I like the COLOR (teal) of the ECO and the fact that it is a shaped poly. It definitely doesn't hurt that it is made from 100% recycled material either!

I like shaped and rough string generally and looking forward to see how they compare to each other and see how the rough stacks up to other roughs like Solinco's Diamond Rough!

Also shout out to @1HBHfanatic since I reposted your rough pic! Thanks!

Always excited to try out new strings, especially free ones! Hehe. Throwing my hat into the ring! Thank you!

I haven't had the chance to try either of these Luxilon offerings - so I am coming at this as a clean slate.
Do any of you have any suggestions as to stringing tension - string at my standard tension or a couple lbs. up or down ?

From what I can see they ought to be something that suits me; ECO Power is shaped and ECO Rough also should generate additional spin. IME rough strings tend to play a touch softer too.

I'm excited too since I haven't tried the Eco Power yet, and the Rough is one that intrigues me for sure. From what I've seen regarding both of them, they should be somewhat softer than regular ALU Power, and I'm planning to string them at my regular reference tension (I typically use softer polys anyways).

I wish in the near future, European members, could somehow get involved in future playtests, too. I definitely understand why it's always easier to include USA members only for the time being.

I couldn't find anything on ECO Rough in the store but saw some favorable reviews on Power. I'm assuming both strings are 17G?

Eco Power performs at a high level for me for the first 2 hours. It drops down to perform at a good level for another 2 hours. At that point, being halfway notched, it becomes very much of a trampoline so definitely time to cut out. This is better than Alu Power silver which is only good for 2 hours or Alu Power blue which is only good for 60 mins.

If Luxilon could make Eco Power more durable and with longer playability, I would consider using it.

You mean because they are US based and it costs them a few bucks to ship strings within the US and much more for them to ship them to Europe? You making this same complaint in every playtest thread isn't going to change things. Not to mention you have TWE which has much better prices on strings than TW. I would gladly trade a few playtests for the overall lower string prices in Europe.

What's your normal string of choice and what do you string at? I found the eco power to lose tension fast and became a rocket launch. It's not the softest string but it's soft enough that I'd go up 3-4 pounds to offset the tension loss if I were to do it again

I am trying to remember ALU Power vs ALU Power Rough. Not sure whether the similarity in names (replace ALU with ECO) means similarity in properties/comparison.

I hope I get picked for this one; I've always wanted to try a Luxilon string setup. I really enjoyed doing the last playtest with the Head Lynx Tour, Lynx Spin 2 and Head Hawk.

Strung eco power in my regular racquet at my regular tension and it performed great…for the first 4 hours.

Luxilon ECO Power ECO Rough !! Thanks Luxilon and TW !
Nice looking in person. The teal seems like it would be a good match for the new Yonex Percept !
The ECO Power feelsl slick maybe a little stiff to the touch and the shape (hexagonal) is not very pronounced. You could easily think its round so the shape must be very subtle.

ECO Rough feels thinner, softer and you can definitely feel the dimpled surface.
Both are 1.25 mm

Michelle will be doing a podcast with Wilson's string guru about these strings. Feel free to post any questions you'd like her to ask. No need to wait until posting your full review.

Jon
Love Michelle's recent Podcasts with the Tennis company excs. You can learn a lot by the things they say and don't say and she has been able share some insider insight into products.

They question I would like to ask is What tension should poly really be strung at is designed to be strung at? Recently, people like Mannarino are breaking past notions of what a proper tension is. What does the lab say are the pros and cons of tension low- med - high?

I'm so excited. I was picked. Saving this space for the review.
I normally use Kirschbaum black shark or ProLineII at 52 lbs on my Prince ATS Tour 98.

ECO POWER
I strung it in my Prince ATS Tour 98 racket(which is another play test I participated in) at 52 lbs mains and crosses with my klippermate stringer. I have played for about 7 hours of competitive doubles.

Power/Control
This string seems a bit more powerful than the poly strings I normally use. There is a nice pocketing of the ball and more of my swing speed seems to go onto the ball.
Reflex shots have enough oomph to not be sitters for the other player. Volleys come off the racket really nicely and skid off the court more than my usual set up. Serves are not more or less powerful though. Overheads are about the same as well.

Feel (Stiff? Mushy? Muted? Crisp? Comfortable? Connected?)
I really, really liked the feel of this string. It doesn't feel muted or stiff at all. It pockets the ball really nicely when I hit. I could hit drop shots well and slices well.
It felt so good that I didn't need to use a vibration damper. Hitting the sweet spot feels great but even not hitting the sweet spot exactly didn't result in pain.

Spin
I didn't notice a huge difference between this string and my usual set up. If the technique was correct, I was rewarded with the appropriate spin. Spin serves and slices were excellent and easy to control. Kick serves had the appropriate kick when the technique was correct.

Playability Duration
Held up great for the 6 hours that I have used them in this racket. I have not felt the playability go off yet but I don't hit the ball extremely hard. After 7 hours, I don't feel a huge drop off in playability.

