct. They're very well cushioned for the weight - much better better than Vapor Pros and Ubersonics for me. The uppers are soft and pliable, so much it might be a detriment...but more on that later. I had less achey feet coaching for 3-4 hours in these than I do with my Resolution 9s, so this Surge midsole definitely delivers on its promises. Whether it holds up over time remains to be seen. I did find the toebox small at first, but the upper is so flexible it doesn't matter much for me.

-arch support: 2/5 -- The arch in these is not placed well for my foot. I may be biased because the Gel Resolution 9 arch and last seem tailor made for my foot shape, though. I did not feel like my arch was cradled well in these, and though they have a pretty beefy shank and light weight, they felt like it was all me getting off the ground with no snap or help from the shoe. I didn't have pain or fatigue, but I believe once these start to lose some resiliency in the foam I will have to toss an OTC orthotic in or bear the consequences.

-stability/support: 2/5 -- I was left wanting here. They're...just OK. On my first wear, I really felt myself slipping over the sides of the shoe. I thought the uppers just needed some break-in to mold to my foot. On subsequent wears, I experienced the same thing. Though the traction is quite grippy, I was quite hesitant to cut hard out of the corners or slide for fear of slipping out of the shoe or spilling over the midsole. The uppers seem to be too soft and supple and stretch more than they should to support my foot. I have a narrow-ish foot and did use some heel lock lacing with slight improvement, but the bootie construction combined with the soft overlays still led to some insecurity. Maybe a higher volume foot would do better than my narrow-side-of-medium feet and skinny ankles. I've had other bootie-type shoes like the Vapor Knit, Vapor Pro, Ubersonic 2/4, and Head Sprint Pro SFs do quite well for me. With those, the uppers provided plenty of support as they were more rigid and had a limit to how much the knits stretched...or they were reinforced with a fit frame like Vapors. Sadly, that was not my experience with the Speedtrac.

-ventilation: 3/5 -- for the light weight and amount of mesh on the shoe, I expected better. My feet were pretty sweaty after use, and temps never reached above 75 degrees during my playtesting. I didn't notice this while they were on, and they certainly weren't bad. I'd be cautious using these in hotter weather, as I have a tendency to get some blisters when it's really hot and the shoe holds onto moisture, even in well ventilated shoes like Ubersonic 2s or Vapors.

-sole durability: 4/5 -- for the weight class, these are 5/5. Slight balding after the time I've used them on court. All other shoes in this weight class that I've used fall short of the Speedtrac here. For me, it's still not as durable as a Resolution, Vapor Cage 4, or the like, but it's top class for lightweight shoes.

-toe durability: 5/5 -- no issues here. The toe bumper is robust and comes up high without getting in the way. I'm not a huge test for this anymore since I switched from a pinpoint to platform stance on serve, but the toes are basically spotless. Just some light scuffing from dragging my back foot on backhand slices from the corner.

-traction: 4.5/5 -- I wish these had a little more give to slide when I want, but apart from that, the traction is brilliant if I assess it in isolation. When I look at the shoe as a whole, the traction almost gets in the way. The sole sticks when I want it to stick...so they got that right. But, the uppers do not hold my foot well enough when I'm cutting hard. So, the shoe stops, but my foot keeps going. Am I going to roll an ankle or have my foot stick but jam my hip/low back? It sure feels like it.

-weight: 5/5 -- super light. Super fast. They're great if I'm sprinting forward. They don't quite get up off the ground quickly, but once you're going they go fast. It feels more like a running shoe than a traditional tennis shoe on my foot which is great for coaching and some casual hitting.

General reaction/comments on overall performance: 2.5/5 -- I was really disappointed with the Speedtrac. KSwiss definitely got some things right here: weight, traction, aesthetics, durability, comfort. Yes, my average rating between the categories is 3.75/5; however, the detriments weigh more heavily for me than the positives. For me, the uppers are much too soft and flexible to consider this as an option for anything more than coaching or casual hitting. Playing in these at pace will inevitably lead to me either slipping out of the corner or sticking when I should slide, torquing or jamming my hip and low back where I already have a chronic injury. I'm curious to see how this shoe evolves, though. An addition of a plastic frame around the lateral edge of the midsole/upper junction (Ultrashot 3) or a lateral clip/claw (Hypercourts) could make a world of difference here while keeping comfort and speed at a premium.

If you're a social player who wants a cool looking shoe, a recreational doubles player who doesn't have to cut out of the corners that often, a serve and volleyer, or a coach wanting something light and comfortable? This could be a good option for you. I think if I had a wider, meatier ankle I would have gotten more security out of the uppers and liked these more. I still think support would have been a little wanting, but they'd probably be better. There's definitely potential for the Speedtrac to be a wonderful speed-focused shoe with some changes. I'm curious if KSwiss will improve these in coming years.

Edit: I'm curious what Mark from @TW Staff has to say about these. He did the video review solo and seemed to like them more than me. Very possible these were a good fit for his foot and thus these issues I experienced were not present for him.