Tension Recommendations (Would you string it differently next time. Explain)
52 lb worked well for me.

List any additional thoughts:
This is an excellent string which I would use. To me this has the feel of a soft string but the spin and control of a polyester. I could happily use this string if I didn't also have the ECO Rough to compare. Between the two, my choice is ECO Rough. But, I still think this string in the main and ECO Rough on the crosses would make a really, really great hybrid.

BONUS
List any questions you have for Wilson's string developer about these two strings (optional)

What item(or items) is the string recycled from(just curious).

ECO ROUGH:
Strung my Babolat Pure Drive FST at 50lb. Felt a lot stiffer than the ECO Power so I reduced tension a bit. Normally, I string this racket with Kirschbaum Black Shark or Prince XR Tour 16(the silver one).
Played about 8 hours doubles.
Power/Control:
Less power than the ECO Tour and it felt stiffer. This allowed me to swing with confidence. About par with black shark and a bit less than Prince XR tour. On the other hand, the ball never flew on me. The power that was there was very controllable. Control is really good. To me it felt more precise than Eco Power and the Prince XR tour.

Feel:
The best feeling string out of all the polys that I have used is the ECO Power and this string came right after I used that one. It feels like what it is: a stiff-type poly. It never felt harsh or painful in my shoulder or arm. On the ECO Power, I could feel the ball being pocketed, on this string I felt the ball was being compressed.
I can add that after about 3 hours of play, the string became less stiff and I felt a little pocketing. Still not as good feeling as ECO-Power but not harsh at all. After about 4 hours of play, it is pocketing the ball more and after about 5 hours, it feels a lot less stiff than it did when I strung it up.

Spin:
This is where ECO Rough shined for me. Excellent spin provided technique was there. I could hit really nice topspin forehands and backhands. I don't use slice a lot but it worked really well for that. I'm a lefty and hitting the slice wide serve is a good tactic and I was really able to spin the ball off the court after it landed on those serves. Spin is still holding up well at 8 hours.

Playability Duration:
Was great during the entire time that I played. I have about 8 hours on this string. It has softened a little bit but has not become mushy or unplayable. The spin is still about the same.

Tension Recommendation:
50lb on a 100 sq in 16 x 19 racket seemed right.

Additional thoughts:
ECO Power mains and ECO Rough crosses would make a great poly/poly hybrid string.

After playing with both about 7 hours on the power and 8 hours on the rough, I think they are great strings that I would use as a hybrid above. I'd get the best of both worlds with the feel of the eco power and the spin of the Eco rough. If I could only pick one though, I would pick the rough.

Thank You TW for letting me take part in this test.

Super stoked to be picked for this playtest. Recently returned to WIlson and Luxilon products. Currently demoing a Shift 99 300 with Element. Super nice response from the string bed. Can’t wait to try ECO Power and ECO Rough! Thank you TW and Luxilon.

My questions would be - 1) from Luxilon/Wilson's perspective, what is the playability difference between these strings and their ALU counterparts (ie ALU Power and ALU Power Rough)? 2) From Wilson's perspective, balls are the biggest environmental issue we have in tennis w/r to sustainability, as strings once they're collapsed are tiny compared to tennis balls which last usually no longer than 2-3 hitting sessions. What is Wilson's plan from a broader sustainability POV across their lines, in particular balls as that's where there seems to be the most waste and opportunity.

Speaking of what they say and don't say in these interviews, Troy and Michelle mentioned a new solinco string that is yet to be released but sounds imminent. Anyone have an idea what they're talking about?

Wow they got these strings out fast! Strung up my SG 10 with the rough at 48 lb. Seems like a soft string. When I cut the bands of the set they didn't spring out like a lot of polys do, almost a multi feel. Very easy to string with seems like the texture in the string stretch out under tension and aren't as visible. . Feels great bouncing the ball on them, playing tomorrow morning.

One thing I didn't mention, but I applaud Luxilon for is the reduced packaging. I don't like to waste things and redundant and over the top packaging is great example of waste. I know the Luxilon ECO brand touts that they are from 100% recycled materials and all , but I like the fact that they are reducing their waste even more than using recycled materials. Let's face it we buy strings based on performance! It would be nice if they can do BOTH - perform great and be more ecologically friendly.

I like your comments on this packaging; it would be nice to have Michelle ask Wilson about this very eco friendly packaging. From what I can see this cardboard / paper packaging will be perfect to simply compost. It's very consistent with their goal as you noted in your post.

I have been using my pair of Pure Strike 98s 16x19 and may do so again, but I am considering stringing up my Wilson Blade 104s for this one.
I'll keep everyone posted.
As for tension I have been interested in trying some low tensions, in the 30s, but will stick with something close to my standard for this playtest.
Yeah I'd stick with normal tension.
I used ecopower in my modded Ultra Pro 16M at 50lbs and it wasn't bad.
Definitely will go lower this time though.
My standard for my UPs now is 48 which is working well for most strings.

I’m in. First tested set of Eco power snapped very quickly but I have friends who have had great things to say and did not experience the poor durability. Hoping my experience is better this time and I got a faulty, early production set. Have not hit the rough yet but have heard good things. Should be a fun test!

Very impressive outing with Eco Rough. Played 4 sets doubles felt right at home immediately. It made me think of a softer ALU power. Excellent on power for serves and groundstrokes Excellent on control. Solid on spin. Very comfortable easy on arm no jarring on less than perfect contact shots. Nice cupping of ball large sweetspot. The only weakness was it didn't have a much feel on touch shots as my Natural Gut hybrids but nothing is as good as gut for those. Luxilon has done a remarkable job on this as a string not even counting on it being 100% recycled. Now lets see how long the wonderfulness lasts.

I'm in. Ok thanks for sending the string so quickly; I'm stringing up this weekend. First impressions ... like judging a good rum; you have to take into consideration the artful nature of the bottle; i.e. the packaging. The packaging on these strings is really excellent and in line with their "eco friendly" marketing. It's 100% compostable. It's simple cardboard and just enough cardboard and what's really nice is that you can examine the string with this type of packaging. You can feel the texture on the "rough" version; and you can feel the ever so subtle shaping on the "power" version. In both cases you can admire the nice colors. Check out the photos other testers have posted and you'll see this for yourself. Looking forward to getting these strings in very soon! I will be putting them into closely matched ... old school ... Dunlop 300g's ! Old meets new ... this is going to be fun!

Strung the Luxilon ECO Rough up in my Pure Strike 98 16x19. I have been using these to test string so I stuck with the same racquet. Lately, been using 45/47 as my reference tension so I used that again.
The first thing I noticed was that this string was well behaved-very compliant- almost like a multi in how easy it was to string. I agree you can feel the "rough" texture and I am sure this contributes to its softness and lack of coil memory. It is not coated to be rough, but has dimples from material being removed. I am hoping this type of spin enhancement is more durable than sharp shaped strings which lose spin quickly after a few hours.
Easy to string and tie-off, so I appreciated that.

I didn't get to play too long, (2 hrs) but so far so good. I couple of things I noticed right off was the power and nice bite this string provided. I don't like strings that make my racket feel like a board, so I enjoyed relatively soft string bed and lively feel ECO Rough provides. I enjoyed the nice solid, controlled and consistent response as well. Groundstrokes and volleys were a good balance of pop and control. So far pretty good overall, but I'll know better when I practice / drill with this and get more repetitions than I could playing a few sets. Last nights hit was right off the stringer, so will be interested to see how they play after the strings settle.

Really encouraging to see how universal the praise for the quality of the product is, considering what it is trying to be. What I was hoping to see for the Triniti, which I personally think is as playable as any regular ball, but unfortunately seems intolerable for a certain segment of the playing population.

My one experience with Triniti balls was not pleasant. They felt like rocks. They were impressive at keeping their bounce though.

They feel like rocks for a bit but soften as they're broken in. Maybe I notice this issue less than other people because I use flexy square beam frames with cushy mid tension syn gut?

I definitely didn't feel like they softened up. We played with same set of balls for several sessions until there was no felt left. They looked like racquetballs after we finally gave up on them. Interestingly, they still had a ton of bounce left.

I wonder if Luxilon shares the same challenges that Dennis Fabian from Head expressed in TW's Podcast regarding using recycled materials. For example, having enough source material to ensure, essentially, the same chemical properties to achieve same behavior and performance.

I can't imagine it's too hard if they give initiative to the stringers at tournaments. So it's 90% #1 plastic bottles so your sodas, water bottles and take out containerd take care of that easily. The other 10% would be recycled alu power

Got in another 3 hr. with the rough and if anything I liked it better today. It may be softening up a bit, perhaps a bit more response off the stringbed.
I could just be getting more used to the Rough but I like it very much.
6 hrs. total time in still excellent feel.

It's gonna be a few more days before I can get this test moving forward ... it's gonna be 107 tomorrow; which translates to 130 (feels like 150) on the courts and ... Sunday (yesterday 103); today cooling to 97 (Mon); Tues - Wed -Thurs = 107, 106, 102 then cooling to 95 Friday / Sat. 94.

THTT = too hot to test ...

Edit -- just got a text from a friend who wants to play some doubles tomorrow on the "shady court" ... told him ... 107 degrees; I'm in! Thankfully our club is offering free beer afterwards ... ok so now we only need to find two more nutcases to take up this challenge. Well that didn't take long ...

Ok game on! Let's get ready to rumble, test, or melt or crumble; 107 degree THTT ... going with the rough first off ... maybe 53 to 55 lbs.

If anyone else has tried both strings (I still need to give them both more play-time (around 4 hours each already)), but does anyone else have like a clear favorite? Obviously, it's all preference, but Power is meshing 100x better for me than Rough, I'll go into more detail in an official review and/or if this changes, but having a Rougher time with Rough right now
